A Word from Our President:

Thank You for the Opportunity to Serve as Your President The sun is beginning to set on my year as President of the BMHBA. It has been my distinct honor to represent the association during this time and electing to be placed on the leadership track has been one of the best professional decisions that I have made. Over the past year, I have learned a great deal about the Chad association, its members and Moldenhauer its role in the community. Board President In my first letter, I stated that I wanted to help facilitate and encourage discussion between the BMHBA and our community leaders and elected officials. Early in the year, we held roundtable discussions with the staff and representatives from Bismarck and Mandan which opened up a dialogue that has carried through the year. These discussions have resulted in helpful changes to the way business is conducted and members of our board have served on several important committees within the community.

We also reestablished the Governmental Affairs Committee and held meetings in order to assist candidates who support the objectives of the BMHBA. Some of the other highlights of the year for me have been our membership meetings as well as events such as the February Fun night, Sporting Clay Shoot and Annual Picnic. I would also have to add the Annual Awards Banquet to this list, even though I was unable to attend due to the birth of my little boy, Cameron. Our community has never seen a period of such rapid growth and expansion. As a result, our concept of what we can accomplish in a day or how many hours we can work and still be productive have constantly evolved. Although there have been times where I have struggled to find time for everything, I have greatly appreciated the opportunity to share my thoughts with you and to have served as your President. I would like to thank the Board of Directors, Committee Members and Roxy and Chelsea who have given their time to the BMHBA over the past year. Finally, I would like to welcome Eric Brenden as your next President. I leave you in his capable hands.

A Message from Retiring Board Member Scott Duchsherer

Congratulations to our Newly Elected Board Member!

As my term as a member of the Board of Directors comes to an end, I would like to thank the membership for giving me the opportunity to help shape our association. I enjoyed being a member of the Board and plan to continue to be an involved member of the BMHBA in the future. I wish the current and incoming Board members the best of luck in the coming year.

Congratulations to Drew Knutson of Knutson Homes on being elected as our newest Board member. Drew was elected by a vote of the membership at the November GMM on Nov. 8. He will be instated as an official Board member at the Annual Banquet on January 18. We look forward to having Drew on the Board for the next three years!

Totally Awesome Tech Tips Brought to you by Armor Interactive

Website Do’s & Don’ts Aesthetics: Bad website aesthetics can send the wrong message about your business and frustrate your visitors. A website should have a creative look and feel, user-friendly navigation, and supporting content to help communicate the quality and appeal of your company.

Three BMHBA members were recognized at the NDAB Fall Board Meeting this November. Chad Moldenhauer of K & L Homes was named the NDAB Builder of the Year (pictured with his wife Stacy, left). Eddy Mitzel of Mitzel Homes (pictured with BMHBA E.O. Roxy Jacobson, right) was thanked for his service as NDAB president this past year and named NDAB past president. Plus, Dana Schlomer of Schlomer Construction was presented with the NDAB BEAM (Builders Engaging Associate Members) Award. Congratulations to all of you! Chad and Dana will go on to compete for their titles at the national level.

Content: Content is king when searching for websites. Missing the right keywords or lacking information is a sure way to miss out on visitors trying to find you. Make sure to use all the keywords that best describe your products and services. This way Google and other search engines will place your website among those keyword searches. Lead Generation: Most businesses only use their website to provide information, but what if your website could generate opportunities? Websites can help direct visitors to pick up the phone, send an email, or move forward with an online purchase. Adding incentives or calls to action are simple changes to your site to gain warm leads. For more Website Do’s and Don’ts, feel free to contact Armor Interactive at 221-0948 or stop by at 521 E Main Suite 250.

Lead Renovator Training Offered by Environmental Training Inst. The UND Environmental Training Institute is offering Lead Renovator Training across the state. The course is 8 hours and participants will receive a certificate upon completion. The cost is $225 per person. The next scheduled course in Bismarck is December 5. All firms performing renovation, repair or painting work must become certified. This can be accomplished by applying to EPA or to the State, if it has an EPA-authorized renovation program, and paying a fee.

To become certified, a renovator must successfully complete an EPA or State-approved training course conducted by an EPA or State-accredited training provider. ETI is an approved trainer. Builder Confidence Rises Five Points in November Builder confidence in the market for newly built, singlefamily homes posted a solid, five-point gain to 46 on the National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI) for November. This marks the seventh consecutive monthly gain in the confidence gauge and brings it to its highest point since May of 2006. “Builders are reporting increasing demand for new homes as inventories of foreclosed and distressed properties begin to shrink in markets across the country,” said NAHB Chairman Barry Rutenberg, a home builder from Gainesville, Fla. “In view of the tightening supply and other improving conditions, many potential buyers who were on the fence are now motivated to move forward with a purchase in order to take advantage of today's favorable prices and interest rates.” “While our confidence gauge has yet to breach the 50 mark — at which point an equal number of builders view

sales conditions as good versus poor — we have certainly made substantial progress since this time last year, when the HMI stood at 19,” observed NAHB Chief Economist David Crowe. “At this point, difficult appraisals and tight lending conditions for builders and buyers remain limiting factors for the burgeoning housing recovery, along with shortages of buildable lots that have begun popping up in certain markets.” All four regions of the country posted gains in their HMI three-month moving averages as of November. The South posted a four-point gain to 43, while the Midwest and West each posted three-point gains, to 45 and 47, respectively, and the Northeast posted a two-point gain to 31. (Note, the HMI survey was conducted in the two weeks immediately following Hurricane Sandy and therefore does reflect builder sentiment during that period.)
