This 10 kilometre course down the KVR trail takes participants to local breweries along the way. Runners finish at the Kettle Valley Station Pub courtyard for live music, beer and great eats. All money raised at the June 8 event are donated to a not-for-profit society that supports local youth - The Youth Outdoor Recreation Society.

The 71st annual Cherry Fiesta and Canada Day celebration on July 1 in Osoyoos includes a pancake breakfast, entertainment, cherry pie eating contest, parade and finishes with one of the largest fireworks display in Canada.
PENTICTON RIBFEST
While out and about celebrating Canada Day festivities the Penticton Ribfest, presented by the Rotary Club of Penticton, is the perfect place to grab some top-notch eats. From June 28 to July 1 Okanagan Lake Park will come alive with the smell of ribs with a rib cook-off between four champion barbecue teams from across Canada, live music, a kids zone and a beverage garden.

On July 5-6 Penticton is set to be full of the sights and sounds of Scotland. All pipers, drummers, dancers, athletes and fans of Scottish culture can come on down to King’s Park for the Highland Games featuring the famed caber toss the stone put and the Scottish hammer throw. Canada’s only hot pepper festival, the Similkameen Sizzle in Keremeos, will test your taste buds. Celebrating 15 years in the Okanagan Valley, the spicy festival is held Sept. 21.
FREAK’N FARMER
A gruelling adventure race that takes athletes through lush fields and vineyards, wild grasslands, mountains all while completing an obstacle course at Covert Farms in Oliver that re-creates the tough jobs that are required on a working farm. Come as a participant or a spectator for
a day of fun, adventure, a farm to table organic feast, live music and Okanagan wine and beer. This event will be held on Sept. 21, 2019. For more information visit covertfarms.ca.
FESTIVAL OF THE GRAPE
If there is one thing the Okanagan Valley is known for, it’s wine. So who better to put on a celebration of all things grape than the Okanagan, with a parade of wineries, wine tastings from over 50 Okanagan wineries, a grape stomping competition, live entertainment, 60 trade vendors, 15 food vendors, an indoor art show, a petting zoo and kids activities there will be no shortage of things to do at the Oliver Community Centre. Free admission for kids under 19 and free parking make it easy to come celebrate the grape on Oct. 6, 2019.

OKANAGAN FEST OF ALE
Established in 1996, the Okanagan Fest of Ale is one of the largest and longest running annual beer festivals in the Pacific Northwest. The consumer craft beer and cider tasting event is run by a non-profit to support charitable organizations within the Regional District of the Okanagan -Similkameen. With 5,500 seats there’s no shortage of world-class entertainment to take in at the South Okanagan Events Centre and the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre. Home of the Penticton Vees of the British Columbia Hockey league the SOEC also hosts some of the best entertainment in the world including Gucci Mane (May 28), Ghost with Nothing More (Sept. 21), Cheech & Chong (Oct. 9) and Dallas Smith and Dean Brody (Oct. 25).
SUN AND SAND No matter the season, Penticton is an outdoor enthusiast’s playground, especially true in the summertime, when the parks and beaches come alive with locals and tourists alike. In 2017, Expedia named Penticton as one of the Top 34 most breathtaking places in North America because of its “wine, vines and sandy shores.” SKAHA BEACH
Beautiful red sand beach runs from one side of the lake to the other, great for sunbathing, wading or swimming in the warm water of the smaller of our two lakes. The beach is backed up by a boardwalk following the entire beachfront, passing by a concession if you are hungry for a snack and assorted vendors. Skaha is home to tennis and beach volleyball courts, a baseball diamond, basketball hoops and a place to play road hockey. Or, how about a gym that boasts a spectacular view? The Skaha Lake Fitness Park has a variety of outdoor gym equipment that is suitable for a variety of workouts from light stretching to cardio to strength conditioning.
SUDBURY BEACH
Just west of Skaha Beach is one of the prime kitesurfing locations in the valley. The area has its own parking lot and ice cream stand.
For the kids, there’s a water park and playground with a pond where ducks hang out. The region also boasts large grassy areas with lots of shade-providing trees and picnic benches.

SUN AND SAND OKANAGAN LAKE
Bordered by a long beach, running along lakeshore drive, with a boardwalk that is perfect for strolling and people watching from the many benches that dot its length. The boardwalk stretches between two Penticton icons the historic SS Sicamous, permanently docked at the west end of the beach is not only a beautiful sight but a floating museum recreating the days when steam travel was king in the valley. At the other end of the boardwalk is another icon, the giant Peach concession in Rotary Park, which features grassy areas perfect for relaxing and enjoying the spectacular lake views. There are also rental outfits to take out a jet ski or other water sport device. Want to take to the skies? Try out parasailing, possible on Okanagan Lake. The Wibit Waterpark a floating aquatic playground moored just offshore at the west end of the beach.
DOG BEACHES
At Okanagan Lake Park beach you will find a fenced in area for your four-legged friend, the other dog beach is located on Eastside Road. There are three offleash areas in the city dedicated to giving dogs room to play too. The City Yards dog park is located on Dartmouth Road by the old SPCA dog run and is a fullyfenced area. At the top of Penticton Avenue behind the water treatment plant is a partially fenced area that can be accessed via the pathway along Penticton Creek. The third park is Ellis Creek Park located at Industrial Place.
OKANAGAN RIVER CHANNEL
You could just drive from one lake to the other, or you could take a more relaxed route with a lazy drift down the Okanagan River Channel. Put on your sunscreen, get your friends or family together, and grab an inner tube, then sit back for the three-hour float down the channel south from Okanagan Lake to Skaha Lake. Bring your own tube or rent one from Coyote Cruises at the top of the channel.

Established in 2000, the Cannery Brewing Company offers patrons a pint, a flight and some small bites, and you can always refill your 1.89-litre refillable jug known as a “growler.” Check out the live music every Sunday, and a variety of other events throughout the season.
The Tin Whistle is a small micro brewery located in Penticton and was founded in 1995. They brew beers that they like, and they hope that you’ll like them too. Tin Whistle now has 10 types of beer, and at any given time they may have an additional one or two seasonals.

MARKETS Often celebrated as the best markets in B.C., the Penticton Farmers’ Market and Downtown Community Market draw in thousands over the course of the summer.
The Farmers’ Market has about 50 annual members and 30 casual members that rotate throughout the market, depending on the week.
The community market is now in its 11th year in Penticton and boasts 200 vendors. “We are very proud of this market’s ability to draw between 5,000 and 8,000 people downtown on long weekends during the high season. Hands down we’re the premier outdoor market in the Okanagan, and with more than 200 vendors each week, we’re likely the largest in British Columbia,” said Lynn Allin, Downtown Penticton Association executive director.
The Farmers’ Market has plenty of vendors including Forbes Family Farm, which won the Farmers’ Market Vendor of the Year award at the BC Farmers’ Market Awards
The market is held on the 200 and 300 block of Main Street, on Front Street and on Backstreet Boulevard. It will be held each Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. until Sept. 28.
Forbes Farm has been a certified organic organic farmer for 21 years. Brothers, Gord and Steve Forbes are second generation farmers and started their organic journey when his mother got a breast cancer diagnosis. “It’s about soil health and keeping the land able to produce for the next generation,” he said.
The Downtown Community Market includes items from local crafters, artists and artisans. “The quality and variety of our market vendors, businesses and musical entertainment showcases the best products, talent and merchandise available locally and across the Okanagan,” said Allin.
The Forbes were noted for their unique connection to their customers, many of whom they know by name, and their array of fresh fruits, herbs and vegetables — including a basil bar, allowing market-goers to smell different varieties of basil.
The shift into market season also brings about an important change to parking along Main and Front Streets, Westminster Avenue and Backstreet Boulevard. Penticton’s Saturday 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. parking restrictions go into effect on May 1 and are enforced and vehicles may be towed away. A free bike valet service will be provided to encourage people to cycle to and from the markets. The service is provided by the Penticton and Area Cycling Association.
The Penticton Farmers’ Market takes place in the 100 block on Main Street on Saturday’s. Road closures are in effect from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. to allow vendors to set up and dismantle their booths.

ELVIS FESTIVAL The Penticton Elvis Society is celebrating 18 years of the Penticton Pacific Northwest Elvis Festival. Bringing fans from all over the world to the holiday destination that is Penticton to celebrate the life and music of the King of Rock ’n’ Roll. The festival, taking place June 27 to 30, is celebrating their 18th anniversary and features headliner tribute acts, an Elvis tribute artist competition and more. Dozens of tribute artists take to outdoor stages along with special guests and “friends of Elvis.” The weekend journeys through the list of hits in Presley’s musical library, remembering the stories and the many lives touched by the musical legend.
Take in the beautiful Okanagan Lake Park views during the opening ceremonies leading into tribute artist competitions and local talent. Cap off the weekend with the headliner show at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre. This year the headliners are Dwight Icenhower and Penticton’s own Adam Fitzpatrick. Icenhower has placed first over 65 times in contests around the world. In 2015, he became the only Elvis Tribute Artist in history to ever win four World Championship “First Place” titles consecutively during Memphis’ Elvis Week, before going on to win the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest in 2016.
Adam Fitzpatrick first entered into a competition as an Elvis Tribute Artist in 2008, in his hometown of Penticton, where he took home the top amateur title. That first win ignited the competitive spirit in Fitzpatrick, and he would continue to hone his craft, earning his first professional title in 2012 in Pala, California. He didn’t stop there, picking up more titles, including a 2013 Penticton first place finish, and the highest point of his career so far, a First Runner-Up prize at the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest.
Always a fan favourite, the Sunday breakfast and gospel show packs Okanagan Lake Park. Bring your lawn chair and be prepared to sing along to your favourite songs. This morning event is not about competition, rather about love for some of the finest music Elvis recorded in his lifetime. The show raises money for a local charity. This year the Penticton Elvis Festival Sunday show supports Penticton Hospice with a teddy bear toss in front of the stage. The competition finals wrap up the weekend at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre followed by an after-party at the Penticton Lakeside Resort ballroom. NARAMATA
Just 15 minutes north of Penticton is this world of wine along the famed Naramata Bench, which offers a micro-climate perfect for growing aromatic white wines like Gewürztraminer, Viognier and many more. Visitors will travel the Naramata Bench and see the numerous wineries dotting the drive, passing breathtaking views of the valley and Okanagan Lake. Further along, the road turns west and the tiny community of Naramata appears. Country roads in the area are home to local artisans. Manitou Park on the south end of the village draws summer bathers and boaters daily.
OKANAGAN FALLS
Just a 15-minute drive south from Penticton, Okanagan Falls is a charming unincorporated community. Named after the falls once located where Skaha Lake empties into the Okanagan River, this area is a friendly spot with some great wineries, parks and trails to explore. Within walking distance from the downtown are Christie Memorial Park, which is known for its swimming, fishing, paddling and picnics; Kenyon Park is home to day camps and recreational programs; and peaceful Lion’s Gardens offers a park-like setting with pathways and a pond — the perfect place for a quiet, picturesque walk. All three of these parks are located on the shore of Skaha Lake. Possibly the best ice cream parlour in the Okanagan is Tickleberry’s. Staying on Highway 97, just half an hour down the road lies Oliver — an area every self-respecting wine connoisseur should visit. With a number of award-winning wineries and vineyards, Oliver boasts itself the “wine capital of Canada,” and the Golden Mile, which became the first sub-designated viticultural area of the Okanagan Valley in 2014.

Travel west an hour west along Highway 3 to reach Keremeos. History buffs should check out the Grist Mill and seekers of the wild can find it in nearby Cathedral Provincial Park. In nearby Hedley, those with a thirst for history and no fear of heights can tour the semi-restored Mascot Gold Mines — located nearly 1,000 metres above the town.

PEACH FESTIVAL THE PENTICTON PEACH FESTIVAL BRINGS CANADIAN AND TALENT TO PENTICTON On Aug. 7, the five-day festival kicks off with Canadian superstars the Crash Test Dummies on the Peter Bros. Construction stage. The Phonix Show Band opens for the Crash Test Dummies. “This is the first time the Crash Test Dummies have played the Penticton Peach Festival and, in fact, the first time they have played in the Okanagan,” said Don Kendall, president of the Penticton Peach Festival. “They are one of the most successful groups in Canadian music and touring again after a multi-year hiatus. Make sure you plan to come early for what is sure to be a jam-packed Okanagan Lake Park.” On Aug. 8, country comes to Peachfest, with Black Whiskey Rebellion opening for Canadian Country group Emerson Drive. With numerous awards backing them, they are sure to deliver an incredible performance. The night is sponsored by the Tim Hortons. Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts are the headliners for Aug. 9. “Barney still tours as a solo artist and with a couple other bands. However, the Legendary Hearts only get back together a couple times per year and we are thrilled to have them playing Peach Festival,” said Peachfest entertainment director Bill Kolter. Opening for Bentall is another music legend, Ben Waters, a pianist who has performed at local sold-out shows at the Dream Cafe, in his last year of touring. Make sure you wear your dancing shoes, because the Peachfest has warned that you’ll be up and out your seats long after the show is over. “I absolutely love this town. It’s absolutely fantastic and this festival is going to be awesome,” said Waters.
Returning to the skies of Penticton are the Snowbirds, the Canadian Armed Forces parachute team the Skyhawks, and the high-flying Mega Motocross show. The Shiela Bishop Slo-Pitch Tournament, the Peach Bin Races, the Pentown Throwdown skateboard and BMX competition, Skaha Lake Ultra Swim and more keep every single day of the festival packed with excitement. Oliver will have its 16th annual Wine Capital of Canada Triathlon event on June 1, hosted by Dynamic Race Events. The event features both Sprint and Standard distance races. The Sprint is a 750-m swim in Tucelnuit Lake, an 18 km bike and a 5 km run. The Standard distance race is a 1,500 m swim, 40 km bike and a 10 km run that also includes a relay division. June 2 Celebrating its 16th year, the race is a two km swim, 94 km bike and 21 km run that starts with a two-loop swim and a stunning bike course out Black Sage Rd and past Oliver wineries that finishes with a two-loop run in residential neighbourhoods along the Okanagan River. The finish line and post-race lunch and awards are held at Rotary Beach. Returning this year to the event is an Aquabike race.
OKANAGAN SUPER SPRINTS
The Okanagan Super Sprints (June 14 and 15) hit the waters of Skaha Lake. The 250-metre race pits head-to-head matchups and allows teams to try different race-specific tactics. Those watching must pay close attention as it takes the boats just over a minute to finish. The event is also a fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy Canada as teams are challenged to see who can bring in the most money. The 37th annual Peach Classic Triathlon now the oldest operating triathlon in British Columbia, features an Olympic and Sprint distance races. The Olympic distance is a 1.5 km swim, 40 km bike ride and 10 km run. The sprint features a 750 m swim, 20 km bike and 5 km run. The Start/Finish is at Okanagan Lake near the Peach on the Beach and includes the beautiful benches along Naramata Road. DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL
The Penticton Dragon Boat Festival, held over two days on the second weekend in September, is entering its 18th year. The racing happens on 11 km long Skaha Lake.
