The two occupants were in the apartment when the fire broke out and tried to put the fire out, Doherty said, “but the fire was too great and they exited the building.” The alarm system, “operated as it should,” Doherty said, and the rest of the building was evacuated, as well. No injuries were sustained in the fire, but a few residents were treated for smoke inhalation issues, and many are currently displaced.
