It’s these two things that make the Campbell River area the best. Great scenery, wonderful places, great things to do and wonderful people to do them with. Campbell River enjoys a fabulous lifestyle with abundant fishing, boating, hiking, camping, music, culture, fantastic facilities in which to tie the knot, celebrate an anniversary or get your kids involved in a community. And, of course, it’s the people who make all these things happen, whether through great service or simply good advice. Campbell River’s people and places are second to none. BEST BEACH FOR SWIMMING: The sandy beaches at Miracle Beach Provincial Park and Saratoga Beach are sensational places to soak up the sun, play in the sand and take a refreshing dip in the water. But as great as those two finalists for Best Beach for Swimming are, they have to take a back seat to McIvor Lake and its sundrenched, accessible, family-friendly, freshwater beach. With plenty of room for a picnic and a splash as well as kilometres of lake to explore by boat, McIvor Lake received the most votes in this category, by far. BEST CITY PROJECT WORTH THE WAIT: They may have been a long time coming but…they’re worth the wait. And no single project deserves that title more than the Big Rock Boat Launch! Now that the facility is up and running, it’s already becoming a popular component of our waterfront and a useful facility for the boating public – residents and tourists alike. The Sea Walk completion is another facility that makes Campbell River a great place to live and that’s why it is one of our finalists in this category. Rounding out the finalists is food trucks. Interestingly, all three of these items could actually go together. A food truck patrolling the Sea Walk and stopping in at the boat launch! Terrific! GREATEST PLACE TO WORK: Okay, we all need to get our resume into Eden Street Salon & Day Spa because they’re the winner of the Greatest Place to Work. What’s more is they won in four other Reader’s Choice categories as well – Best Hair Salon, Best Place to Get a Manicure, Best Place to Get a Pedicure, and Best Spa! But that’s not to say our finalists aren’t fantastic places to earn living too – the North Island Hospital, Campbell River campus; Marine Harvest Canada and the City of Campbell River.

If you’re looking for something good to eat and drink you can’t go wrong in Campbell River. This is the place to be for good food. Top chefs, awesome recipes and great atmosphere are on offer in our local culinary scene. And the range of foods nominated proves that Campbell River is a foodie’s paradise. This is one of the biggest Readers’ Choice categories and the range of sub-categories illustrates the many ways to feast in Campbell River. Hmmm, where to start? BEST BREAKFAST/BRUNCH: Why not start with the most important meal of the day? These establishments prove that not only is it the most important meal, it’s the most delicious! The winning restaurant in this category is Ideal Café. Just cross the bridge into North Campbell River and get yourself a hearty breakfast served by smiling staff. Once you’ve sampled their breakfast, you could do yourself a favour eating breakfast at our two finalists as well: Dolphins Resort and Whistlin’ Waffle. That’s the way to start the day. BEST BAKERY: Hmmm, baked goods. The winner in this category is Daves’ Bakery & Deli where the proprieters – both named Dave – take baking to a fine art. They are expanding to a new location on the Island Highway because they’re so popular they’ve outgrown their old one. The ovens of Steiner Bakery produce heavenly creations as well and that’s why they’ve been named a finalist in this category along with the ever-popular Perks Donuts. All three of these guys also were finalists or winners in the BEST DOUGHNUT category with Perks winning that one. BEST PATIO FOR DINING: So what if you just want to spend a lovely evening dining outdoors and being served great food? Well, it appears that SoCal restaurant & Lounge is the place to go because it won this category. And, of course, you can’t go wrong with the two finalists: Quay West Kitchen (Casual Dining) and Catering Ltd. and Painter’s Lodge. Food with a view!
