BLOOMSBURY OPEN COLLECTIONS?
A progressive open access model for books
BLOOMSBURY OPEN COLLECTIONS is a collective-action approach to funding open access (OA) books. Through this model, we aim to make OA publication available to a wider range of authors by spreading the cost across multiple organisations, while providing additional benefits to participating libraries. By prioritising authors that are often underrepresented in scholarly publishing, including early-career and unaffiliated researchers and those based in/writing about low- and lower-middle- income countries, we hope to engage a more diverse author base, bringing their work to a wider global audience.

This book presents the concerns, concepts and methodologies of Ecological Discourse Analysis (EDA) based on the shared positions and practices of previous undertakings of discourse analysis EDA is regarded as an emerging paradigm in discourse studies which undertakes ecologically motivated study of discourses that influences ecological relations
The authors propose a multifaceted ecosophy that incorporates Chinese ethical and philosophical traditions and ecological principles The ecosophy of 'Diversity and Harmony, Interaction and Co-existence' describes the features of ecological dynamics, providing a basis for the evaluation of the ecological meaning represented in discourses This ecosophy contributes to such efforts with its origin in Chinese philosophies, therefore offering new opportunities for East-West dialogues on ecological values
An ecogrammar built on Systemic Functional Linguistics is provided as the analytical tool and is applied in the analysis of textbooks, news reports and advertisements The book also examines the provision of EDA for other fields of study, inspiring research possibilities that are beneficial for an ecological future and inspiring interdisciplinary and multi-methodological studies to be integrated with EDA

This volume shows that, by moving away from code models that foster restrictive perceptions of language as learned words and rules, and towards an ecolinguistics capable of integrating with concepts of embodied cognition, it is possible to recognise a broad range of connections with a language from which an individual or community has become estranged
Using the Ainu of Japan as an example and comparator, this book reviews historical and contemporary suppression of languages as a means of, or as a bi-product of, the suppression of their speakers Preservation of the Ainu language, which had no written form, has been central to official culture promotion programs, but the language has steadily declined in use
Susan Samata examines the historical, social and ecolinguistic contexts of Ainu She also considers how aspects of ecolinguistic theory may be mapped onto museum practices, television and cinema, popular literature, and the promotion of tourism These are then compared to the sociolinguistic situations of a selection of other languages and cultures in China, North America and Scandinavia By highlighting points of similarity and dissimilarity, Samata demonstrates the factors that operate in the suppression of people and their languages and suggests ways in which the perspective described may support resistance to suppression and assimilation, not least in language teaching areas
