ALL FOR LESS THAN A PREMIUM PRICE! My husband and I decided to re-face our kitchen cabinets. We got a quote from a big box store and a cabinet re-facing company. Their price was out-to-lunch! A friend of mine referred me to Mike at Premium Cabinets. He came to our home, did the kitchen lay-out, helped us pick our colour and door style, crown moulding, and new handles. We also had them build us a pantry wall cabinet, and they also installed granite counter tops. We love our kitchen, and Mike! Pat & Bob, Kelowna

Bistro patios are a great place, any time of day You’re not alone if you like to soak up some early morning sunshine before going in to work or enjoy an outdoorsy happy hour to help you decompress — any excuse is good to enjoy some time sitting on a bistro or bar patio. Whether it’s on the roof of a building, near a waterfront, or on a busy street, most towns and cities have a restaurant patio where you can relax and enjoy the warm season. In the morning, choose the patio of a local café, where the delicious aromas of roasting
and brewing coffee are sure to set you up perfectly for your day. At noon, pick the stimulating atmosphere of a busy street patio to keep your brain cells alert and active during lunch hour. In the evening, a hushed and exotic atmosphere may be preferred. A view is a must, and city patios are no exception. An unobstructed view of the architectural highlights of a city can be just as appealing as a lakefront. Downtown courtyard patios might be surrounded by walls, but the best establishments take care to fill them with interesting plants and flowers. Urban or rural, quiet or festive, patios are a great spot for friendly encounters or to enjoy quiet moments alone. They are the places that remind us to take advantage of the warm months, where we can immerse ourselves in the summer scents and busy sounds of outdoor life, all with the comfort of a coffee, glass of wine, or artisanal beer in hand.

The sheer pleasure of patios With summer heat, there’s no question of sitting inside to enjoy a refreshing drink, a frozen dessert, or a delicious meal. When the sun is shining, don’t settle for anything less than a patio. Having a drink or a meal outside increases tenfold the pleasure of dining. What a joy it is to bask in the sunshine during the day or let gentle breezes caress our cheeks in the evening. We feel as if we’re on vacation and our good mood is sure to go up yet another notch. All of a sudden life is beautiful!
Wouldn’t it be great if time could stand still? Unfortunately, that is impossible, but if the weather is good, tomorrow offers another chance to recreate the magic by visiting another patio. After all, each has its own unique cachet. One thing is certain, though: we should all make the most of this marvellous experience while summer is here.
Owners of restaurants, dairy bars, and pubs make every effort to maximize the pleasures of the great outdoors. Whether right on the sidewalk, hidden away in a courtyard, or nestled in the countryside, patios are always welcoming. Pretty sunshades and subtle lighting in the evening create a wonderfully festive atmosphere, and a bit of greenery and pots of flowers can only add to the effect. Eyes feast on colourful presentations and taste buds explode with flavour while we enjoy crisp salads, mouth-watering barbecued fare, cocktails inspired by southern climes, or ice cream smothered with fresh fruit. And don’t forget that patios are ideal settings for lively conversations with friends or maybe even a romantic encounter.
Having a drink or a meal outdoors can only increase the pleasure of dining out.

The gift of a good meal No matter what type of food they enjoy, just about everyone has a favourite restaurant that they love for its menu and atmosphere. A gift certificate from a restaurant of choice is always a great idea to please the person you love. The vast majority of eateries offer attractive gift certificates or cards, and even small family-run diners will likely be happy to hand-write a gift certificate upon demand. A restaurant gift certificate is also a thoughtful way to thank a neighbour for helping you with a chore or friends who came out on a Saturday to help you move. It isn’t necessary to give a large amount. Sometimes $20 can make all the difference between a simple meal and a real treat, accompanied by a glass of wine or a dessert. If you’re giving the gift certificate to a person who regularly eats out, you could choose a grill-room, a steak house, or a pub. One original idea is to give a gift certificate from a breakfast restaurant: what luxury, to sleep late and then treat yourself to breakfast out! Everyone loves to spoil themselves with a tasty culinary treat sometimes, especially when it doesn’t cost them a cent. That’s why restaurant gift certificates are so popular: they are the ideal gift for Christmas and other special occasions!
The art of choosing a good restaurant When you decide to dine out, it’s important to choose the right restaurant according to your taste. Choosing well will allow you to have an enjoyable outing that meets your expectations. A pub and its lively atmosphere is the ideal place to enjoy a good meal. Loud music or the sound of televised sports events will mean you can have lively conversations without disturbing the other customers. For a romantic evening, or for serious conversations, a restaurant with a quieter atmosphere and filtered lighting would be a more appropriate choice. A family meal If you’re going out with the children, the ideal choice would be a family restaurant with a playroom or some other kind of entertainment, such as placemats to colour. Here you can eat quietly without the children getting impatient. New restaurants Of course it’s always reassuring to choose a well-established restaurant that has a good reputation. However, discovering new restaurants, which frequently offer an innovative culinary experience such as fusion cuisine, vegetarian meals, raw food dishes, etc, can make a nice change. Limited budgets Even if you have a limited budget for eating out you’ll always be able to find somewhere that suits your needs. To save money, keep in mind that many restaurants offer weekday specials or menus that can be shared. If you avoid ordering appetizers or aperitifs, it will not only result in a smaller bill but you’ll also be able to eat out more often!
