OCTOBER 2019

Five Ways to support small Business During small Business month anD every Day aFter! 3) Pledge to Check Local First There are many internet business giants in our day to day life that offer all the products with a click of a button. Though, if you really want to support small business, it all starts with making a pact with yourself. Yes, stainless steel straws can be available on a huge selling site online, but I can guarantee that there is someone local who can provide the same item to you, if not better quality. Go with the saying “with every purchase you make at a small business, the owner does a little happy dance,” now I know you won’t get that from the online business giants.

1) Attend Local Events Attending local events does more than just bring community together. It provides a platform for artisanal local vendors to showcase their goods, local entertainment to demonstrate talent, and even local businesses who sponsor the event; a spotlight in getting their brand out. 2) Share local Promotions Social Media, Email Blasts, and good old traditional posters and newspaper articles, are all platforms that allow small businesses to get their name out into the community. As a small business, marketing dollars can be limited; therefore what they put out really needs to stand out. You, a supporter of small business, can help those marketing dollars go the extra mile, with a quick share, click, like, or friend you tell. Share those local promotions, the more word gets out the more impact you have in supporting small business.

4) Be a local Tourist When a day off comes around, the first question that comes up is “What to do?” To support local and small business, try being a tourist in your own town. Have you ever stand up paddle boarded or kayaked all of Hayward Lake? Because there are local businesses that will help you do so. Have you checked out Mission’s historical roots at one of the many places that showcase our story? From enjoying an afternoon riding horses, to checking out historical sites of Canada, you can do that here. Fun, and close to home but more importantly, that means you’re “Day off Dollars” stay in your community. 5) Give them Stars Reviews, reviews and more reviews. In a world that mainly functions off of the ease of digital access, positive reviews on local and small businesses carry considerable weight. Consumers can easily find multiple options for an item or service on the search web, but what creates those options to stand out is the reviews that they have received from their adoring customers. I encourage you to always remember the following; when you feel a business went or is above and beyond your expectations do one thing… 1) shout it from the rooftop in digital mediums and vocal.
