It’s the announcement every skier in Kimberley has been waiting for — the Kimberley Alpine Resort is opening early. Scheduled for an opening day of December 12, KAR announced over the weekend that they would open for a preview weekend on December 5 and 6, 2015. With a few timely dumps of snow and optimum conditions for snow-making, it’s a go, says area manager Ted Funston. “We are excited to have had such a strong start to the winter in Kimberley, and look forward to welcoming back up our loyal skiers and riders to experience the great snow. We’ve received about 1.3 meters of snowfall up top year-

The Kimberley Alpine Resort will open early for a preview weekend starting Saturday, Dec. 5. to-date, and due to the hard work of our summer grooming and winter track-packing crews many runs up on the Easter Chair are skiing well and ready to go! We are looking forward
to seeing everyone up here on December 5th.” “El Niño has performed and we’re seeing the snowy benefits of some of the deepest snowfall to date along the Powder Highway of
British Columbia. This is the place to be this winter,” says Powder Matt Mosteller, noted Ski Blogger and Resorts of the Canadian Rockies VP of Marketing. Not all the runs will
be open, but a lot of terrain will be available. The Resort hopes to have the Easter Chair running, as well as the Quad and the beginner Magic Carpet.
The Salvation Army is gearing up for it’s annual Christmas Kettle campaign with the goal of raising $55,000 that will go towards local programs. Major Kirk Green says the kettles were out this past weekend, but will be manned every day except Sunday, starting after Thursday, Dec. 3rd. Volunteers will man the kettles, which will be collecting donations all the way up to Christmas Eve on Dec. 24. “Every nickel stays local and we use the
Kettle money to fund our Christmas programs—the hampers and the toys and all that kind of thing and any money that is left over gets used throughout the rest of the year,” Green said. Kettles will be set up throughout the month at Superstore, Walmart, SaveOn-Foods, Safeway, Canadian Tire and the Tamarack Mall. If anyone from individuals to groups or organizations are interested in manning a kettle, Green encourages them to contact the Salvation Army at 250-426-3612.
