As we turn the page from another outstanding boat show season, there’s a real sense of excitement building across the Gulf Coast boating communities. From the first winter shows in January through the final spring events in May, this year’s boat show season proved to be one of the strongest in recent memory. Attendance was impressive, dealer optimism was high, and reports from exhibitors pointed to solid boat sales across the board—an encouraging sign for an industry that thrives on momentum, enthusiasm, and a shared passion for life on the water.

For me personally, boat show season has always been one of the most enjoyable times of the year. It represents much more than just new model debuts and the latest in technology. It’s the unofficial kickoff to boating season—a time when the entire marine community comes back together after the winter months. Dealers, manufacturers, marina operators, captains, anglers, and boating families reconnect, catch up, and share in the anticipation of the season ahead. There’s a camaraderie at these events that makes this industry special. Whether you’re talking boats, engines, electronics, fishing gear, or simply swapping stories from last season, the energy is contagious.

And just as the boat show banners come down, tournament season roars to life.

Across the Gulf Coast, from the Florida Panhandle to Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and even Texas, the competitive offshore fishing calendar begins to fill quickly. For many in our boating and

fishing community, this is the most exciting stretch of the year. Blue marlin tournaments, billfish classics, king mackerel competitions, and offshore events begin stacking up on nearly every week-end, bringing together some of the finest sportfishing teams on the Gulf. These events are about far more than competition—they’re celebrations of the offshore lifestyle, friendships, tradition, and the pursuit of unforgettable moments on the water.

At the same time, recreational boating shifts into high gear as Memorial Day weekend approaches. For many families, Memorial Day is the official launch of summer—the moment when the boats come out of storage, the coolers get packed, and weekends become centered around sandbars, wa-terfront restaurants, fishing trips, and cruising with friends. It marks the beginning of the season we all wait for.

At Boat South Magazine, this is exactly why we do what we do. We love capturing the people, places, events, and stories that define Gulf Coast boating culture. Whether your passion is offshore tournament fishing, cruising the bays, exploring backwaters, or simply enjoying a sunset from the dock, this is your season.

Twenty-five years ago, the Gulf Coast boating scene looked very different than it does today. From Panama City and Destin to Pensacola and Orange Beach, the marinas and boat ramps were once dominated by traditional family cruisers, bowriders, cuddy cabins, and stern-drive powerboats powered by automotive-style inboardoutboard engines. Boats built around comfort and overnight accommodations were the standard, while center consoles were viewed more as hardcore fishing machines than all-around family boats. My first experience with this style boat was in the late 90’s with a 17’ Cape Horn, one of only a few center consoles on Pickwick Lake back then. It was a perfect compliment to my Gibson Houseboat at the time, but was basic and simple.

Today, the story is completely different . The modern center console — powered by quiet, fuel-efficient four-stroke outboard engines — has become the dominant boat style across coastal waters. Whether cruising Crab Island in Destin, running offshore from Orange Beach, or island hopping the Panhandle, center consoles now rule the Gulf Coast boating lifestyle.

The transformation didn’t happen overnight. Over the last two decades the boating industry experienced one of its biggest shifts in history. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, many recreational powerboats relied on stern-drive propulsion systems, commonly

called inboard-outboards or I/Os. These setups used marinized automobile-style V-6 and V-8 engines mounted inside the boat, paired with an outdrive extending through the transom. Popular brands like MerCruiser and Volvo Penta powered thousands of family boats across the coun-try.

At the time, cuddy cabins and deck boats were incredibly popular because boaters wanted enclosed seating, small sleeping areas, and protection from the weather. Many boats were designed more like mini cruisers than open fishing platforms. But several major changes in boating technology and consumer preferences began pushing the market in a new direction.

The biggest turning point was the rapid advancement of modern outboard engines — particularly four-stroke technology. Earlier two-stroke outboards had long carried a reputation for being loud, smoky, fuel-hungry, and sometimes unreliable. That changed dramatically beginning in the 1990s as manufacturers like Mercury, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Honda invested heavily in cleaner and quieter four-stroke engines. Environmental regulations also accelerated the move toward cleaner-burning technology. At the time, a close friend, David Woods, was deep in the offshore racing world while selling Fountains, MTI’s and Cigarettes all over the county. I’ll never forget him telling me at a race one weekend that the efficient and powerful four stroke outboards were going

to dramatically change the boating industry we were all in love with at the time. Of course we all questioned and debated the comment, which proved to be exactly what happened. Suddenly, outboards became smoother, more dependable, far more fuel-efficient, and easier to maintain. They also offered major advantages in saltwater environments where corrosion and maintenance had always been concerns with inboard and sterndrive systems. For Gulf Coast boaters, the benefits were hard to ignore. Outboards allowed boats to run shallower, simplified servicing, eliminated cramped engine compartments, and created more usable space onboard. Multiple-engine setups also became increasingly practical. Twin outboards became common, then triples, and eventually quad-engine center consoles entered the market, producing offshore performance once reserved for hight performance inboard V-bottoms and Cats as well as large sportfishing yachts.

AT THE SAME TIME, CENTER CONSOLE BOAT DESIGNS EVOLVED DRAMATICALLY

The center console of the 1980s and 1990s was often viewed as a stripped-down fishing boat with minimal seating and limited comfort. But manufacturers soon realized that boaters wanted versatility. Families wanted boats that could fish offshore in the morning, cruise to waterfront restaurants in the afternoon, and spend the evening anchored at a sandbar with friends. Boat builders responded by transforming center consoles into luxury multipurpose platforms.

Today’s center consoles feature plush seating, oversized hardtops, premium stereo systems, air-conditioned helm stations, fold-away seating, integrated coolers, large electronics dis-plays, freshwater systems, and even sleeping accommodations hidden inside spacious console cabins. Some larger center consoles now

rival traditional express cruisers in both price and comfort. Unlike many northern boating regions where rough weather and shorter seasons favored enclosed cabin boats, the warm climate and open coastal waters of the Gulf Coast made open-air boating ideal nearly year-round.

FISHING CULTURE ALSO PLAYED A MAJOR ROLE

To accelerate this evolution even more, offshore fishing exploded in popularity across the Gulf Coast during the last two decades. Advances in GPS, radar, digital sonar, trolling motors, and offshore electronics made it easier for recreational anglers to safely run farther offshore than ever before. Modern center consoles were perfectly suited for the growing offshore lifestyle.

Today, it is common to see 30- to 40-foot center consoles lined up at marinas throughout the Gulf Coast powered by twin, triple, or quad four-stroke outboards producing well over 1,000 combined horsepower. Boats that once would have been considered strictly tournament fishing machines are now luxury family boats used for nearly every type of coastal boating activity imaginable. The evolution of boating over the last 20 to 25 years represents more than just a change in engine technology or hull design. It reflects an entire shift in how people use boats and enjoy life on the water. And along the Gulf Coast, no boat better represents that modern boating life-style than today’s center console.

The Wharf Boat & Yacht Show once again set the tone for boating season along the Gulf Coast with one of the region’s largest and most anticipated marine events. Held March 20–22 in Orange Beach, the three-day show delivered a massive display of boats, gear, and marine lifestyle attractions that drew crowds from across Alabama, Florida, and beyond. Widely regarded as the “top boat buying show” in the northern Gulf, the event featured more than $100 million in boats and marine products, ranging from entry-level center consoles to high-end yachts.

The layout once again blended both in-water and land-based exhibits, giving attendees the opportunity to step aboard an impressive display of wet-slip boats and yachts, while also exploring hundreds of additional center console and dual console models displayed throughout the grounds

More than 100 exhibitors were on hand, showcasing the latest in marine technology, electronics, accessories, and services. Dealers and manufacturers used the event to roll out new models and offer show incentives, making it a key buying window heading into the spring and summer boating season.

What continues to set the Wharf show apart is its setting. With restaurants, retail, and entertainment built into the marina complex, attendees can easily turn the event into a full-day—or full-weekend—experience, blending serious boat shopping with the broader coastal lifestyle.

COASTAL MARINA MANAGEMENT TEAMS UP WITH ST. ANDREWS MARINA

Coastal Marina Management, alongside St. Andrews Marina Partners, recently announced the hiring of veteran marina operator Jason Lent as harbormaster, a move that signals the next phase of the marina’s comeback and long-term management strategy. CMM has been involved in helping restore and operate the hurricane-damaged marina as part of its modernization effort. St. Andrews Marina is one of Panama City’s most historic waterfront hubs, serving charter boats, transient boaters, fishing operations, and visiting cruisers. Coastal Marina Management’s involvement suggests continued private-sector investment in rebuilding the area’s boating infrastructure.

The Salty Shuffle Charity Poker Run returns to Alabama’s Gulf Coast on Saturday, June 13, bringing a day of boating fun and fundraising to the waters of Orange Beach.

DESTIN’S BLESSING OF THE FLEET RETURNS

One of Destin’s most cherished traditions returns as the Blessing of the Fleet brings captains, crews, families, and spectators together on Destin Harbor. In the beloved annual tradition, boats parade one by one past local clergy, with each vessel receiving an individual blessing for safety, protection, and a successful season on the water. Rooted in Destin’s commercial fishing heritage, the event remains a heartfelt celebration.

DESTIN FISHING RODEO MOURNS THE LOSS OF A LOCAL LEGEND

The Destin fishing community is mourning the loss of Bruce Cheves, the longtime Destin Fishing Rodeo weighmaster whose larger-than-life personality became as much a part of the annual October tradition as the fish themselves. Known to generations of anglers as the friendly face at the scales, Cheves spent more than four decades as the heartbeat of the Rodeo, greeting fishermen with stories, humor, and an uncanny eye for the day’s catch. Affectionately known as the “Wandering Weighmaster,” Bruce became a true Destin icon, helping make the Destin Fishing Rodeo a cher-ished experience for locals and visiting anglers alike. His passing marks the end of an era for the World’s Luckiest Fishing Village, but his legacy on the docks will be remembered for years to come.

Returns to Pensacola’s Waterfront

Set against the beautiful bay front backdrop of Blue Wahoos Stadium, Wine on the Water returned to Pensacola on March 7, 2026, offering an elegant afternoon of tastings and coastal atmosphere for a wonderful cause.

Guests took to the field for a walk-around Grand Tasting, sampling a wide selection of wines, champagne, craft beer, and mocktails, paired with bites from regional chefs. Live music and open views of Pensacola Bay gave the event a relaxed, social feel as attendees mingled throughout the stadium sipping, tasting and enjoying lawn games. Coastal Culture marine added to the scenery with two beautiful boats on display as well as an auto display by presenting sponsor Sandy Sansing along with Florida Insurance Agency.

Hosted in support of the Ascension Sacred Heart Foundation, the event benefits programs for mothers and families navigating high risk pregnancies, adding a meaningful layer to one of Pensacola’s standout spring gatherings. Blending waterfront scenery with elevated flavors and a strong charitable mission, Wine on the Water continues to build momentum as a signature event on the Gulf Coast calendar.

Saunders Yachtworks’ Boot Scootin’ Boatyard Bash was held at the company’s Gulf Shores facility on Friday of the Wharf Boat Show weekend in Orange Beach. This annual customer appreciation event welcomed boat owners, captains, industry partners, and friends for an evening of live music, food, drinks, and plenty of boat talk.

More than just a party, the Boatyard Bash has become a spring tradition that reflects the close-knit nature of the Gulf Coast marine community—bringing together the people who keep the boating lifestyle running both on and off the water. Each year the Saunders crew puts an interesting twist of theme into their event, which this year brought out a little bit of country in all of us!

WAHOO

The wahoo (Acanthocybium solandri) is a sleek, fastmoving fish known for its speed and razor-sharp teeth. Wahoos have a long, slender body with a distinctive bluish-green coloration on the back, fading to silver on the sides, and vertical blue stripes.

HABITAT: Wahoos are found in tropical and subtropical waters around the world, often near the surface in open ocean environments. They are frequently found around structures such as reefs, drop-offs, and floating debris.

SIZE: Wahoos can grow up to 8 feet in length and weigh up to 180 pounds, though tournament catches typically range from 20 to 80 pounds.

BEHAVIOR: Wahoos are solitary hunters, known for their incredible speed, which can exceed 60 mph. They feed on a variety of prey, including fish and squid. When hooked, wahoos are known for their explosive runs and sharp, rapid movements, making them a thrilling catch for anglers.

TUNA

Tuna are a group of large, fast-swimming fish that are highly valued both for sport and commercial fishing. The most commonly targeted species in tournaments include the yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) and the bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus). Tuna have streamlined, torpedo-shaped bodies designed for speed, with a metallic blue back and silver belly.

HABITAT: Tuna are found in tropical and temperate waters around the world. They are highly migratory, often traveling long distances across the oceans.

SIZE: Tuna can vary greatly in size. Yellowfin tuna can grow up to 8 feet and weigh over 400 pounds, while bluefin tuna can exceed 10 feet in length and weigh over 1,000 pounds. Tournament catches often range from 50 to 200 pounds for yellowfin and much larger for bluefin.

BEHAVIOR: Tuna are powerful swimmers, capable of reaching speeds over 40 mph. They are known for their endurance and strength, making them a challenging and rewarding catch for sport fishermen. Tuna feed on a variety of prey, including smaller fish, squid, and crustaceans.

DOLPHIN

The dolphin fish, commonly known as mahi-mahi (Coryphaena hippurus), is a vibrant, fast-swimming fish prized for its beauty and culinary value. Mahi-mahi have a distinctly bright, iridescent blue-green color on their back, golden sides, and a blunt, rounded head.

HABITAT: Mahi-mahi are found in warm waters worldwide, especially in the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Sea, and around the Hawaiian Islands. They prefer offshore, open ocean environments.

SIZE: Mahi-mahi can grow up to 4.5 feet in length and weigh up to 40 pounds, though the average size caught in tournaments is around 15–30 pounds.

BEHAVIOR: These fish are known for their speed and agility. They often travel in schools and feed on a variety of prey, including fish, squid, and crustaceans. Mahi-mahi are known for their spectacular leaps and runs when hooked, providing an exciting challenge for anglers.

BLUE MARLIN

The blue marlin (Makaira nigricans) is one of the most iconic and sought-after game fish in the world. Known for its impressive size, speed, and strength, the blue marlin is a prized catch in sport fishing tournaments. They are characterized by their elongated bodies, spear-like upper jaw (bill), and vibrant blue coloration on their dorsal side, with a silver-white belly.

HABITAT: Blue marlins are found in tropical and subtropical waters of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. They prefer deep, open waters and are often found near the surface.

SIZE: Blue marlins can grow up to 14 feet in length and weigh over 1,800 pounds, although most caught in tournaments range from 200 to 500 pounds.

BEHAVIOR: They are solitary hunters, preying on a variety of fish and squid. Known for their acrobatic displays when hooked, blue marlins put up a formidable fight, making them a favorite among sport fishermen.

Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic

Timed at the peak of Gulf Coast blue marlin season and hosted at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, the Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic is one of the nation’s premier sportfishing tournaments — set on some of the most prolific fishing grounds in the country.

The BoatUS Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water has launched the only free interactive boating safety course for Florida recreational boaters

The course, which is approved by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and meets state boating safety education requirements, can be taken at the student’s own pace. After passing the exam, they can print their own certificate of completion for immediate use and will receive a lifetime card from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The course provides video demonstrations and sample common boating situations for students to interact with to better understand how to evaluate real-world instances. The learning experience includes storylines where the student “boats” to

various places and includes interactive learning tools like flashcards and dragand-drop features to enhance learning and retention. Course-takers will be able to design and name the virtual boat that takes them through the course and map how far they’ve “traveled” within it.

In the state of Florida, anyone born on or after January 1, 1988, who operates a vessel powered by 10 horsepower or more must pass an approved boating safety course and have in his/her possession photographic identification and proof of boating safety education completion issued by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

The online BoatUS Foundation boating safety course and exam are approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard as exceeding the minimum requirements for the National Recreational Boating Safety Program. “NASBLA approval of our Florida Boating Safety Course is a meaningful investment in boater safety, said Lynne O’Hearn, Program Manager at BoatUS Foundation. “Boater education is one of the most effective ways to prevent accidents, and this course gives Florida boaters the opportunity to build their skills to better enjoy Florida waterways safely.”

Embracing Costa Rica’s slow-paced mindset while fishing the rich waters of its Pacific coast

Avisit to Los Sueños, Costa Rica is equal parts a luxury escape and a world-class fishing adventure. Nestled along Costa Rica’s Central Pacific coast near Jacó, the area offers a seamless blend of lush rainforest scenery, upscale accommodations and one of the most renowned sportfishing marinas in the world.

The marina itself is the heartbeat of the experience. Each morning, anglers gather along the docks as sleek sportfishing boats prepare to head offshore into the deep blue waters of the Pacific. The excitement is contagious—crew members rig lines, check gear and make sure the boats are stocked. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or a first-timer, the atmosphere reflects Costa Rica’s “Pura Vida” lifestyle—a phrase that goes beyond “pure life” to capture a mindset of slowing down, enjoying the moment, and appreciating the simple joys of being out on the water.

Our trip out on a local charter boat, the Macushla, was nothing short of unforgettable. The crew’s expertise and easygoing attitude embodied that same Pura Vida spirit, making the entire day feel relaxed yet thrilling.

It didn’t take long before lines were tight. Over the course of the trip, we hooked into an incredible 10 sailfish—our largest reaching 124 inches. It was an experience that felt almost surreal. Watching these fish leap and dance across the water, their iconic dorsal fins slicing through the waves, is something that stays with you long after the trip ends.

An additonal surprise to us, we happened to be visiting during the final leg of the Los Sueños Triple Crown Billfish Tournament. Teams from all over, including several from the Emerald Coast, filled the docks with a competitive buzz. Among them were It Just Takes Time out of Orange Beach, Alabama, and Team Gelati. Watching these elite crews gear up added another layer to the experience.

Beyond the fishing, Los Sueños offers plenty to enjoy. After a day on the water, returning to the marina village for fresh seafood, cold drinks and a glowing Pacific sunset is the perfect way to unwind. It’s in these moments—that the Pura Vida lifestyle truly comes to life.

The 2nd Annual Freeport Boat Show held at at Shipyard Marina offered an up-close look at one of the Emerald Coast’s newest and fast-growing boating facilities. Set along Four Mile Creek, the event gave attendees a dockside view of center consoles, bay boats, and family-friendly models along with touch of beautiful sports cars. Families enjoyed on-site food trucks and live music while there were bounce houses to entertain the kids.

The show also doubled as a showcase for the Shipyard Marina itself, which has quickly become a focal point for boaters in the Freeport area. With modern forklift launching, secure rack storage, and fuel available on site, the marina is de-signed to make boating as close to “show up and go” as possible.

Its location is a major part of the appeal. Just a short run downinto the east end of Choctawhatchee Bay, giving boaters quick access to fishing grounds, bay cruising, and runs east toward 30A and Panama City or west to Destin Harbor. What stood out most during the event was the combination of new infrastructure and a tight-knit, local feel. As Freeport continues to grow, the marina—and events like this—are helping establish the area as a serious player in the Gulf Coast boating scene.

The Outdoor Adventure Expo returned to Destin April 11–12, bringing boats, gear, and coastal lifestyle exhibits.. The event was presented by 99Rock WKSM, whose promotion helped draw steady crowds throughout the weekend.

Blending a traditional boat show with a relaxed outdoor expo format, attendees browsed boats, connected with dealers, and explored a marine and outdoor products. Center consoles, bay boats, and family-friendly rigs highlighted the show, reflecting how the Emerald Coast enjoys time on the water—from offshore fishing to afternoons at Crab Island.

Beyond the boats, vendors showcased outdoor gear and coastal products. The approachable layout made it easy for both serious buyers and casual visitors to engage and compare options, bridging the gap between major boat shows and smaller dealer showcases while connecting people to the Gulf Coast boating lifestyle.

Having spent the better part of two decades researching and writing about coastal tourism, and the lifestyle that surrounds it, I’ve had the opportunity to dine in some truly spectacular places. Nowhere is that more evident than along the beach communities of Northwest Florida and Alabama’s Gulf Coast.

From renowned purveyors of fresh, local seafood in Destin and Panama City Beach, to upscale dining inside beachside resorts, to yacht

clubs and hidden gems along 30A, Gulf Shores, and Perdido Key, each offers something uniquely its own.

Considering the sheer number of dining options along our stretch of coastline, I’ve always found it a bit surprising how few truly cater to boaters looking to arrive by water. Then again, there’s only so much shoreline to go around.

In each issue of Boat South we highlight a some of my personal favorites among these water-accessible coastal hotspots, in hopes that one… or maybe all, become favorites of yours also.

Captain Anderson’s

PANAMA CITY BEACH, FL

Few restaurants along the Gulf Coast carry the history and reputation of Captain Anderson’s. Located along Grand Lagoon in Panama City Beach, this legendary establishment has been serving guests since 1967 and remains one of the most recognizable waterfront dining destinations in the region. For boaters, the ability to dock nearby and step into such a storied setting only adds to the experience.

Inside, Captain Anderson’s strikes a balance between classic coastal charm and a slightly more refined dining atmosphere. Nautical décor, warm wood tones, and expansive dining rooms give it a timeless feel, while large windows and waterfront seating provide relaxing views of the marina and passing boats.

The menu is exactly what you’d hope for from a family-owned restaurant with this kind of coastal culture and legacy: fresh Gulf seafood prepared with consistency and care. The chargrilled steaks are equally impressive, making this a great option for mixed groups looking for both land and sea selections.

Tucked along Bayou Chico just minutes from Perdido Key and downtown Pensacola, The Oyster House offers one of the more relaxed and authentic waterfront dining experiences in the area. It’s the kind of place where boaters can ease up to the dock, step inside, and immediately feel like they’ve found a local favorite.

HARBOR DOCKS

Harbor Docks is one of those rare Destin institutions that has managed to evolve while staying true to its roots. Owned and operated by the well-known Morgan family and located right on the harbor with easy access for boaters, it has long been a favorite for both locals and visitors who appreciate fresh seafood, great sushi, and an old school authentic waterfront setting.

The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between casual and polished. You’ll find a mix of longtime regulars, charter captains, and first-time guests all sharing the same space, drawn in by the relaxed vibe and unbeatable harbor views. The décor is understated and fitting. Think fish camp, yet clean, coastal, and focused more on the experience than unnecessary flash.

When it comes to the menu, Harbor Docks truly shines. Known for its fresh, locally sourced seafood, the restaurant offers everything from grilled fish and seafood platters to one of the most respected sushi programs along the Gulf Coast. The blackened grouper, fresh catch selections, and creative sushi rolls are all standout choices, and the consistency here is something worth noting.

ZEKE’S

RESTAURANT AT ZEKE’S LANDING & MARINA

ORANGE BEACH, AL

This casual, but upscale, Mediterranean inspired Orange Beach hotspot has become quite the go to for lunch and dinner, as well as being an excellent place for the younger guests in your party to have some fun of their own. Conveniently located at Zeke’s Marina in the heart of the city, the restaurant has become well respected for preparing everything on their menu just right, and especially for their locally sourced seafood.

I highly suggest the fresh oysters! And the creole flavored lobster roll is a little twist on the normally more traditional lobster rolls you may be accustomed to. The Cobia with crawfish and sausage is also a wonderful dish and you certainly won’t go wrong tying up and walking in with your own fresh catch that the awesome staff at Zeke’s are happy to prepare and serve for you. Whether you choose a burger and fries or your favorite seafood dish with fresh vegetables, you are sure to find that Zeke’s will provide you with the food and service that will make it one of your future favorites along the Alabama Coast.

JUANA’S PAGODAS & SAILORS’ GRILL NAVARRE, FL

This coastal favorite has been a fixture of Navarre Beach for three and a half decades and continues to grow in popularity.

Situated directly on the sound side of America’s Favorite Coastal Playground, Juana’s expansive beach bar and eatery features multiple bars, thousands of square feet of deck space, a waterfront restaurant, and the famous pagoda bar - complete with sand floor, and an indoor stage that plays host to some of the hottest local and touring bands across the region. Juana’s has also one-upped their own live music game, by adding their sound-side outdoor stage, allowing for much larger touring bands.

Docking your boat right behind this waterfront hotspot, you will have a choice of inside and outside seating, multiple bars in and out, beach volleyball, watersport rentals and lots of picture-perfect views allowing you to see firsthand why Navarre Beach has become the increasingly popular vacation destination that it is.

As for the food, you absolutely cannot go wrong with anything at Sailors’ Grill. From the fish sandwiches to the burgers to the baskets it is all prepared to the high standards you would expect from any establishment that’s been doing it right for 37 years.

AJ’s Seafood & Oyster Bar, Destin, and AJ’s On The Bayou

FORT WALTON BEACH

You’ve likely already made a visit to World Famous AJ’s Seafood & Oyster Bar in the heart of Destin’s harbor district. If you consider yourself a knowledgeable fan of ‘America’s Luckiest Fishing Village’ you know this iconic staple of food, fun, sun, and nightlife has been around since 1984 and now shares its famous name with the

restaurant group’s three other Northwest Florida locations - AJ’s on the Bayou in Fort Walton Beach, AJ’s Grayton, just off world famous Hwy. 30A, and AJ’s Oyster Shanty on Okaloosa Island.

The mothership of the brand, the Destin Harbor location, and AJ’s on the Bayou in Fort Walton Beach both offer boaters the opportunity to tie up and head inside for some cold beer, coastal cocktails, and an expansive array of delicious food choices, live music and more fun than you even knew you wanted to have. I personally suggest whatever is on the fresh catch menu on any given day, however you sure can’t go wrong with AJ’s Fish Tacos, or a big AJ’s Burger with fries. Trust me on that! Whatever you choose, you will find that

owner Alan Laird’s philosophy of simplicity and genuine hospitality resonates through each of the AJ’s locations, and each restaurant makes good on the AJ’s legacy of exceptional service, great food, cold drinks, live entertainment and good times.
