Certain plants thrive when planted in combination with others in the garden. They boost growth, repel pests, and improve flavor for each other. Aside from the benefits to your plants, companion planting uses your garden space more efficiently, letting you harvest more. Amateur radio brings people, electronics and communication together. People use ham radio to talk across town and around the world, all without the Internet or cell phones. It can be a lifeline during times of need. Attending all class dates is encouraged, but not mandatory. Some knowledge of electricity or electronics is helpful, but not essential. Certificates are awarded upon passing the basic exam and are good for life. FITNESS Staff MARY FAST- FITNESS SUPERVISOR I’ve been in the fitness industry for over 25 years. I have taught fitness in Ireland, New Zealand and Canada to people of all ages, sizes, shapes and abilities. I’m a registered Group Fitness Instructor, Strength Trainer, Personal Trainer with BCRPA and Fitness Evaluator for all three. I am also registered with CSEP for Personal Training and Fitness Appraisals.
One size does not fit all. Each person is unique, so my education is ongoing to help me provide my clients and participants with the best advice, direction and the latest proven scientific knowledge to reach their goals. My training style is versatile, based on every individual's need and I believe every goal can be reached when my clients are inspired to be consistent and challenged.
STEVE NAGLE I took the fitness instructor course at YMCA in Vancouver in 1977. There were no other certifying agencies at that time. I moved to Campbell River and was employed by the city in September 1982. I started Sportfit that month
and the class has continued since then in the same format. I took weight training instructor and personal training certifications sometime in the 1990s.
DENISE TOMLINSON I’m a BCRPA certified fitness instructor with certifications in group fitness, strength and weight training, indoor cycling, and third age and special population fitness. I love Fitness to be fun, with great music, and easy to
follow but challenging routines. Even though I am retired, you may still see me subbing your favorite fitness class!
MARION EBERLEIN I am confident to say that I genuinely care about my clients. There is nothing more important to me than helping someone going through an experience that makes them more happy, confident and strong. I want to be there
for those who want to bring about change. I want to help them discover the benefits of training, fitness and wellbeing that helped me to become the person I am today. I am here to guide them every step of the way!
RONNA LEE WRIGHT I am a BCRPA Supervisor of Fitness leaders, Group Fitness Instructor, with specialties in Older Adult, Pre and Post Natal Fitness, Weight Training and Zumba. I teach a wide variety of classes, for all ages and abilities, through the Fitness, Specialized Rec., and Child/Youth Departments.

FITNESS Staff SUE BENNETT I am here to help you with those goals.
building on an existing fitness regime, or fine tuning for that competitive edge. Whatever your needs are, I would like to help.
The way to a healthier body is to change some habits that keep you from attaining your full potential – by incorporating some type of easy to learn and effective exercise that works for you. I can help you with getting started, getting back into the game,
Together we will set up Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time oriented (SMART) goals. I believe fitness training can be exciting, rewarding and FUN! And, most of all I believe the training must fit into your life, not fitting your life into your training.
Are you wanting to change your lifestyle and achieve a healthier you?
JENNIFER COLONGIOLI I’m a BCRPA certified Group Fitness instructor, weight trainer & personal trainer, with designation as a Supervisor of fitness leaders, and the Fitness Crew Leader for the City of Campbell River. I have a passion for fitness, and I look forward to it everyday. I love making people sweat, and pushing their limits. I can teach you how to get more bang for your buck with fun, functional, and focussed exercises. If you don’t have time to make it to a class of mine, you can try out
the weight room with a group session, or a one-onone. What is your motivation? Do you want to build aerobic power, reduce body fat, build stronger bones and muscles, or boost your energy maybe? We need to create a challenge to get a change in the body, and I’d love to help you find the challenge that works for you.
CINDY LEECH I am a Certified Personal Trainer, Fitness instructor and also a 500 hour Yoga Instructor. Although I have always loved fitness, my fitness career started over 15 years ago, recognizing my passion to help people feel better

FITNESS Court Sports
Sportsplex Public Raquetball, Squash and Wallyball Courts. Racquetball and Squash, what is the difference? Racquetball and squash are racquet sports played indoors in closed courts. Both sports require agility, speed, coordination, and quick movements; and can be played by singles or doubles. How they differ is their rules, court size, and equipment. Squash balls are smaller than racquetballs, and squash racquets are longer than racquetball racquets.
No Racquet? No Problem! Racquets and balls are available for rent. One item for $1; or $2 for everything you need.
What is Wallyball?
Protect Your Eyes!
This sport adds a whole new dimension to the game of Volleyball. Wallyball is basically volleyball played in a racquetball court, and the walls are used to bounce and strategically place the ball.
It is mandatory for youth players, age 18 and under, to wear goggles when they play squash or racquetball.
All court rentals have reduced rates Mon - Fri from 6am-2:45pm

Youth 3 on 3 Spring Hockey League
3 on 3 hockey is an exciting fast-paced game that is played with three skaters and one goalie on the ice at a time. This is a fun alternative to traditional 5 on 5 hockey which allows all players, even those of varying ability, to be involved in the play making and scoring. Many of the rules are the same as traditional hockey with a few exceptions to speed up the game like - no icing, nonstop play and penalty shots for penalties. Register for one of four teams (9-12 skaters and 1-2 goalies per team) and play (2) 1-hour games per week. Teams, game schedules and jerseys will be made available at the first session. when:
