T

he Canadian Forces Snowbirds are returning to Penticton again this year. The world’s most exciting aerobatic team will perform over Okanagan Lake, on the opening day of the Penticton Peach Festival, Wednesday, Aug. 5. Their performance, at 6 p.m., is sponsored by Peters Brothers Construction. The Snowbirds last appeared in Penticton in 2013. Local organizing committee Chairman Fred Trainor said, “We’re thrilled! It takes a lot of work and a lot of money to make this happen. We are fortunate to get them back. We know Penticton is one of their favorite host cities.” Peters Bros. General Manager Rick Selles said, “(Peters Bros. Owner) Dave Kampe is committed to bringing the Snowbirds here, as often as possible, as the kickoff for Peach Festival. We’re excited to welcome them back. They put on a tremendous show.” Don Kendall, president of Peachfest, said, “We couldn’t be happier. Last time they were here, every inch of Okanagan Lake Beach was filled with spectators. What a great addition to Peach Festival.” The Snowbirds will spend three days in Penticton. There will be a public meet-and-greet on Monday, Aug. 3, from 5-6 p.m, at the Lakeside Resort. They are also tentatively scheduled to visit the Peters Bros. Construction main stage, in Okanagan Lake Park, after their performance on Wednesday.

or the first time in two years, Barney Bentall will be on stage with the Legendary Hearts on Wednesday, August 5. Tim Hortons is sponsoring the concert. The last time Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts performed was in 2013, in front of a capacity crowd, at Vancouver’s famed Commodore Ballroom. For more than a decade, they were among the most popular rock groups in Canada. In 1988, “Something to Live For,” became their first top 10 hit. The subsequent selftitled album spawned three hit singles, achieved platinum status and helped the group win a Juno Award. They followed with four more albums, including three which earned gold status. They released 20 singles including: Crime Against Love, Come Back To Me, Do Ya and Life Could Be Worse. Since the group disbanded in 1997, Bentall has worked on a variety of solo projects. And occasionally he gets back together with the Legendary Hearts. “What a thrill to have them coming to Peach Festival,” said Entertainment Director Bill Kolter. “It might be the only chance you have to see them together this year…or for several years. And thanks to Tim Hortons, there is no admission charge.”

5440 RETURNS TO PEACH FESTIVAL

Legendary Canadian group 5440 returns to Peach Festival on Thursday night. In 2012, 5440 attracted a capacity crowd in Okanagan Lake Park. They are presented by Peters Bros. Paving.

A

band that has been at center stage in the Canadian music industry for more than three decades is returning to the Penticton Peach Festival. Peters Bros. Construction presents 54-40 in Okanagan Lake Park on Thursday, August 6. One of the largest crowds in Peach Festival history was rocked by 54-40 in 2012. And according to Peachfest Entertainment Director Bill Kolter, people have been asking for them to return since that hot August night. “By their second song, everyone was standing,” said Kolter. “They had the entire park singing along with their hits. What an incredible band.” With the singing and songwriting talents of Neil Osborne, 54-40 scored a breakthrough with its third album, “Show Me,” which spawned the hits “One Gun” and “One Day in Your Life.” Their long list of hits includes: Baby Ran, Ocean Pearl, Casual Viewin’, Since When, Lies To Me, Love You All and She La. One of their most recognizable songs, “I Go Blind,” was covered by Hootie & the Blowfish in the mid-1990s. The song was also used on the first soundtrack for the television series, “Friends.”

PEACH BIN RACE

T

he second annual Peach Bin Race will be the official kickoff of the Penticton Peach Festival. The race gets under way on Wednesday, Aug. 5 on Main Street, near city hall. This year, the proceeds will go the families of two young children who are battling cancer, Myla Ganzeveld and Lynnea Holmstrom. “We have a lot of fun,” said Director Paul Borba, “And at the same time, we are proud that we have donated more than $40,000, in past years, to charity. OFFICIAL PEACH FESTIVAL GUIDE

FRIDAY IS COUNTRY NIGHT AT PEACH FESTIVAL

Country music fans will be thrilled on Friday night when George Canyon, left, and King & Cash perform on the Peters Bros. Construction Stage. The country music night begins with two great local acts, Beamer Wigley, above right, followed by Dale Seaman and Highway 97.

T

he 68th annual Penticton Peach Festival has a special evening planned for country music fans. Peters Bros. Construction presents Canadian superstar George Canyon on Friday, August 7, in Okanagan Lake Park. In the past three years, Canyon has been the most played Canadian artist on Canadian country radio. He is also one of the most requested and recognizable stars on Country Music Television (CMT). “We’re thrilled to have George Canyon coming to Peachfest,” said Festival Entertainment Director Bill Kolter. “There is no bigger star in Canadian country music.” Canyon has been nominated for an incredible 34 Canadian Country Music Association awards; he has won 7 CCMA Awards including twice being named Male Artist of the Year; he has won two Juno Awards; and in 2011, he earned a SOCAN Award for “I Believe in Angels.” Besides having a great voice, Canyon combines the looks of a Hollywood leading man with the build of a professional athlete. Those attributes have helped him to earn starring roles in several movies as well as recurring roles on two television series, “Trailer Park Boys,” and “Heartland.” Canyon is also well-known for his charity work. He is currently the national spokesperson for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Kolter said, “George will be the highlight of the night… and one of the highlights of the festival. But, we have plenty of great entertainment on Country Music Night. And thanks to Peters Bros. Construction, there is no admission charge.” The evening begins with Penticton’s own Beamer Wigley.

Beamer, who started playing guitar in 2002 at the age of 5, has won numerous talent competitions including the PNE Star Showdown. He recently signed a management contract with the Invictus Entertainment Group. Beamer will be followed by Dale Seaman and Highway 97. It will be the third consecutive appearance at Peachfest for Highway 97, considered the top country band in the Okanagan. Then on the main stage, just before George Canyon, will be one of Canada’s hottest new groups, “King and Cash.” The band is fronted by Jordan Pritchett, former lead guitarist of Faber Drive, and Dan Arnold. “King and Cash” recently recorded their first single and are already drawing comparisons to U.S. super group, “Florida Georgia Line.” BeamerORBISON Wigley ROY TRIBUTE The Regals, featuring Larry Branson, will perform on the Peters Bros. Construction Main Stage in Okanagan Lake Park on Sunday, Aug. 9 at 5 p.m. Branson is considered to be among the top Roy Orbison tribute artists in North America.

TRIBUTE BANDS

TRIBUTE BANDS ON STAGE SATURDAY

T

he 2015 Penticton Peach Festival has a special treat for rock music fans. The Peach Festival, in conjunction with Penticton Speedway, will host a ‘Rock Tribute Night’ on Saturday, Aug. 8. The concert begins with ‘Forever Young’, a tribute to Canadian music legend Neil Young. That will be followed by ‘Legzz’, who have been called the best ZZ Top tribute band in Canada. Headlining the evening will be ‘High Voltage’ with their incredible vocal and visual performance of AC/DC songs. “It is going to be a great night,” said Peach Festival Entertainment Director Bill Kolter. “We have hosted tribute bands before, but never a line-up like this.” Only a select group of bands have been invited back to Peach Festival for multiple appearances. And ‘High Voltage’ is in that group. This will be their fifth appearance on the Peters Bros. Paving main stage, in Okanagan Lake Park. Kolter said, “Every year, people ask us to bring back High Voltage. In fact, saying that fans demand we bring them back would be more accurate.” There is no admission charge for Tribute Night or any of the other entertainment during the festival.
