It is with great enthusiasm that Armstrong opens its doors to celebrate BC’s premiere agricultural tradition. All ages will enjoy the parade, competitions, interactive displays, the spectacular rodeo, and the down home charm of both the fair and our community. An entire year goes into preparing for the annual IPE and it couldn’t be possible without the dedication of the volunteers, organizers, residents, businesses, and societies of all kinds. Welcome to the 120th Interior Provincial Exhibition and Stampede. On behalf of the Board of Directors, it is with great pleasure that I extend a welcome to the 120th year of the Interior Provincial Exhibition.
2019 marks 120 years of the Armstrong Fair and the year of the celebration of the Division of the light horse. What could be a more fitting Division to celebrate 120 years. The horse was first domesticated over 6,000 years ago. They are believed to have been domesticated widespread by 3000 BC. They were easily trained, giving mobility and freedom to the rider and were largely instrumental in the expansion of humanity. No other animal, except the dog, has offered the friendship and the pride of ownership as the horse. We hauled
the horse across oceans and rode them across continents. They carried our ancestors, men, women and children through the ages of both war and peace. They have survived the innovations and machinery designed to replace them and today still hold the same place in our hearts as in long ago. 120 years ago, the citizens of Spallumcheen, Armstrong and the North Okanagan attended the Fair with horse drawn wagons and on horseback. At the Fair the light horse was an animal of personal pride,
exhibited and judged over the years in competitions of racing, jumping and horsemanship and remains so today. The Light Horse Division today is the largest Division in the Fair running from early morning until late in the evening each day. The fair opens August 28th so saddle your horse and come to enjoy the greatest agricultural fair in British Columbia, the 120th of the Interior Provincial Exhibition and Stampede. paces of an obstacle course. (Kind of what it would be like on the ranch). We are so pleased to have AcroBark at the fair this year. This is where the President’s Choice SuperDogs team up with some of the best acrobatics from Canada. This is sure to be an interactive theatrical experience you won’t soon forget! Visually exciting and wildly entertaining, AcroBark is a family-friendly show that celebrates the relationship between people and dogs in a whole new way! Agriculture will always be the focus of our fair. You may want to come to the fair on multiple days to take in all the Agriculture shows during the fair. Beef, Dairy, Swine, Rabbits, Poultry, Goats and the list goes on. Don’t forget to come and view your family and friends’ entries in our Exhibit Hall
at NorVal Arena. You will see some of the largest pumpkins, photos, hobbies, quilts, field & seeds, vegetables, fruit, floral, baking and Canning and home brewing of beer, wine and liqueurs. Of course, we will have all your favourite fair food, midway rides and marketplace vendors. If you feel like kicking up your heels get your tickets to the Barn Dance (19+) for the Friday or Saturday night after the rodeo. Oh yeah, we have rodeo entertainment each night with the Finning Pro Rodeo Tour Finals on Sunday. Get your tickets to the rodeo early to avoid disappointment when we sell out on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. We are looking forward to hosting you at the 120th Interior Provincial Exhibition! FINNING CANADA PRO RODEO TOUR Each evening starting at 6:45 with the West Coast Thunder Drill Team followed by rodeo action with the Finning Canada Pro Tour Finals Shootout Finals on Sunday.
During the Fair, August 28 - Sept. 1st, Rodeo Tickets are sold at the IPE Office, online and from 2 pm - 8 pm on the fairgrounds at the Rodeo Ticket office by the grandstands. Please go online to www.armstrongipe.com to order your tickets today. Professional rodeo action consists of two types of competitions - roughstock events and timed events and an all-around cowboy crown. In the roughstock events bareback riding, saddle bronc riding and bull riding a contestant’s score is equally dependent upon his performance and the animal’s performance. To earn a qualified score, the cowboy, while using only one hand, must stay aboard a bucking horse or bull for eight seconds. If the rider touches the animal, himself or any of his equipment with his free hand, he is disqualified. In
saddle bronc and bareback riding, a cowboy must “mark out” his horse; that is, he must exit the chute with his spurs set above the horse’s shoulders and hold them there until the horse’s front feet hit the ground after the initial jump out of the chute. Failing to do so results in disqualification. During the regular season, two judges each score a cowboy’s qualified ride by awarding 0 to 25 points for the rider’s performance and 0 to 25 points for the animal’s effort. The judges’ scores are then combined to determine the contestant’s score. A perfect

Miniature Chuckwagon racing started in 1998 with 4 wagons and 3 shows throughout the year. Now they have expanded all over Alberta, into British Columbia. They now entertain 15+ shows a year with up to 14 wagons. The IPE is one of their favourites!

Camping and Parking Need a place to stay during the fair? Prefer the convenience and peace of mind of a hotel? Many local hotels offer pre-arranged packages for people coming to experience the fun at the IPE Exhibition and Stampede.
Camping – Stay Right in the Action for only $25 a night
We do have lots of DRY camping available at the IPE on a first come first served basis, meaning that we do not accept reservations. We have two large fields that we utilize that are adjacent to either end of our fairgrounds. We have no hook-ups; however, we do have porta-potties in the camping area as well as full shower facilities available on the fairgrounds. (You need to purchase gate admission to access the fairgrounds).
In this campground we have a shuttle service that takes you from your campsite to Gate 2 and will pick you up at the gates and return you to your campsite. We do allow tenting as well. NO OPEN FIRES. You must also abide by the local fire restrictions. Rodeo Entertainment - Full Throttle Trick Riders Shelby Pierson Shelby lives on a ranch outside of Wardlow, Alberta. Some of Shelby’s biggest accomplishment’s include being crowned the 3 Time Canadian Trick Riding Champion of Canada and recently travelling to Australia, where she was named the 2015 Australian Trick Riding Champion. Shelby’s best known for her unique and quick style of vaulting, which is recognized at rodeos across North America.have received the Bill Kehler Memorial award on two separate occasions during his intercollegiate career and in 2011 and 2012 received the industry’s top honour by being named the CPRA’s Announcer of the Year.
Piper Yule Eight year old Piper Yule is the best in the world for her age. She has won many Canadian and US Titles in the peewee division for 12 years and younger. “She likes to go really fast,” said her mother Kelsey Yule, whose family farms near Wardlow, AB. Growing up on a working ranch, Piper was riding horses soon after she learned how to walk. “Our community events are horse focused, so it’s really second nature, “ Kelsey said. “She’s really confident and just kind of a little horseman.” Piper’s natural abilities, along with her training and confidence, shines through at every competition and performance. Piper gets the glory, but one of the keys to great trick riding is having a solid horse.

Our main Will Call to pick up tickets (including gate, vendor and rodeo) is at the Main IPE office (log building across from Gate 2 on Wood Ave).
We have designated our grounds as non-smoking of any type and no vaping. If you would like to smoke a tobacco cigarette or vape please go to one of the gates and use the cigarette receptacle positioned there for your convenience. Lost and found articles may be dropped off or recovered at the IPE Office – 3010 Wood Avenue or the Info Booth at Gate 1 during the fair. The IPE telephone number is 250-546-9406. The nursing station is in Hassen Arena and NorVal Arena. Changing tables are located inside Hassen Arena restrooms, the Poultry Building Washrooms and the New Washroom Stations located by Gate 2.
