April 1, 2026

April is here, bringing a beautiful close to another vibrant season at Boca Royale. As many of our snowbirds begin their journey north, we look forward to enjoying a slightly slower pace while still offering a wonderful lineup of events to keep the Club lively and connected.

We kick off the month with one of our most cherished traditions, Easter Brunch on April 5. This special day is always a highlight, bringing together family and friends for a festive and memorable celebration.

Golf takes center stage with the Boca Cares Masters Tournament on April 11, followed by our Masters Viewing Party on April 12, a great opportunity to enjoy the excitement of tournament weekend with fellow members.

From April 17–19, we’ll host the MGA Club Championship, where some of our top players will compete for the title in a weekend of skill, camaraderie, and great sportsmanship.

On Sunday, April 19, join us for a special Sunday Brunch featuring live music by Dick & Kami, the perfect way to relax and enjoy the afternoon.

The fun continues with Trivia Night on April 21, always a lively and engaging evening, followed by our always-entertaining Dueling Pianos on April 25, promising a night of music, laughter, and singalongs.

As we transition into the summer months, we thank all of our members, both near and far, for being part of such a special season.

We look forward to a fun and engaging summer ahead at Boca Royale.

membership update

Update from Allie Lowery

As we move through the season at Boca Royale, it’s been wonderful to see so many members enjoying the Club, connecting with one another, and taking part in everything we have to offer.

There is a lot of exciting progress underway, and I wanted to share a few important updates as we continue to grow and enhance the member experience

Membership Office Update

My office is now located at the Discovery Center, where I’ll be focused on welcoming prospective members and sharing the Boca Royale lifestyle. You’ll still see me around the Club often, and I’m always available to assist. Please don’t hesitate to reach out or stop by and say hello! Allie Lueck will continue to be based at the Clubhouse and is also available to assist with membership needs.

Looking Ahead — Private Club Transition

As a reminder, Boca Royale will officially transition to a private club on July 1. This is an exciting step forward that will enhance the overall member experience, including dining, amenities, and access to Club facilities. We appreciate your continued support as we move in this direction and look forward to all that this next chapter brings

Member Experience & Communication

At Boca Royale, our goal is to provide an exceptional experience for every member, every time. If something does not meet your expectations, we truly want to know. Please reach out to Management directly so we have the opportunity to address any concerns promptly. If we are not aware of an issue, we cannot work to improve it. Your feedback helps us grow and ensures the Club continues to be a place we are all proud to call home.

As always, thank you for being a valued part of the Boca Royale community.

Update from the Men’s Golf Association

2026 men’s club championship

Exciting changes are coming to this year ’ s club championship! There will be four flights of gross and net competition based on tee groupings and USGA handicapped indexes, paying the top five places in each division

The Boca Royale Club Championship will be held this April 17, 18 & 19. The format has been changed slightly this year to encourage more members to play and to provide more chances to win. Each flight will include a gross and a net winner, with equal prize money and awards presented for the top 5 finishers in each flight.

The flights are based on your declared tees. Please note that you may compete back a set of tees (longer) but you may not compete up a set of tees (shorter). For example, if you have declared the Gold tees this season, you may move back to the Gold/Platinum flight, but you may not move up to the Gold/Sapphire flight.

Flights are based on your declared tees and handicaps. There is no separation/criteria based on age.

Sign up through the golf genius invitation, or stop by the Pro Shop for more information.

Update from the Men’s Golf Association

adopt a hole program

To promote all members taking care of the golf course, we instituted an adopt-a-hole program. We have more than 110 members signed up to provide additional care to the course. Although, team members will go the extra mile each time they play, it is up to all of us to do the following:

Fill in divots - fill with sand and smooth flat

Repair Ball Marks - push grass back into pitch mark

Keep all four cart wheels on the path when parking

Keep carts away from tees and greens

If you are interested in joining the adopt-ahole program please reach out to Kyle or Phyllis Ramey at kpramey2@gmail.com or 937.974.5136

A couple of reminders for our members and guests:

Do we really need to keep our carts on the cart paths all the time?

To quote one of our best, most understanding and nicest members, “KEEP YOUR COTTON PICKIN’ CART AND CART TIRES COMPLETELY ON THE DING DANG PATHS!”

To quote another very knowledgeable and excellent golfer, “How would you feel if I came to your house and parked my car with two tires off your driveway and in your yard? Please keep all 4 tires on the path!”

How do my quota points go up and down in the Saturday pro shop game? Each week your quota points may be adjusted up or down depending on how you played the previous week. Your quota can go up a maximum of 4 points and down a maximum of 2 points each week.

For example, if you end up +2 or +3 points this week then your quota points will go up 1 point the next week; +4 or +5 = up 2; +6 or +7 = up 3; +8 or more = up 4.

Or, if you end up -2 or -3 points this week, your quota points will go down 1 point next week. -4 or more = down 2 points.

If you finish +1, even, or -1 your quota points will remain the same.

Frequently Asked Questions about GHIN and Posting Scores:

How easy is it to get a handicap in the GHIN system?

It only takes three rounds of 18 holes or 6 rounds of 9-hole play to establish a handicap. You enter your score into the GHIN app or on the computer in the pro shop. If you need any help with this process do not hesitate to reach out to our staff in the Pro Shop.

How do you report scores for handicap purposes?

To make games that utilize handicaps fair and fun for everyone you need an ACCURATE GHIN handicap index. Access to GHIN is part of your golf membership dues. Be sure to enter your scores after each round at the pro shop or on the GHIN app. The maximum reportable score on any hole is a double bogey plus any handicap strokes you get on that hole If you have issues or questions, please reach out to the Pro Shop for help

How do i get my GHIN number? (GHIN is a unique number given to a golfer by the USGA that allows them to track and maintain their golf handicap through a system called GHIN)

The pro shop maintains a GHIN number list and can give you a unique identifier.

If I have a GHIN number and handicap from a different golf course, how do i get it transferred to my new home course here at Boca Royale?

The pro shop will be able to update your profile within the GHIN system to reflect your new home course here at Boca Royale.

Do I have to report all of my scores in GHIN?

Yes, all qulaifying rounds are to be put into the GHIN system. GHIN and USGA have a great explanation of what rounds qualify and how to input your scores appropriately.

fitness news

to live longer and better, you want to build strength

When it comes to strength training, lifting weights or building muscle, most older adults think about body builders or Olympic athletes. They think, “Hard work, heavy lifting, sweat etc. That’s not for me! I’ll get hurt!” The truth is, building muscle is critical for healthy aging and it does NOT have to be taxing. Low impact, submaxial weight lifting is what studies show can help you not only live longer but live longer healthier. The American College of Sports Medicine published new guidelines that emphasize weightlifting for older adults and their top fitness trends for 2026 include building core strength and power training.

A doctor at the Tampa General Hospital Senior Center shared studies that show muscle mass is the key to good health, even more important than how one tips the scales. Dr. Raj Machhar stated “Sacropenia, the lack of muscle as we age, is a better predictor of mortality than total body fat in the elderly”. He also says to do some heart-pumping cardiovascular exercise to stimulate blood flow and get blood to the arms, legs and brain. Low impact walking, biking or pool exercises are good for this.

This, combined with light stretching and balance work all go toward a healthier you and fewer falls. Strength builds stability therefore getting stronger will help your balance.

The Fitness Center here at Boca Royale is well equipped for your weight training needs. We have 11 strength building machines (think Nautilus) as well as dumbbells starting at 1 pound! If you’re considering starting a strength training program, make the comittment to 2-3 days per week. You can do a warmup, exercise and stretch in just 30 minutes. It’s never too late to build strength! I’ve worked with 95-year-olds who lifted dumbbells and medicine balls. Even body weight exercises work!

For assistance with your physical fitness training please call or email me, John Richardson, at 941-896-2211 or JRichardson2167@gmail.com

Remember: it's better to be the oldest in the gym than the youngest in assisted living.
