Do all mortgages contain the same conditions? No! Here are a few questions to ask you lender: 1. Is the mortgage rate variable or fixed? 2. Can I prepay amounts, or is there a penalty for early repayment? 3. Can I transfer the mortgage balance to another property without penalty? 4. Can the mortgage be assumed by a subsequent owner? 5. Are there any built in terms allowing me to miss a payment or two? 6. What happens if I can’t pay for a few months? 7. What are the fees I must pay (application fee, appraisal, lender mortgage insurance, etc.) Your mortgage document will be several pages long. Be sure to read and understand all of the terms and conditions before you sign.
