The Brant Wildlife Festival celebrates nature, and particularly the Brant geese as they rest and feed on the shores of Parksville Qualicum Beach. The festival takes place in March and April, and involves nature tours, bird watching expeditions and more.

Paleontology Exhibit as well as the Social History of the town of Qualicum Beach and area. Oral history videos let visitors discover what Qualicum Beach was like when it was a retreat for the rich and famous, such as Bob Hope and the King of Siam. Just steps from downtown Qualicum Beach is the town’s playground, swimming pool, skate park, BMX track, sports fields, and off-leash dog walking trails. Join the locals and walk the waterfront promenade. It is lined with picnic tables and shade trees, and there is a wash/change room, and lots of parking.

South and west of Parksville is Arrowsmith Coombs Country, named after towering Mount Arrowsmith. The mountain is partially responsible for the enviable micro-climate surrounding Parksville Qualicum Beach. Walk or ride between Coombs and Parksville on the new Rail Trail! Arrowsmith Coombs Country is a collection of rural communities including Coombs, Errington, Hilliers, Meadowood and Whiskey Creek. Learn about the wild animals of the region at Errington’s North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre that is now open year-round. Peruse local produce and crafts at the Errington Farmer’s Market at the Community Park, next to the War Memorial Hall on Errington Road. This summer market also has live local music. Tamer animals can be found, and even petted, a bit further down the road at Tiger Lily Farm, where there are seasonal events, pony rides and more. Hamilton Hobby Farm in Coombs also has a petting farm, wagon rides and a gift shop. Nanoose Bay has some incredible day hikes, among towering old growth fir and twisted red arbutus trees. Nanoose Bay is located at the South end of the Parksville Qualicum Beach region. The highlights of the Highway 19 route through Nanoose Bay include the Arbutus Meadows Event and Equestrian Centre and the world’s tallest gnome (7.91m), now recognized by The Guinness Book of World Records. If you want to experience all Nanoose Bay has to offer, take the scenic route on Northwest Bay Road through the heart of the community. Winding through the area is Nile Creek, which has a small hatchery where volunteers have helped restore pink salmon to record numbers. Today Nile Creek is known as a world-class fly-fishing destination. FROM VICTORIA Drive north on Highway 1 to Nanaimo, just south of Nanaimo, take the exit for Highway 19 and the North Island. Bus connections are available from downtown. FROM VANCOUVER AND THE FRASER VALLEY Take the Lion’s Gate or 2nd Narrows Bridge across Burrard Inlet, then follow the signs to Horseshoe Bay and take the BC Ferry to Nanaimo. Exit the ferry and keep to the 2 right lanes, then take Highway 19 North towards Parksville. FROM VANCOUVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AND SOUTH VANCOUVER Take Highway 10 and 99, head to the BC Ferry terminal in Tsawwassen and catch the ferry to Duke Point (south Nanaimo). Head north on Highway 1 and then exit to Highway 19 and Parksville. FROM SEATTLE Head north on I-5 and cross the border at Blaine. Continue north on Highway 99 then take the exit for Tsawwassen and the ferries. Take the ferry to Nanaimo (Duke Point). Head north on Highway 1 and then exit to Highway 19 and Parksville. BY AIR Travellers can land at the Qualicum Beach Airport with KD Air and Orca Airways from YVR’s South Terminal. Connecting flights from Vancouver International also fly into the neighbouring Nanaimo Airport and Comox Valley Airport. Harbour Air Seaplanes and Helijet offer flights from downtown Vancouver to downtown Nanaimo. Currently both WestJet and Air Canada fly from Calgary into the Nanaimo Airport twice a day. Both airlines now fly from Vancouver to Nanaimo daily. Air Canada will begin flying from Nanaimo Airport to Toronto effective June 21, 2018. Four Air Canada Rouge flights are scheduled per week until Oct. 8, 2018. FROM COMOX VALLEY Take either the scenic coastal Oceanside Route 19A south from Courtenay, or the four-lane Inland Island Highway 19 south. 61
