Our Member Connect Program puts you in touch with a Certified Fitness Trainer who will discuss the endless opportunities and programs the Y has to offer and which ones will best suit your individual path to health and wellness. Your appointment may include: ✔ A needs assessment discussion ✔ A basic cardiovascular program ✔ D etermining which Group /Aquatic Fitness Classes are best for you ✔ A circuit training program to get a workout done quickly when time is a factor ✔ B asic strength training to work different muscle groups using a variety of equipment To keep you connected and motivated a Fitness Team Leader will also follow up with you after your initial appointment to book an update and answer any further questions you may have about your program or the Y’s classes and services. Fit Kidz: We have an exciting new policy for parents and their kidz (10-11 year olds): After meeting with one of our Certified Fitness Trainers, parents can work out next to their children on the cardio equipment. During your appointment you will both learn how to use the cardio equipment safely and sign a contract which will outline the policies for kidz in the gym. Kidz will be given a colored shoe tag that must be worn, to identify them while in the facility. NEW: Some of our group fitness classes are kidz (10 years old and up) friendly! Just look for this symbol on our Group Fitness Schedules: * Fit Youth: Youth who are 12 years old may work out in the entire fitness facility once they have had an appointment with one of our Certified Fitness Trainers. Youth will be given a colored shoe tag that must be worn, to identify them while in the facility. Please book your appointment with your trainer at member services.

FITNESS CLASS DESCRIPTIONS Abs & Buns: A variety of exercises designed to tone the areas we all love to work on. Basic Yoga: New to Yoga? This class is for you. Balanced Barre: Hottest new form of exercise. This workout combines balance, agility, and resistance all into a challenging, high-energy, mustic-driven, fun, balanced barre system! Better Bones: Wanting to begin an exercise program and don’t know where to start? This program is for you. Join us for this fun, social interactive workout all based from a chair. This program is also designed for those at risk of osteoporosis and other age-associated diseases. Come and exercise in a safe environment. Boot Camp: This class helps to build confidence, strength and physical stamina. Participants are challenged to push the boundaries of their endurance in order to reach their fitness and health goals. Cardio Combat Bootcamp: An exhilarating total body workout where a fusion of martial arts meets chart-topping music. Improve your cardio ability, strength and power! Cardio Core: Mix it up with fun low impact cardio and core toning exercises for overall abdominal core strength. Cardio Jam: Classes feature funky rhythms set to high-energy international and top 40 beats. It’s easy to do, effective and totally exhilarating. This fun and HOT dance fitness workout will keep you moving and grooving in the calorie burning zone all while you’re sweating and smiling. Easy to follow come check it out! Classes with the * means party vibe and disco ball included. Core Conditioning: Challenge your strength, balance & agility using the stability ball, dumbbells & your body weight. Circuit Class: Maximize results in a minimum amount of time! Resistance training + aerobics + FUN! Held in the circuit room. Cyclefit: : Instructor leads riders through a warm-up, drills with hills, speed play and much more, ending with a cool down. Pre sign up required. Cyclefit & Core: Mix of indoor cycling and an ab workout. Cyclefit & Pump: Fast hard workout; 30 minutes of biking, followed by 30 minutes of full body exercise. Cyclefit & TRX: The challenge blend- 30 spin and 30 TRX: full body suspension strength training. Cyclefit & Yoga: Cardio challenge, then a relaxation experience. Dancercize: A fun way to stay in shape. Learn a variety of basic dance routines as well as exercises for toning. Family Fitness: Sunday fun - 1 hour of a surprise workout (TRX, weights, tabata, spin, Zumba, bands, step, ect.) 7 years and up.

Group Rx RIP: RIP is a 60-minute full body barbell program for men and women of all ages and all fitness levels. Matching movement to music and using traditional strength training patterns, you will be able to learn the program which stays consistent for weeks before progressing to the next program. High Energy Step: For those who love high energy and challenging routines. Not recommended for beginners. HIIT: HIIT is a training idea in which low to moderate intensity intervals are alternated with high intensity intervals. HIIT is considered to be much more effective than normal cardio because the intensity is higher and you are able to increase both your aerobic and anaerobic endurance while burning more fat than ever before. Kettle Bell Circuit: what a great way to swing into an allaround full body workout with some exhilarating music and challenging new moves. Make sure to hold on tight, this workouts going to be a blast. Line Dancing: Challenge the mind and body and have fun. Variety of music. Beginners welcome. Limited Mobility Yoga: This class is geared towards those individuals that have a harder time getting on and off the floor. This is a chair based yoga class. We start with gentle traditional yoga poses to center yourself, improve body awareness and strength. Suitable for all levels of fitness. MFR MYO-FACIA Release: Enjoy a relaxing hour of myo-facia releases using a soft foam roller and small balls to roll out any stressed muscles. Leave feeling lengthened & relaxed. PBS: Posture, Balance and Strength. Keep moving and discover your strength through core exercises. A great class for beginners, seniors and participants that may be doing rehabilitation. Class includes the use of dumbbells, tubing, and balls. Shotokan Karate: Learn a “traditional martial art”. Develop new skills and self confidence in a safe and fun environment that promotes a healthy lifestyle. Different classes for kids and adults. Step Fusion: First part of class will be your traditional step class with some fun choreography. The last portion of class will include some type of strength training. Free weights, bands, sliders, are things you may use. Great class to get your all around workout in, cardio AND strength! Step N Rx: Get the best of both worlds! Step class with the added bonus of some of the new hot tracks from our famous Rx class! After your step, you may work abs and legs, or chest and back, but always something. Come and try this sizzling workout! Stretch for Health: Gentle stretching to improve your flexibility, balance, coordination & body awareness, set to relaxing music. Suitable for all. Strong & Active 40+: A perfect blend of strength training and low impact cardio for the active aging generation.

Tabata: This program can be completed in as little as 4 minute intervals. This high intensity interval training offers more health benefits than traditional cardio exercises. TRX: The TRX Suspension Trainer is a workout system that leverages gravity and your bodyweight to perform hundreds of exercises. You’re in control of how much you want to challenge yourself on each exercise because you can adjust your body position to add or decrease resistance each exercise because you can adjust your body position to add or decrease resistance TRX Bootcamp: TRX will have you working with a suspension training system to strengthen and condition your muscles. Boot camp will have you burning calories and working your cardiovascular system for that complete body challenge. All fitness levels welcome and no experience necessary, we will teach you. Wing Chun Kung Fu: A style of martial arts from southern China that uses superior position and technique, not strength and size, to overcome an opponent. Program focuses on fitness, self-defense, and personal development in an open, cooperative class environment. Appropriate for people of all fitness levels. No previous martial arts experience is required. Yoga: Learn traditional yoga poses, with modifications for all levels. Classes will include a little yoga philosophy, breathing exercises, strengthening poses, stretching poses and relaxation poses. Bring your mat and practice some yoga with us! Yin Yang Yoga: This class is about penetrating deep into connective tissue, expanding flexibility & aiding healing while stimulating the nodes to loosen energetic blockages & increase energy flow. Yoga Stretch: Start with gentle traditional yoga poses to center yourself, improve body awareness and strength. Finish with gentle stretching to relax, improve flexibility and range of motion. Classes may include a brief relaxation/meditation component. Suitable for all levels of fitness. Zumba: We take the “work” out of workout, by mixing low intensity and high intensity moves for an interval style, calorie burning, dance-fitness party. Once the Latin and other world rhythms take over, you’ll see why Zumba fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise. Zumba Gold: Perfect for older adults or beginners who are looking for a modified Zumba® class that recreates the original moves you love at a lower-intensity. This class introduces easyto-follow choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion and coordination. Come ready to sweat, and prepare to leave empowered and feeling strong. Zumba Sentao: This Zumba class combines strength and resistance training with innovative dance moves, using a chair as your dance partner. New to Yoga? This class is for you. Basic yoga is a slower paced practice that is gentle on the entire body. Basic yoga increases your mobility, strength and stamina leaving you feeling more open and at peace. Each class will open with Pranayama (regulation of the breath) to integrate your mind and body for your class and will end in a full body relaxation and a guided meditation.

YIN YOGA

Yin Yoga is a slower paced practice that targets joints, tendons, ligaments and fascia within the body. This style of yoga increases your mobility leaving you feeling more open and at peace. The postures are held for 3-5 minutes to encourage a slow and safe opening of the connective tissues. Yin is the balance of Yang yoga which targets the muscles. YOGA FOR ATHLETES

Strength, endurance, flexibility, balance and mobility are all skills that athletes strive to improve upon in their respective sport. From professionals to amateurs, as well as the weekend warrior, yoga has been shown to benefit those who engage in this 5,000 year old practice on a regular basis. Yoga can be the perfect companion to counteract the effects of overused muscles as it’s primary function is to restore the body to balance and symmetry. Join Charlie Bruce, Certified Yoga Instructor, World Cup Master’s cross-country competitor and former member of the Canadian Age-Group Triathlon Team for this six-week session, designed to prepare your mind, body and spirit for whatever your passion in sport may be. YIN YANG YOGA

Yin is a simple style of yoga to practice, but this doesn’t mean easy! The physical, mental, spiritual, emotional and energetic benefits of yin come from getting into postures and holding them. These are passive holds where you allow gravity to do the work. Yin Yoga is a perfect compliment to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of your muscles.

NEW “DARE TO DANCE”

Movement and rhythm are essential to what it is to be human, and yet, we often feel self-conscious or intimidated when invited to dance. Consider this class an opportunity to get in touch with your “Inner Dancer”, in an atmosphere of playfulness. We will focus on multiple aspects of movement; a Yoga inspired warm up and cool down, as well as explorations of a variety of global dance elements. All we need from you is the number of children that will be taking lessons and their names, ages and swimming level, and we’ll go ahead and create a lesson set for you. We recommend at least 6 swimming lessons for the children to be successful! After each lesson, your group is welcome to a free swim for 30 minutes. The Kamloops Community YMCA-YWCA (Violence Against Women Intervention and Support Services department), is pleased to present the 10TH ANNUAL POWER OF BEING A GIRL CONFERENCE ON OCTOBER 14, 2015. This one-day conference, for girls aged 12 to 14 years old, is designed by girls for girls (in the annual spring workshop: PBG Planning Girls Group) to explore the challenges of growing up, in a fun and empowering way. REFERRAL SERVICE

Finding the right child care option can be a tedious and worrisome task. We assist parents in their search by providing them with information and resources about what they can look for in a quality Child Care facility or home. The referral service will provide a list of child care providers of Licensed Group, Licensed Family and Registered License Not Required childcare services and familiarize parents with their different options and can give advice about quality childcare. The CCRR provides Members of the Child Care Resource and Referral Program benefit from year-round advertisement.

The CCRR’s Toy Lending and Resource Library is a valuable resource for parents, early childhood care and education workers, infant and child development support workers, therapists, teachers, informal caregivers and recreational programmers. There is a large variety of materials that will support children’s social, emotional, physical, language and cognitive development. There are children’s books that cover a wide range of subjects and resource books for adults. Resources include everything from parenting books, child development texts, specialized topics, and thematic resource books to name a few. It’s FREE!

GOOD BEGINNINGS - FAMILY CHILD CARE TRAINING Good Beginnings Family Child Care Training is a 25 hour course that prepares individuals to provide in-home childcare or can be taken to obtain the requirement for Responsible Adult Training for Child Care Providers. The course covers all the essential topics to prepare you for childcare. Topics include health, safety, nutrition, child development, behavioural guidance, emergency preparedness, quality environment, curriculum planning and the business aspects of childcare. R.E.S.T. EDUCATION SERIES Child and Youth Mental Health Clinician and Occupational Therapist will facilitate a three part education series on Regulation of Emotions, Sensation, and Thinking (REST). R.E.S.T. training will provide tools to childcare providers that will help the children in their care to be calmer, more focused and to help them manage everyday emotions and activity level. Childcare providers will learn the basics of self-regulation, how to talk to children about it, sensory based ideas, managing emotions, and relaxation techniques. All 3 sessions must be attended to receive certificate.
