Randy Hall is a Vancouver Island photographer specializing in nature photography, whether it is capturing natural settings such as seascapes or forest landscapes or the plants and animals that inhabit this part of British Columbia. Some of Randy's work is currently on display at the Oceanside Village Artists' Gallery and Island Exposures Art Gallery. Other images are available through Fine Art America. Website: http://1-randy-hall.artistwebsites.com/
Linda Matteson-Reynolds of Nanoose Bay has been a photographer for over 40 years. She is a regular contributor to OASIS magazine. Photojournalism, art, nature and animals are her inspiration. “Photography is a passion that has taken me to where I am in life as of now. I have been fortunate to have journeyed halfway around the world to end up in the most beautiful place to live and work. As any other medium of art, photography evokes emotion, forcing us to reflect on the world around us.“ www.lindamattesonreynolds.com
Brian Argyle is a Qualicum Beach ‘snowbird’ and avid photographer with a computer background—a good blend for the digital world. He’s also a bit of a ‘car nut’ who loves to visit new places and try new techniques and equipment. He teaches photography workshops locally and in Arizona and has had exhibits of his work in various Island galleries. Contrary to the saying “Nothing good happens after midnight...” he often ventures out in his Jeep for Milky Way and other starry background shots. Email: photographics@outlook.com
Brenda Gough started her journalism career as a radio reporter back in the early 80’s. These days she can often be found snapping photos of people out and about in the community for her Scene & Heard column in the PQB News. Born and raised in Burnaby she has spent the last 20 years in Errington where she lives with her husband Alan and their son AJ.
Peter McCully has been a broadcaster and publisher on both coasts and has owned a newspaper and run a small advertising agency along the way. He trained as a TV cameraman at 16. Peter is Publisher of The Parksville Qualicum Beach News, and has participated in seven previous Day in the Life community features. www.island-photos.ca
Carli Berry is a fourthyear journalism student at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops. She spends her summers on Vancouver Island and this year is helping out the Parksville Qualicum Beach News by covering a variety of news stories and taking photographs. She hopes to use this experience to gain a deeper understanding of photography and loves the chance to get out and about in the community.
John Harding has been a journalist for more than 25 years, working his way up to the managing editor position of daily newspapers in a number of Canadian cities. John has been the editor of The Parksville Qualicum Beach News since September of 2012. "I'm honoured to be part of this Day in the Life project," said Harding, "Because, truth be told, as a photographer, I'm a heck of a writer."
Jeff Westnedge is a full time designer with the Parksville Qualicum Beach News. Jeff also does freelance design, illustration, photography and video and is passionate about bringing his clients ideas to life. While he likes to shoot everything from portraits to landscapes, and wildlife to sports, he also loves capturing the passage of time, experimenting with long exposures and multiple images. To view his work and for contact information visit: www.jeffwestnedge.com
Jessica Skelton has worked for a Port Alberni radio station and as a freelance writer in Australia and Canada. Born in Parksville, Skelton spent some years with her family in Dawson Creek before returning to the Island and going to high school in Port Alberni. Jessica has since returned to Australia. Skelton says “I like meeting people and telling their stories.”
The 4-H SnapShots Photography Club is part of the Parksville Qualicum 4-H District. We are in our 5th year and have a very active group of talented young photographers ranging in age from 9 to 18 years. Our members go on field trips, participate in local shows (such as the Brant Wildlife Festival and photo shows at the McMillan Arts Centre) and enjoy workshops and presentations by other talented local photographers. Kaelin Sundberg-Groot is 13 years old, her second year in 4H Snap Shots and enjoys taking photos of nature, animals and her Yorkshire Terrier, Everest. Rya Harach is in his third year in the Snapshots Club, and fifth year in the Oddstock Club and has been interested in many different projects including poultry, gardening, sewing and sheep. Rya likes macro photography and people but has fun taking photos no matter what the subject. Ava Leary is 10 years old, her first year in 4H Photography. Ava’s favourite subjects to take pictures of are animals and nature - also loving Highland Dance and Soccer. Sinead Strijack is 13 years old and is in her 5th year in the 4H Photography. Her favourite things to take photos of with her Samsung NX 1100, are animals and landscapes. Haley Sudlow is in her 4th year of 4-H, and 2nd year in Sewing and Photography. Haley is using a Nikon Coolpix P600, Nikon Coolpix S31 and an Olympus C-8080 Wide Zoom. In her free time Haley enjoys taking pictures, mathematics, biking, swimming, music, and playing full contact football.
