Served 1942-1946 with the R.C.A.F. 429 Squadron in England and the 417 Squadron in Italy. Frank worked as an “Armorer,” servicing bombs and guns. He helped to keep the planes safe and detonated the unused bombs when the planes returned from their missions.
U.S. Merchant Marine 1943 - 1951. Served in the Atlantic and South Pacific. “Atlantic convoy on tanker, ships lost from daily sub harassment, first action - nervous.”

enry joined the Air Force at 18 in 1942, finished Officer Training and went overseas where he was a navigator on a bomber. He never talked much about the war so it was never really known how many missions he flew and to what extent. He was a peaceful man and the war went against his grain. He married Leota Joyce Phillips on June 30, 1952. She had joined the Forces a year before and left the service when they married. Her friends knew her as Lee Fraser. Remembrance Day was always special to Ernie and he never missed a Legion tribute on November 11th.

Joined the Merchant Navy at the age of 17 in 1947 and served two years. Sadly he had to leave the navy due to his father becoming ill. Edward and his wife Mickey lived in Penticton for 58 years before his passing on March 12th, 2015.

“My dad was from a small fishing village in Newfoundland. He was an Able Bodied Seaman in Her Majesty’s Service (HMS) from 1942 - 1945 (Newfoundland had yet to become a part of Canada). He served mostly in the South Pacific. Dad spent his last two years at the Extended Care Home for Veterans in St. John’s, NL, where he peacefully passed away in April 2014 at the age of 92 years.”

Picture on top right shows Jack (circled) with his crew before leaving on a night time bombing mission to Germany. The bomber in the background is the “LANCASTER,” the largest bomber ever built by the U.K. during WWII. Received 7 medals during his military service.
Served with the Coldstream Guards in England from 1945 to1953 and with the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1957 to 1969.

icture on top right shows two Penticton veterans of WWII taken on Granville Street in Vancouver on VE Day 1945. Both were born in 1924, raised and schooled in Penticton. George Way RCNVR served in the Atlantic and Mediterranean 1943-1945. He died in Seattle at the age of 63. Art Murray Seaforth Highlander (brother of Bill Murray, top picture, and Ross Murray shown on the right) served in Italy 1943-1944 and was seriously wounded in the battle of Ortona, Italy. He recovered in Shaughnessy Military Hospital in Vancouver. Art died in Prince George at the age of 61.

all units and organizations will gather at the Curling Rink parking lot the parade will fall in.
The parade will proceed from the Curling Rink to the Trade and Convention Centre via Power Street.
Please take the opportunity on Remembrance Day to pay tribute to those who served and those still serving their country. The Penticton community is invited to attend the Remembrance Day service at the Penticton Trade and Convention Center starting at 10:30am November 11, 2015. Branch 40 will be open following the Remembrance Day service with lots of activities including music, visitation by pipe bands, etc. Our annual Poppy Campaign will also be underway from November 1 to November 11. Branch members, Air and Army Cadets and the Navy Veterans Association will be out in force handing out poppies and asking for your donations. Last year the Penticton community donated $29,000.00 most of which has gone back into the community in the form of Veterans and dependents health related assistance. Bursaries have been made available for post secondary students with parents or grandparents who have served in the armed forces. Recent veterans have been assisted with education and transition to civilian life programs. Please help us to continue this great work.
