On behalf of Bar M Simmentals and LA Ranch I would like to welcome you to the second annual Country Roots Bull sale. I can’t believe it’s already been a year since (with a shaking hand) I wrote the introduction to our first ever sale. I tell you those were some stressful weeks leading up to that sale. Little did I know I had nothing to worry about. Our loyal customers truly are the best customers we could ever ask for. The support we had last year for our first sale is something we will never forget and are truly grateful for. It is because of our great customers and our true passion for the breed that we continue to strive to bring you the very best product possible. We literally spend 365 days a year thinking about cows, planing matings, sourcing new genetics, and researching pedigrees it truly never stops but I love it.

We are sure proud of this set of bulls we have put together once again being our biggest and best set of bulls to date. As always our bulls do not see any creep feed through out the summer. The weaning weights you see are just from moms milk and the little bit of grass we had this summer due to the severe drought we were all faced with. Once weaned the bulls go onto a TMR ration, that is designed with the bulls longevity in mind, we have made up by our nutritionist that is a blend of Silage, Hay, Barley and Pease. Our bulls are bred to be easy doing fast gaining cattle and always seem to way out perform the projected rations so we are able to keep the amount of grain in the rations at a low %. We defiantly feel as though there is something for everyone in this offering from herd bulls to shear performance bulls to some of the safest heifer bulls you’ll find anywhere and everything in between.

As I said in last years write up we, both LA Ranch and Bar M Simmentals run large numbers of commercial cows and there for understand the importance of calving ease, longevity, easy doing cattle, soundness, and also that pounds pay so these calves need to be able to grow both for the cow calf producer but also for the feedlots because if they don’t make money then we don’t make money. We always enjoy giving tours wether its summer of winter we welcome you to stop in for a visit and a tour. We encourage all to try and come by and look through the bulls at home before we move them up to the yards. It gets hectic up there and we enjoy being able to visit and go through the bulls at a slower pace at home. We hope to see everyone at the bull sale on March 23 where we will buy you lunch and have the bulls ready for your appraisal.

When we found No Limits in the spring of 2022 we knew we had to own him. He was in our minds definitely the best black baldy bull to sell that spring and he came with an awesome pedigree that was very outcross to our program and most programs across the country. He is one of the longest bulls out there and still has so much middle to him which is very hard to find. He has a ton of hair and one of the most important things in our minds is foot quality and you can’t make em much better then the feet on No Limits and boy can he stride out and travel! We never dreamed of paying $90,000 for a bull but bulls like him don’t come around every day so we knew we had to get him bought. Now two years late we couldn’t be happier with our decision that to day to just keep bidding. His calves have passed all expectations. They are some off the top calves all across the country. Warrior is a bull that just continues to impress us. Every year I can’t believe how impressive his calves turn out for being such a great calving ease bull. His calves are always up and sucking within minutes! His first daughters calved this year and they are a real nice set with good udders awesome feet and are already doing a great job on there calves. Warrior is coming 4 this year, he stands on excellent feet and is one of the nicest bulls you’ll ever handle. We sold a small amount of semen on Warrior last fall where it commanded $475 per straw. He has unbelievable EPDs and breeds true to those numbers. For some reason we were really heavy to heifers on his calves so unfortunately there are only the two bulls in the sale this year and unfortunately none for next years sale but he will make a strong return in 2026 as we will be breeding a large group that way again this spring!

We partnered with Bar M Simmentals on these two packages of embryos. The calves are all full sibs by blood because the two cows are full sibs and they were both mated to RF Capacity who is a bull that has proven to make incredible females and awesome bulls. We actually liked these calves so much this fall that we bought some more of these embryos. All three of these bulls are big time bulls that have so much potential. They are all so sound and correct made. I have a different favourite nearly every time I see them!

36L – Homo Polled, Hetero Black I named this calf home run cause I really feel like we hit a home run on this guy. He has it all. He’s so clean through that front end he’s nice sculled he’s sound he’s super stout made he’s huge middled, big hipped so much muscle in that hind quarter tons of shape and he’s got the perfect temperament, he’s dog quite but he leaves you alone, never comes up and wants to rub on you or be a pest. Home Run has been the top gaining bull in the feedlot doing just shy of 5 lbs/day since weaning on our 3 lbs/day projected ration. We are going to retain 100 straws of in herd use semen on this bull that we will hopefully collect before the sale.

15 43L – Homo Polled, Hetero Black It’s hard to wite about these bulls and not sound to repetitive cause they are just so similar. This guy is probably the longest of these three bulls. He has a great hair coat awesome neck extension, so much top on this guy and again a real quiet easy to handle bull. Real soft made and loose hided, very sound bull just like his brothers.

24L – Homo Polled , Hetero Black A real beef bull here. He’s as stout as they come, hairy, loose hided, soggy made, long spined, deep all the way from his chest through his middle third and flank and right into that hind quarter, big hipped, wide based, wide topped just an absolute beast of a bull and to top it off he’s dog quiet.

This is a real impressive set of flush mates here. We fell in love with this cow over the years and after seeing the consistency in these calves we knew we had to own her and after some arm twisting we finally made a deal and Reward finally calls BC home! Perfect udder great feet and a real tank of a cow with an awesome pedigree. The McDavid cows that sold in the Spring Creek dispersal were definite sale features and add the great Captain Morgan bull, who has done so much good in the breed making beautiful cows and leaving lots of herd bulls out there, and you’ve got a pedigree that’s as solid as any.

Awesome haired calf, something we take great pride in, slick haired cattle just don’t do well in our climates. Stout made, loose hided, sound structured bull. Look how deep quartered this calf is, he caries that muscle way down his leg. Definitely a top end bull here.

I bought my first fullblood cow in 2019, a bred heifer from the Starwest program in AB. At the time I had no idea what to expect but I can sure say that we have been very impressed with the fullblood cattle. They milk extremely hard they have so much meat and muscle in those bulls and have a great temperament. We purchased a group of fullbloods from the highly regarded Double Bar D program in SK and are sure excited to see what those cows will do in our program. We now run around 25 fullblood cows and also do some embryos as well. It’s darn hard to beat a fullblood bull on some angus cows to give you a baldy calf that will blow you away with there performance and the premiums you will receive at the action, and the best part is those F1 cows are about as good of a cow as you can have around. Griffy is a huge middled, soggy made, loose hided bull with great foot quality and an awesome temperament. Her dam is a beautiful cow that we purchased from Black Gold Simmentals out of their Evolution sale. We actually couldn’t pick between her and her full sister as to which one was the better heifer so we actually bought them both and we are sure happy we did, they have both turned into beautiful cows that will more then likely both end up in the donor pen here in the near future and to be honest I’m still not sure which one I like better.
