Dear Members,
club house update Update from Doug Foote
As Boca Royale reaches July, we celebrate another significant milestone in our club’s history. From our beginning as a cattle ranch in 1965 when Mr. Clarks first received approval to build an 18-hole golf course, to the opening of the first 9 holes in January of 1966 and the second nine in 1967, our Club has continually evolved. Originally being named “Englewood Golf and Country Club” and then becoming “Boca Royale Golf and Country Club”, our community has grown and transformed over the decades. Now, July 1 , we proudly begin our next chapter as a Private Golf and Country Club community.
As announced earlier this year, Boca Royale Golf & Country club will officially transition to a Non-Equity Private Country Club on July 1 . With the continued growth of our community, recent renovations to the clubhouse. the golf course, the additional pickleball courts, this transition marks an exciting new chapter for Boca Royale. st
This Change is designed to enhance the overall member experience, reinforcing the Clubs Identity as a memberfocused environment. Private Club model provides operational clarity, and brand elevation, while enhancing the overall member experience. This Transition can secure the club’s long-term success and strengthen its value for current and future members
Updated Country Club Bylaws and Rules will also take effect on July 1 . They are posted on the website, and we encourage you to review them.
Doug Foote General Manager
Questions that you may have:
Why is the club making this change?
Transitioning to a private club enhances member access to the golf course, tee times, and dining, while also supporting the long-term sustainability and overall value of the club experience.
What does “Non-Equity private club” mean?
A non-equity private club is owned privately and operated privately. Members pay dues and enjoy club privileges without equity ownership responsibilities.
Will the club be implementing a Food and Beverage minimum?
While our bylaws allow for a food and beverage minimum, we are not implementing one at this time; however, it may be considered in the future
How are my dues being affected?
Dues Changes will be made by your classification
Social Member dues will remain the same Golf and Racquets dues will increase at the same number that they increased in January on July 1 . As all billings, the club bills the next month dues along with the month that would had just ended. So July dues will be on your June statement. st
$10 for Racquets
$45 for Golf
Do these changes apply to Non-Resident Members?
Yes. The same applicable dues increases will apply to non-resident membership within each category.
Why is the Golf Membership dues adjustment higher?
Golf operations represent the largest investment for the club, including course maintenance, equipment and staffing. As the club transitions to a fully private environment with the course dedicated primarily to members and their guests, the golf dues adjustment helps support continued course quality and improved member access and membership.
Can I bring guests ?
Yes, Members will continue to be able to invite guests to play golf, pickleball, Tennis, Dine, and use other club amenities, in accordance with the club’s guest policies.
Will the club allow outside non-member events?
Private events may be permitted, provided they are scheduled so as not to interfere with club member programming. Weddings
Holiday Parties
Golf Outings
Business Meetings
Will reciprocal play still be available?
Yes. Limited reciprocal play opportunities will be available during the off season (May 15 to October 31st).
Will Initiation fees change in the future, and will I have to pay the difference from what I originally paid?
Yes. Initiation will change. You are not going to be charged the additional difference from what you originally paid, you are already a member of the Club
Is the club making this change because of financial issues?
No The transition to a non-equity private club is intended to strengthen the long-term stability and desirability of the club. By focusing on member access and limiting outside public access, the club can enhance the overall member experience while maintaining a sustainable business model.
Will Dues continue to increase every year?
Like most private clubs, dues are reviewed periodically to keep pace with the operating costs, staffing and facility improvements The goal is always to maintain the quality of the club while keeping dues reasonable and competitive with similar private clubs.
membership update

Update from Allie Lowery
It's hard to believe another July is here. While many of our seasonal members are enjoying cooler weather with family and friends, this month marks an exciting milestone for all of us here at Boca Royale as we officially become a private Club. It is a moment to celebrate how far we've come together and to look ahead to the exciting future that lies ahead.
ght years since I first walked through the doors of Boca Royale. Looking back, I can't help but smile at everything I've had the privilege of experiencing. Over the years, I've watched strangers become lifelong friends, welcomed hundreds of new members, celebrated retirements, anniversaries, birthdays, and even the joy of members becoming grandparents for the very first time. I've shared in so many meaningful moments that remind me Boca Royale is about so much more than golf, or dining. It's about the people, the relationships we build, and the memories we create along the way!
I've had the opportunity to watch the Club evolve in incredible ways, from clubhouse renovations and expanded dining and social events to membership growth, enhanced amenities, and now our transition to a private Club. We've also weathered challenges together, including hurricane cleanup and recovery, which reminded us just how resilient and supportive our members truly are Every milestone has helped shape the Boca Royale we know and love today.
As Membership Director and Lifestyle Ambassador, I feel incredibly fortunate to introduce prospective homeowners and future members to everything Boca Royale has to offer Every tour reminds me how lucky we are to call this Club home, and I love sharing not only our beautiful amenities, but the friendships and sense of belonging that make this place so special
Thank you for allowing me to grow alongside this incredible Club over the past eight years There is so much we should all be proud of, and as we begin this exciting new chapter together, I truly believe the very best is still ahead of us.

golf course improvements
Our hard working maintenance team continues to make more and more improvements throughout the course Here is a picture of the new coquina area where the old putting green was.

Which tees should I be playing?
There is always a lot of discussion and banter about which tees folks should be playing The following chart is a great reference tool to help make your decision.
usga tee recommendations

Once you declare what tees you want to play, then tell the ProShop:
All tees are to be declared prior to the start of the new season and will be recorded in Golf Genius for tournament participation. To participate in MGA events, you must have declared a set of tees This can be done very easily by stopping in the Pro Shop
Declaring your tees will streamline the tournament setup process and support the pro shop staff. All MGA members are required to declare a set of tees that they will play for MGA sponsored events, unless the specific event assigns tees This declaration will be set for the 2027 MGA season. In the event of a medical issue, a change request can be submitted to the pro shop for consideration.

rules review
Restrooms on 4, 8, & 14 are immovable obstructions and are free relief for line of sight to the hole, to the nearest point no closer to the hole
Please note this does not mean dropping back into the fairway. Normally it is sliding over to the nearest point you can see to the green. On #4 it is usually back toward the coquina cart path where you have to “thread the needle” on the next shot between the restrooms and the bushes On #8 it might even be dropping toward #4 where you can see the green
Maintenance Area and surrounding high grass areas to the right of 9 and 10 on hole side of the fence are played as penalty areas If your ball goes in the area outside the fence, you may play it as it lies, use the drop area and add 1 stroke penalty, or play from where you last hit with 1 stroke penalty If the ball is lost or inside the fenced area you cannot play it and must go to the drop area or re-hit from the last spot.
Driving Range, and areas to the left of 9 are out of bounds. You may rehit with stroke and distance penalty, or bring the ball out two (2) club lengths in the fairway and add a two (2) stroke penalty. Please note this means you would be hitting four (4) from the fairway - NOT three (3).
Roads are out of bounds on 1, 4, 5, & 17. This is important to remember if you hit it left on #5, you may be able to play it from near the sidewalk left of the bushes You may not “want” to play your ball, nor maybe “should” play it, but you “ can ” as long as it is on the hole-side of the road.
Golf Course Superintendent’s Report
From Ben Kamberg
As we move into July, I wanted to take a moment to share a few updates from around the golf course. The summer months are an important time for us, as they provide an opportunity to complete projects and cultural practices that help improve course conditions for the upcoming season. While some of this work takes place behind the scenes, each project is part of a larger plan to enhance playability, turf health, and the overall golfing experience at Boca Royale.
I continue to appreciate the warm welcome from the Boca Royale community and the support shown to our team. We are excited about the progress being made and look forward to sharing some of the work currently underway. In this month's edition, I'll highlight a few key projects and provide an inside look at what we ' re doing to keep the golf course moving in the right direction. Thank you for your continued support.
Goosegrass Control Update:
You may have noticed some white or "bleached" patches throughout the golf course over the past few weeks. This is the result of a targeted herbicide application used to control goosegrass, one of the more difficult summer weeds we encounter in our turf. The product works by temporarily disrupting pigment production in susceptible plants, causing them to turn white before eventually dying. While the bleaching can be noticeable, it is an expected part of the control process. Our platinum paspalum shows some temporary whitening as well, but the turf is not harmed and will fully recover. Research conducted on seashore paspalum has shown that following recovery from Pylex applications, turf quality and color often improve beyond pre-treatment levels In other words, while the temporary bleaching may not be aesthetically pleasing, the end result is healthier turf, reduced weed pressure, and a greener, more uniform playing surface. While being out of the golfing season and in our growing season, now is the perfect time to do these applications to further mitigate our weed problems.

Pump Station Upgrade Improves Irrigation Efficiency
This month, we completed an important upgrade to our irrigation pump station with the installation of a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) for our 30horsepower submersible jockey pump The jockey pump serves as the first line of defense in maintaining water pressure throughout the irrigation system. During the day, when the golf course is not actively being irrigated, the pump automatically adjusts its speed to maintain consistent pressure within the system. This is particularly beneficial as portions of our older PVC mainline infrastructure experience minor pressure losses from small leaks that naturally develop over time The new VFD allows the jockey pump to ramp up and down smoothly based on demand, rather than simply turning on and off.
Bleaching caused by Pylex, which mitigates goosegrass.

Golf Course Superintendent’s Report
From Ben Kamberg
This also creates a much smoother transition when our larger 75-horsepower main pumps come online during nightly irrigation cycles. By reducing pressure fluctuations and sudden starts, we place less stress on the entire irrigation system while improving overall efficiency and reliability. While this upgrade may not be visible from the golf course, it is an important investment in the infrastructure that supports healthy playing conditions every day. Small improvements like these help us maximize the performance of our irrigation system while we continue to evaluate and improve older sections of the course ' s underground piping network We also replaced the check valve that is part of this 30horsepower pump. It was completely broken and was the cause of the loud slamming sound you might hear when driving by the pump station. Now that the check valve is replaced, we are working on programming the VFD so that it can accurately ramp up and down slowly so that we can reduce the “water hammer” that gets sent out from the check valve every time it shuts. This will help prevent future breaks in our mainlines so that we can work on improving our golf course irrigation and decreasing resources spent on fixing problems.
Golf Cart Parking Update:
One of the larger projects we have made significant progress on this month was the construction of the new golf cart parking lot near the practice facilities. This area will be used for a variety of reasons: as a staging area for tournaments, a place to park and grab a bite to eat after playing 18, an area to park after a sunset cruise on your way to dinner, and a place to park during a concert on our Event Lawn. Getting to this stage involved several important steps. First, we marked out the area and applied herbicide treatments to eliminate any existing grass and weeds. After two applications, the site was ready for sod cutting along the edges of the cart path Once the sod was removed, we graded and leveled the area to create a smooth foundation. Then we adjusted irrigation, to be prepared for the new grass and landscape that is to be installed. We then installed two pallets of paspalum sod to establish healthy turf coverage. Following the sod installation, we spread and leveled five dump truck loads of 131 Screenings, a mixture of crushed concrete and sand, to improve the surface and provide stability. With the screenings and sod now in place, we came up with a landscape plan and will be installing over 100 plants of 6 different varieties to bring life and color to the area Additionally, we added pavers and landscaping to the Starter Pavilion to help give a more polished look as you enter the golf course. We look forward to seeing this area continue to take shape and become an attractive and functional addition to our club.

A Conversation with Our Personal Trainer, john richardson

Staying active is an important part of enjoying all the club has to offer We recently sat down with John Richardson to learn more about the programs, philosophy, and inspiration behind our Fitness Center.
Q: Can you tell us about your background and what led you to this role?
A: I grew up in Bradenton and went to the State College of Florida. I initially owned a Personal Training Facility in St. Petersburg. After moving to Colorado for a while, I returned to work at Long Boat Key Resort and Spa. I have a certification in Nutrition, and am a Corrective Exercise Specialist After moving to Venice, I started as a Personal Trainer at Boca Royale in September 2022 And the rest is history!
Q: What do you enjoy about working at our club?
A: Our community is a very active group, and our Fitness Center is very well-equipped. There is something for everyone. My best days are when I see tangible results from my clients. My mantra is “Don’t just age longer but age healthier longer”. My goal is to keep our residents “ on their feet”.
Q: What is an average day like for you?
A: No two hours are the same. Personal regimens are tailored to the client, whether it be balance, post-orthopedic surgery or athletic and strength training The most popular requests are for sports-specific training in golf, tennis or pickleball I also focus on balance, core training and injury prevention, emphasizing lateral stability
Q: What advice would you give to someone just getting started?
A: Start simple and be consistent. You don’t need to do everything at once. Even a few sessions a week can make a meaningful difference. And don’t hesitate to ask for guidance.
Q: In your opinion, what prevents people from coming to the Fitness Center?
A: Sometimes it is pain. But more frequently, it is a feeling of inadequacy and intimidation. We welcome people at all levels of fitness I hold a monthly orientation to show members the basics of the equipment I try to be accessible for questions and encouragement If desired, I can help members with personal workouts that focus on functional training, core strengthening, balance and weight loss.
Q: What does your personal fitness routine look like?
A: I focus on functional training, including core and balance. It is not important to lift ‘heavy’ weights. Less weights with proper form and repetition are my personal goal.
Q: Tell us a little bit about life outside of Boca Royale?
A: Kricia and I live in South Venice She is a personal trainer at Plantation Golf and Country Club Weekends are spent fixing our house, doing yard work and having some down time Our kiddos are our parrot Buddy and our cockatiel Goose.
Q: Final Thoughts?
A: The Fitness Center is a place where members can connect, recharge and invest in their well-being. Just a reminder that it is never too late to start or to try something new. Whether you ’ re a seasoned athlete or just beginning, I am here to support you every step of the way.

Healthier, Happier Hips
One of the most frequent complaints I hear as a personal trainer is about hip ti stretch the lower back and hip area As we age, it is common to experience decr reduced range of motion in our hips This often results from not moving the joi motion regularly whether due to standing or sitting for long periods, or even t racquet sports
To help maintain mobility, here are a few stretches you can perform safely every day, either on the floor or before you get out of bed in the morning See the attached for illustrations.
1
2
The first stretch is done sitting on a chair. Cross one leg so that your ankle is on top of the thigh of the other leg. Lean your torso forward to gently feel the stretch. Do this 2-4 times and hold for 5-10 seconds.
Repeat with other leg
The second is a hip flexor stretch. While lying on a table or bed, let your leg hang off towards the floor and feel the stretch along the front of your thigh. Hold for 5-10 seconds and repeat with the other leg.
2
3
4
Stretch number three can be done with a belt or rope. Simply loop around your foot, pull slightly back on a straightened leg, then cross over your body.
The final stretch is done lying on your back, both legs bents with your knees toward your chest.
I stress PAIN FREE RANGE OF MOTION to my clients. Please don't try to "pull extra hard" or go past your pain levels
NOTE: If you have had any hip or low back surgery, I suggest speaking to your doctor prior to doing these stretches.
To get a more personalized program or to get help with these and other stretches, please contact me at JRichardson2167@gmail.com or 941-896-2211
