Welcome back! As summer comes to a close and our seasonal members return, we are excited to begin the 2026-2027 season—our first season as a private country club. We look forward to a wonderful year of golf, dining, racquets, and social events, and time together with friends and family. For the enjoyment of Members and their invited guests, we want everyone to keep a few important reminders in mind.

Please take a moment to review the General Rules and Bylaws that are located on the Boca Royale Website.
Members are responsible for ensuring that their family members and guests understand and follow all Club rules, policies, and expectations while on Club property. As Boca Royale Golf & Country Club begins its new chapter as a private country club, Members are responsible for the conduct and financial obligations of their family members and guests while enjoying Club amenities. If you have guests that would like to use the facilities, and you are not accompanying them, please call ahead and speak to the respective areas to make the appropriate arrangements. Keep in mind that any charges will be put onto your account. Please make sure your guests and family visitors follow the appropriate dress codes for the dining, golf, fitness, and racquet facilities. Please treat fellow Members, guests, and Club employees with courtesy and respect. Any service concerns, suggestions, or employee-related matters should be shared with the Various Department Heads and the General Manager. SEASON STARTS HERE AT BOCA ROYALE
October is here, and with it comes the start of another exciting season at Boca Royale! The months ahead are filled with events, activities, traditions, and plenty of opportunities to spend time with friends and neighbors around the Club. We’ve been busy behind the scenes getting everything ready, and we’re excited to finally share what’s ahead! This month, we are also introducing our 2026–2027 Season Handbook, your guide to everything happening at Boca Royale from October through May. Inside, you’ll find social events, holiday celebrations, golf tournaments, racquets activities, dining events, and more. Keep it handy and start marking your calendars! October kicks off with Music Bingo on October 7, followed by our Boo-cuterie Board Class on October 12. Our Flu Shot Clinic returns October 14, and Sunday Brunch is back October 18. We’ll finish the month with plenty of Halloween fun! Witches Night Out returns October 29, followed by our Monster Mash Halloween Party on October 31. Start planning those costumes now—we can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with! Whether you’re returning for season or have been enjoying Boca Royale with us all summer, welcome to another great season at the Club. SEASON REMINDERS Around the Clubhouse
MAKE RESERVATIONS EARLY
GUEST RESPONSIBILITY
Please make reservations as far in advance as possible. This helps us plan proper staff ing and prepare the appropriate amount of food for everyone attending.
Members are responsible for their guests while on Club property, including their conduct and compliance with the Club’s dress code.
OUTSIDE FOOD & BEVERAGE EVENT CANCELLATIONS If you can no longer attend an event, please cancel your reservation at least 48 hours in advance. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the event may be subject to a 50% cancellation fee.
Outside food, liquor, and beer are not permitted anywhere on Club property, including the clubhouse, golf course, and other Club facilities or event areas.
MEMBER WINE
Reservations that are not cancelled and result in a no-show may be subject to a 50% no-show fee.
Members may bring their own bottles of wine to the clubhouse. All member-provided wine must be opened by Club staff and is subject to a $15++ corkage fee per bottle.

Members are responsible for paying the applicable event fee for any guests they bring to paid events.

As we welcome everyone back for another great season of golf, please keep these important course reminders in mind to help ensure an enjoyable experience for all members and guests. GOLF SHOP CHECK-IN
All members and their guests are asked to check in with the Golf Shop prior to teeing off.
TEE TIMES
Please arrive early and be at the first tee, ready to play, at least 5 minutes prior to your scheduled tee time.
PACE OF PLAY
Please be mindful of pace of play while on the course. Keep up with the group ahead of you, play ready golf when appropriate, and limit unnecessary delays between shots.
GOLF CLUBS
Every player must play with their own set of golf clubs. Rental clubs are available if needed.
GOLF CART USE
Only golf carts that have been properly permitted are allowed on the golf course. Personal golf carts are permitted only for Members who have paid the applicable Personal Trail Fee.
GOLF ETIQUETTE & COURSE CARE
All players are expected to observe proper golf etiquette. Please repair ball marks on the greens, fill or repair divots, and rake bunkers after use.
GUEST FEES
All guest fees will be billed to the Member’s account.
GUEST RESPONSIBILITY
Members are responsible for the behavior of their guests. Club management may suspend a Member’s privileges for violations of course rules by their guest.
OUTSIDE ALCOHOL
Outside alcoholic beverages are not permitted on the golf course. All alcoholic beverages must be purchased through the Club.
MEET BRIAN MACOY GOLF PROFESSIONAL
One of the great strengths of our club is the dedicated team that helps make every round enjoyable, whether you're a seasoned golfer or picking up a club for the first time. This month, we're pleased to introduce one of our Golf Professionals and learn a little more about his role behind the lessons, tournaments, and daily activities that keep our golf program thriving.
Q: Tell us a little about yourself and how you first became interested in golf. A: My love for golf started at age 8, and what began as a hobby quickly turned into a passion. My father got me started in the game, and by age 15, I won my Club Championship. I played golf at Gadsden State College in Alabama, and later received my degree in Golf Course Operations and Management from the Golf Academy of America. I was fortunate to have PGA and PGA Master Professionals for mentors who encouraged me, and over time I realized that helping others enjoy the game was just as rewarding as playing it.
Q: What brought you to our club? A: I had moved from the Ft. Myers and Naples area where I was an Assistant Pro at The Plantation Golf & Country Club and then Royal Wood Golf & Country Club. I then ‘moved north’ and was working as an Assistant Pro at Heron Creek when I was contacted to look at Boca Royale. I started working part-time and was then hired for the full-time position.
Q: What do you enjoy most about being a golf professional? A: I enjoy the variety of the job. Over the course of my career, I have been involved in many aspects of golf operations, including teaching, merchandising, outside operations and golf maintenance. I am working towards my PGA Class A Card, which involves on-line and inperson study. I am learning the PGA Protocols and Procedures which cover the breadth of golf course management. And it has been wonderful partnering with Linda Nevatt, PGA Golf Professional to complement each other’s skills.

BEYOND THE FIRST TEE
Q: How do you help new golfers feel comfortable?
A: I try to create a relaxed and encouraging environment. Keep the game fun. Golf can seem intimidating at first, but it's a game that anyone can enjoy. Building confidence is just as important as teaching technique. A good start is to take lessons to learn the fundamentals. “Grip, Aim and Setup” are your foundation.
Q: What is the most common mistake you see among amateur golfers? A: Course Management is what I see more than anything. It’s about playing smarter, not just swinging better. Amateurs consistently cost themselves strokes by choosing the wrong club, aiming at impossible targets and compounding one mistake with another.
Q: Please comment on any changes involving the golf course. A: We have transitioned to 9-minute tee time intervals and are testing it through at least December. This allows for a less pressured time on the course while still finishing a round in 4 hours or under. Our Saturday game has changed, and we now have almost 100 players (both men and women) in season. In January, we went to cross-overs. This means we start players on both front and back nine, which allows for a more balanced distribution of players in a tee time window. This split tee time schedule also allows for a smoother morning and better use of the course.
Q: Is there a golf course that has left a lasting impression on you? A: There are many wonderful courses, and each one offers something unique. Isleworth Golf and Country Club in Windemere, Florida is a beautiful course set on Lake Isleworth. Many PGA tour professionals live and play there, and the club even hosted the Tavistock Cup.
Q: What club(s) could you never live without? A: Without a doubt, it is my putter. Putting is one of the highlights of my game. My short game is also good, and my sand wedge can be very versatile.
Q: What do you like to do when you're not at the golf course? A: Kayaking is my way to relax. I have been to Siesta Key, Sanibel, the Florida Straits and Key West to name a few. I also work out on a regular basis. And believe it or not, I enjoy watching old television shows such as Gunsmoke and the Andy Griffith Show.

GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT FROM BEN KAMBERG
Maintenance Update We would like to thank all our members for their patience and understanding during our two-day course closure on September 14 and 15. These closures give our maintenance team the opportunity to complete important work that is difficult to accomplish while the course is open. During the closure, we completed our second round of deep solid-tining on the greens, paired with a heavy topdressing and verticut prior to the solid tine. This work helps relieve compaction, improves air and water movement through the soil profile, and promotes deeper, healthier roots. We also removed cores from all tee boxes to help soften the surfaces, relieve compaction, and improve overall growing conditions. With the aerification equipment available, we were also able to spot-aerify several compacted areas throughout the fairways before returning the equipment following the closure. In addition to the agronomic work, our team used the two days to continue improving the property's appearance by trimming and cleaning up the chord grasses and other ornamental plantings throughout the golf course. We are very pleased with what our team was able to accomplish in just two days and appreciate everyone's patience and support. With these practices happening in only two days, expect green speeds to slow down as we heal the greens back in. These maintenance practices are an important investment in the long-term health, playability, and appearance of the golf course.
Preparing for Golf Season As we move closer to the heart of golf season, we are beginning preparations for a project that we believe will have a significant impact on the overall appearance of the golf course. We will be installing pine straw in select areas throughout the property while also creating and expanding landscape beds to enhance the aesthetics of the course. In the coming weeks, our team will be preparing these areas by spraying out existing vegetation, defining bed lines, and completing the necessary detail work before installation. We are very excited about this project and believe the contrast between the vibrant green Paspalum and the natural brown of the pine straw will dramatically enhance the presentation of the golf course. We are targeting late October for the pine straw installation. Waiting until later in the fall will help reduce the risk of a hurricane or major storm damaging or washing away the material shortly after installation, protecting the investment we are making in the property. We look forward to seeing this project come together and continuing to find ways to improve the overall presentation of the golf course as we head into the upcoming golf season.
Bridge Improvements
We understand that the condition and long-term integrity of the bridges throughout the property are a concern, and we want our members to know that we are actively addressing them. I have had two separate engineering companies evaluate the bridges, and we are currently awaiting a proposal outlining the recommended improvements. At this time, the bridges do not present a safety concern, but we recognize the importance of being proactive rather than waiting until an issue develops. We will take the necessary measures to ensure the bridges remain safe, structurally sound, and aesthetically appropriate for the golf course. Our goal is to address these improvements responsibly and well before any bridge becomes a safety concern.
GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT CONTINUED
Employee of the Month: Chris Guillette Starting this month, I am excited to introduce a new monthly feature highlighting one of the outstanding members of our golf course maintenance team: Employee of the Month. Our team works extremely hard behind the scenes every day to maintain and improve the golf course, and I want to take an opportunity each month to recognize an individual who has gone above and beyond. Each Employee of the Month will be selected based on their work ethic, attitude, attention to detail, teamwork, and overall contribution to the maintenance team. I look forward to sharing a little more about each employee, highlighting their accomplishments, and giving our members an opportunity to get to know the people who work so hard to make the golf course what it is. This month the person who stood out to me the most was Chris Gullette. Chris has been someone who I could immediately trust and depend on when I first took over the property. His attention to detail and work ethic is what makes him a key player in our operation. What really made him standout to me this month was when we were circle mowing our approaches. This cultural practice is used to remove grain from the leaf blades and essentially start a clean slate that we can use to mow different designs and patterns. However, circle mowing is timely and often takes longer than normal mow patterns, which can cause the golfers to catch us during our work. Chris assured that the work would get done though, as he worked through his lunch break during the hottest part of the day to make sure we would finish in a timely manner.
Get to Know Chris Q: How long have you been working here at Boca Royale? A: I have been working here coming up on 5 years, in December. Q: Where are you from? A: I grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana. Go Tigers! Q: What is your favorite aspect of working on the golf course? A: I love watching things change, whether it be something instant; like mowing through the dew and seeing your mow lines, or something gradual, like watching the grass growin together after the renovation. I like how everyday is something different, so it’s never boring. I also enjoy the people I work with. Q: What does working at Boca Royale mean to you? A: Working on the golf course agronomy team here at Boca Royale is a relatively new role for me. I have worked in almost every job related to the golf industry. I worked in golf course Pro Shops at other clubs, I’ve done golf club repair at Golf Galaxy, I’ve been on the retail side of the business, the marketing side… I’ve even been a tournament director previously in Louisiana. But I do enjoy this side of the industry. Just being outside and seeing the results from our hard work is what keeps me coming back. Q: What is one thing members may not realize about golf course maintenance? A: More so the dos and don’ts. When it gets busy out here during golf season, the effects of constant golf cart traffic can wear out the turf. Always consider where you drive.
Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work? A: It’s been a little while since I’ve done it, but I love to hunt and fish, as well as attending sporting events, college or professional. I also have a green thumb! I enjoy taking care of my garden at home where I grow Bell peppers, tomatoes, Chili peppers, and limes.
Q: Do you have any family, pets, and anything else you’d like to add? A: I have my wonderful girlfriend, Mary, of 10 years. Together we have a rescue dog who is half chihuahua and half terrier. His name is Spencer. I love the game of golf and all the facets of the industry, but I love being outside most of all.

The Boca Divas celebrated the end of the summer season on Wednesday, Sept. 16 th with a special wine down! Each team received a bottle of wine to cheer friendship and camaraderie through golf.

MEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION MGA EVENT CALENDAR:
WHAT EXACTLY IS THE MGA AND HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM CLUB The Men’s Golf Association (MGA) advocates for its members by running golf tournaments and communicating with its members and the Club. As golf members, you are automatically part of the MGA, and will be billed the annual fee through the club. As a MGA member in good standing, you are eligible to play in the games and tournaments run by the MGA or Club.
The Boca Royale Country Club is the business organization that runs the restaurant, club house, grounds, golf course, etc. When you hear the term “Club,” it generally refers to Club and Golf Management, including Neal Corporation, Club Manager Doug Foote, Golf Professional Brian McCoy, Pro Shop Manager Stan Keown, and Golf Course Superintendent Ben Kamberg.
MGA OPENING DAY TOURNAMENT & ANNUAL MEETING: On Monday, November 9th we will hold our Opening Day Tournament starting with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m., followed by lunch with an open beer keg (1 hour), and our MGA Annual Meeting. It will be a 4-Man (ABCD) 18-hole Scramble. Entry Fee $25.
PLEASE DECLARE OR CONFIRM WHAT TEES YOU WANT TO PLAY We need you to declared or confirm what tees you intend to play this season. Your choice will be recorded in Golf Genius by the Pro Shop for tournament participation. To participate in MGA events, you must have declared a set of tees which can be done very easily by contacting or stopping by the Pro Shop. This declaration will be set for the 2027 MGA season. In the event of a medical issue, a change request can be submitted to the Pro Shop for consideration.
Update from the Men’s Golf Association continued COMMON RULE CLARIFICATION: USGA Rule 16.1 gives players free relief (no penalty stroke) when their ball, stance, or swing is interfered with by an abnormal course condition.
WHAT ARE ABNORMAL COURSE CONDITIONS?
Animal Holes: Holes, burrows, or runways made by animals like cranes, rabbits, moles, or armadillos.
Ground Under Repair (GUR)
Immovable Obstructions:
Artificial objects that Areas marked by the cannot be moved easily, pro/superintendent, such as cart paths, plus piled materials like sprinkler heads, or mangrass cuttings. made structures like restrooms.
Temporary Water: Any temporary puddle or casual water on the surface of the ground that is not a penalty area.
Please note that roots are not abnormal conditions.
There is no “Root Rule”. WHEN DOES INTERFERENCE EXIST?
You are allowed relief under Rule 16.1 if: Your ball touches, lies in, or lies on the abnormal course condition. The condition physically interferes with your area of intended stance or your area of intended swing. The condition is on your line of play (only if it is on the putting green, or strictly specified locally like restrooms on holes #4, #8, and #14).
HOW TO TAKE RELIEF To take free relief, you must find your Nearest Point of Complete Relief (the closest spot where the condition no longer interferes). 1. Measure one club-length from that reference point. 2. Drop a ball within that relief area. 3. The drop must not be nearer to the hole than your original spot.
PRACTICAL EXAMPLE OF RULE 16.1 I noticed a few puddles around the course after the rain the other day. How do I play it if my ball goes in a temporary wet area or puddle? Temporary water or casual water sometimes occurs and you get free relief from it as long as it does not occur in a penalty area. Yes, you get relief in the general area (fairway, rough, fringe and green), even in a sand trap. Relief is to the nearest point no closer to the hole. Please note that if the casual water is in the sand trap, you must take relief in the trap - bummer but true.

PICKLEBALL NEWS SUMMER OPEN PLAY SCHEDULE The Summer Open Play schedule will be returning back to normal hours of play effective October 1. That means courts 1-4 will no longer be available for member reservation during the hours of 8:00am to 10:30am Monday through Friday.

MEET DAVE THIEME
Dave Thieme is beginning his 5th year as Pickleball Pro at Boca Royale. Dave has been a Certified Level II Instructor thru IPTPA since 2020. He has won tournaments in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and Florida in Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles events. He has a love of pickleball and a big heart for our community. For the past 3 years he has been tournament director benefiting our community’s Boca Cares which funds local charities and he directs another summer tournament for a local Indiana charity. He and his wife Julie spend summers in Indiana to enjoy time with their 2 children, son Scott and daughter Sara and 6 grandchildren.

Instead of meeting at the courts as a group during the 4-week session, Dave will send an email each week with team match-ups by similar skill level. The teams will schedule their match play games anytime during the week and report scores to Dave. Play 3 games to 11, win by 2.

STRETCHING BEFORE GOLF (Regardless of Age)
Fitness and golf have become synonymous since Tiger Woods' early years. At the time, no golfer had been so muscular and fit, which led to his many tour victories. Decades ago, we used to go to the range before a round and "warm up" by hitting a few balls. Those days are antiquated now. There are numerous facilities around the globe that cater to golf exercise programs and stretching techniques. The PGA Tour even has 2 mobile wellness and recovery semi-trailers available for the players that travel to all of the tournaments.
“Stretching is a vital pre-round activity to not only lower your score, but to prevent injury.” Players like Billy Horschel, Jon Rahm and Dustin Johnson all use dynamic stretching exercises as a pre-match preparation. The most famous golfer who stretches (for PGA enthusiasts) is Miguel Angel Jimenez.His pre-match routine is one for the ages. Hours before he hits a ball, his trainer has him swinging 2 clubs, doing torso rotations and working on his shoulder mobility. He understands the importance of rotating the shoulders and not the hips, a concept most casual golfers cannot achieve (the X Factor). He stretches all of his leg muscles too. Previous injuries and surgeries can hinder a good golf swing which is why it's good to know your limitations. A well-planned out stretching program can help make the golfing motions easier. It does not have to take hours like Miguel.It could be 10-15 minutes. When you do hit the range, start swinging with easy motions then build up to full speed. Establishing a good warm-up stretching routine will maximize your play and have you on the course for years to come.
