President’s Message On behalf of the Directors of the Penticton Historic Automobile Society I welcome you to the annual Peach City Beach Cruise. We are proud to continue the legacy of founder Ken Paton and a number of Directors who had the vision and foresight to create, what has today truly become, western Canada’s premier 3-day car show. To participants showing their vehicles we extend a huge thank you. You are the center piece of the show. For visitors we hope you will enjoy your time in Penticton and take an opportunity to explore the city and surrounding area, including our beaches, shopping areas and the numerous wineries. I would like to thank the board of directors who have worked uncounted days to put this event
together. A huge thank you to our generous sponsors, without whom we could not produce this event. Finally, thank you to Penticton Mayor and Council, City of Penticton staff, Regional Detachment of the RCMP and our many volunteers for their enthusiastic and generous support of the Peach City Beach Cruise. Our primary objective is to serve the community by working as a team to present a motor vehicle show in an attractive, interesting, everimproving and fun filled setting for all to enjoy. Our vision also includes improving the lives of citizens of the South Okanagan by providing scholarships, charitable donations etc. Sincerely, Wayne Wood, President
Mayor’s Message It is a great pleasure to welcome everyone to the 15th Annual Peach City Beach Cruise, Canada’s premier family oriented car show. The City of Penticton is proud to serve as the backdrop for this event and I hope you’ll enjoy the three full days of entertainment. The “Magic Mile” along Okanagan Beach showcases the very best of Rod, Antique and Classic show cars and continues to be a popular and anticipated event every year. With nearly 800 vehicles, a motorcycle class as well as a Collector Car Auction and Saturday night outdoor concert, this event is more than just a car show. Please take time to explore the natural highlights and scenic beauty of our beaches, vineyards, and our famous Downtown Community Market. The market features hundreds of vendors showcasing handmade goods including clothing, food and

jewelry, collectables, antiques and furniture, as well as live music and entertainment. The market runs every Saturday morning and spans multiple blocks in the downtown core. Penticton also offers a wide variety of restaurants that utilize fresh, locally grown products and award winning wines. I wish to acknowledge the efforts of the organizing committee, sponsors and the many volunteers involved in hosting this premier event. Your hard work and dedication ensures the event’s success. I extend my best wishes for a successful car show and hope you enjoy Penticton’s welcoming atmosphere. We look forward to making the ‘Penticton’ experience memorable for you on this visit and many more future visits. Sincerely, Mayor Andrew Jakubeit

In Tribute Ken Paton (1938-2011) Founder of the Peach City Beach Cruise Ken dreamed of hosting a high-calibre car show featuring classics, antiques, hot rods, trucks and motorcycles. The first Peach City Beach Cruise was held in 2001. His dream was realized and continues today. Mayor and Councillors of the city of Penticton have proclaimed the first day of each Peach City Beach Cruise be known as “Ken Paton Day”. On behalf of the thousands who will enjoy this year’s show, we thank you Ken.
In Memory of Wally Hild Directors of the Peach City Beach Cruise would like to recognize and remember Wally Hild who passed away April 7, 2015. He, along with Ken Paton, promoted and founded the first Peach City Beach Cruise in 2001. Wally remained active with the cruise until his move to Vancouver in 2013. His recognizable “radio announcer voice” and talents in a number of areas will be missed.

1967 Canso Sport Deluxe Acadian 2014 Winner - 1960’s Modified Jos Greensen Williams Lake BC I call my 1967 Canso Sport Deluxe Acadian “Cinnamon Girl” because on a bright sunny day you can’t keep your eyes off her. I purchased this car in 1973 when I was 17. It was my first car. She is one of only 370 cars built only in Canada. She was custom built by Cariboo Street Rods in Williams Lake and the custom mix paint with ghost flames was by “Imagine That Metal and Paint” in 150 Mile House BC. The car has all original body panels and trim, an LS3 520 HP all aluminum engine, 4L65E transmission, a Moser 12 Bolt rear end with 3.55 gears, Wilwood disk brakes on all four corners, Billet Specialties Legacy 2 wheels and an Eddie Motor Sport serpentine drive (billet). Thanks to Rod, Scot and especially to Joann for all her support; and to all who contributed to the four year build.

1969 Camaro 2014 Winner – Muscle Modified 1969 Camaro Lonnie Fitzpatrick Surrey BC
After some years searching for a 1969 Camaro, I found this car in Las Vegas in 2011. Since then I’ve attended a few local car shows in the Lower Mainland and this is the first time for my car at the Peach City Beach Cruise. It was a great show with so many beautiful cars and trucks and very well organized. The car’s engine is a 555 cubic inch with BDS 871 blower & BDS Fuel Injection that runs on pump gas, with enough HP to satisfy or scare just about anyone. I look forward next year’s show.

BEST of the
South Okanagan 2015 2015
I was always fascinated with cars as a teen. My interest for the Cobra started when I was a kid vacationing with my parents in Penticton. I remember catching a glimpse of the odd one driving by and remember saying someday I would like to own one. An original one was way out of my price range so I started looking into building one myself. I did some research and found a company in Massachusetts that sells the bodies as well as a full race tubular chassis. So in 2010 I took the plunge and contracted a tractor trailer to pick it up and deliver it to Colville Washington where I would meet him and trailer it the rest of the way home. The build took me three years and a lot of research on the web hunting down parts. After fitting everything and having done the body work, I took the chassis to Agar Paint and Auto body in Kelowna to have it painted. The car weighs in at just over 2000 lbs. and sports a Ford small block full roller 5 litre that has been built at Advanced Engines in Spokane W.A. It has a Tremec 5 speed manual transmission and an 8.8 rear diff with 3:55 gears. The car sits on a 3 link rear suspension and has front tubular upper and lower “A” arms with Koni coil overs front and back. The thing is a blast to drive with such a large power to weight ratio. It handles like a go kart and can easily get you in trouble. It gets a lot of attention wherever I take it and I can’t wait till I retire in 2016 so that my wife and I can enjoy it.

I purchased my 1966 Corvette Stingray in 1970 in Vancouver, BC and drove around in it until 1980. After that I stored it for 29 years. Finally, in 2007, I was able to take my corvette through a full restoration. Since 2009 I’ve enjoyed going to car shows in the Okanagan. I mostly enjoy the Peach City Beach Cruise Car Show because of it’s fantastic display of cars, trucks, motorcycles and antique farm equipment as well as the great entertainment!

1957 Buick Special 2014 Winner 1950’s Modified
1957 Buick Special Ron Stimson, Kaleden BC Most people (even many car guys) don’t know, and some will state, that there was no such thing as a Buick Riviera in 1957. My car is a 1957 Buick Special, model 46R (Riviera Coupe). About 6 years ago I saw a 1957 Buick Special 2 door hard top. I had forgotten how smooth and elegant the lines of the 1957 Buick were. A few weeks later I saw one on Kijiji and even though I was well into a pre-48 project, I couldn’t resist the Buick. After a bit of work the car was inspected, licensed and driven a total of about 50 miles then totally disassembled. Chassis modifications included; new front cross member, tubular control arms, Ford power steering rack, a 3.25 positraction Ford 9” with triangulated 4 bar, 4 wheel disc brakes, and air bag suspension. As I wanted to keep the car as much Buick as possible; the drive train is a 1966 Buick Wildcat 401 with the Buick TH400. The engine was upgraded with 2x4 barrel Edelbrock carbs, MSD Ignition, and headers. Sheet metal and exterior trim remain totally stock. That includes approximately 55 pieces of chrome that were refinished as well as over www.bbfd.ca 50 pieces of stainless polished. The interior, Your LocaL Independent FueL and however, received a major make-over. The LubrIcant dIstrIbutor sInce 1998 dash was smoothed and filled with Dakota Digital gauges and clock. The stereo system NOW OPEN IN OSOYOOS is hidden, except for the remote control AT uShErS OK head that fits perfectly in the tachometer TrucK cENTrE receptacle on the modified Buick Wildcat console. The console also houses the Dakota Digital air ride control system. The polished aluminum trim inside is shaped to match the exterior trim. The interior and trunk was • pentIcton • oK FaLLs • caWston custom made by Crown Upholstery (Mike • osoYoos • prInceton VanTwout) from Red Deer. That includes a wrapped steering wheel, custom panels on the sides and above the rear seat, 3 point 448 Industrial avenue east, penticton seat belts, and the Riviera speaker built into phone: 250-490-0567 the rear seat.

This is a Palm Springs CA. car purchased in 2003. This car was in very good condition and capable of being driven coast to coast if desired. I wanted more. The car was taken apart down to the last nut and bolt and reassembled piece by piece in my shop over a 9 year period. Every piece was cleaned, repaired, repainted, re-chromed and replaced if needed. The car was refitted with a 500 big block Cadillac with a 700R4, air ride suspension, Fatman front and rear suspension, tilt steering wheel, air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, cruise control, power steering, power brakes and disc brakes on all four wheels. The seats are 1994 El Dorado ten way power seats with the El Dorado console. Exterior paint is crystal red, a Cadillac color. The upholstery is 100 percent leather. To make this car a smooth, long-distance cruiser, large amounts of sound deadening material was added along with four mufflers.

1933 Ford 3 Window Coupe 2014 Winner Street Rod
1933 Ford 3 Window Coupe Fred and Jeannie Kilby Surrey, BC My wife Jeannie and I share the same love for cars. Jean knew I liked early 1930’s cars and surprised me by purchasing the car for my 50th birthday. She was under the impression I was going to leave it as is. But, in true Hot Rodder fashion, I transformed it into my own vision. I changed the colour, wheels, intake, carburetors, added a custom hood, new grille etc and of course more $$$$. We both enjoy the cruise up from South Surrey to participate in the show. Shows like the Peach City Beach Cruise are the perfect opportunity to meet great people and to appreciate the hard work and dedication others bring to the show. Thanks again to the volunteers and organizers who work hard to allow us to show our cars in a great town.

SCARLETT – 1948 Chevrolet COE Truck. (COE refers to Cab Over Engine.) Scarlett was purchased in Attica, Michigan. It was the sad orphan from a car enthusiast’s estate who never saw his dream truck completed. Originally a larger truck, the cab was installed on a smaller ¾ ton frame. The build conversion required the engine to be moved back into the truck box. Scarlett sports a powerful Cadillac 500 cu in engine snuggled in the bed box made of diamond plating. The custom tilt deck is made of beautiful spar varnished oak inlaid on a black steel electric lift platform. The interior has every luxury known to man. It has custom pewter colored leather with candy apple red stitching to match the truck’s exterior color. The custom center council hides the 12 CD player and its speakers. The interior has tilt steering, cruise control, air conditioning, a regular horn as well as a hidden air horn. The dash is from a 54 Chevy and sports modern Dakota gauges. The five window cab has smoked grey windows and a rare windshield visor. The front fenders are stock but the back fenders have been widened to accommodate the custom Alcoa mag wheels. The exterior of the truck is Candy Apple Red. The truck drives as good as it looks and is a show favorite because of its custom design and deluxe workmanship.

1971 Chevelle 2014 Winner – 1970’s Modified 1971 Chevelle Rob Ellingsen Oliver BC
I have owned my car since 1981. The desire to always be working and changing little things on my car never stops. I plan to make a few small changes this year. The 427 big block won’t need any at this time. I’m thinking of some modification changes to my suspension and undercarriage. The best part of owning this car is showing it as well as cruising the beaches throughout the valley. The Peach City Beach Cruise has been a large part of my life. As a guy who loves old school muscle and chrome, it’s addicting. There are so many cars and the opportunity look closely at each allows me to gather new ideas. This car will always be in my life and family. The urge to do major horse power up grades isn’t far off. As the saying goes “Speed costs. How fast do you want to go?”

This Shelby was purchased new as an export car and was shipped to the Philippines. A sugar cane plantation owner sent his secretary over to buy the 10 fastest cars made. The car ended up sitting in an airplane hangar for 20 years and only had 2000 miles on it. The car was then sold and imported to Canada. The car has a 427 8V engine developing 525 horsepower on the dyno with 565 foot pounds of torque at 3400 rpm. It currently has around 40,000 miles on it and is driven whenever the weather is nice. The car is Night mist Blue in colour with White Lemans stripes and it has a white interior which was one of six factory fluke cars as they were not supposed to come with white interiors. The car is an early production car which makes it desirable as it has the inboard headlights, functional air scoops for the rear brakes, factory roll bar with racing harnesses, manual transmission and positraction rear end. Everyone who looks at it is surprised that Carroll Shelby has signed the car and service manual. This car is fully documented in the Shelby Registry and has 20 years worth of Philippine registry and pictures of it being unloaded off the cargo ship that brought it to Canada

1968 Pontiac Firebird
2014 Winner - Camaro/Firebird 1968 Pontiac Firebird Steven Desrochers Sechelt BC
My 1968 Firebird was the first car I ever wanted, but at 16 a convertible muscle car was not in my dad’s plan. On a visit back to Ontario I came across the car 23 years later. It was a basket case. We drove it for a year then completely rebuilt it. I did all the work with a lot of help from my wife and two girls. Stripped the whole car and almost every part was sandblasted and repainted with a lot of metal replacement once the problems were uncovered. Had a friend help me to get started on the body work. I can still remember the whole family out in the garage wet sanding the car for days on end. A local body shop in Hinton sprayed the paint on. As most projects they are always a work in progress, and once the kids were out of university. I could afford the better wheels and mechanical parts.

“The Z” is my 2003 Nissan 350Z Performance Model. Since being a young boy seeing the “tuner” scene on movies such as Fast and the Furious, I always wanted a car like mine! It’s been a 5 year project car for me to work on and have fun with. I’ve upgraded everything from the interior, the body kit, engine modifications, carbon fiber hood, a trunk filled with a stereo system and a crazy amount of carbon fiber accessories. Next year you will see my car at the event with some more power under the hood and will have the full show-car feel.

2006 Ford GT
2014 Winner - 2000 & Newer 2006 Ford GT Dave Pollon Surrey BC
Bought new at Dam’s Ford Lincoln in Surrey, photos were taken of the 2006 Ford GT sitting in the showroom before the “Dealer Prep” had removed all the pre delivering stickers and protective wrapping. Painted Mark IV Red with painted white stripes and powered by a supercharged 5.4-liter aluminum V8 engine putting out 550 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque through a sixspeed manual transmission with a limitedslip differential. It takes just 3.5-second from 0-60-mph. The Canadian cars get special rear bumpers to meet Canadian standards. Abandoning the assembly line so loved by Heny Ford, Ford GT’s start production in Norwalk Ohio at Mayflower Vehicle Systems are then painted at Saleen Special Vehicles. The Ford Romeo Engine Plant assembles the engines and the SVT Team completes assembly at the SVT Plant in Wixom Michigan Plant. The frame is made of aluminum and the whole car is basically hand built. 4,500 Ford GT’s were

planned with 200 cars to be shipped to Canada and 100 to be shipped to Europe. After producing 4,038 over 2004 to 2006, production was stopped with the remaining 11 car bodies dismantled and sold as service parts.

Silver Eagle Riders The ‘Silver Eagle Riders’ are a group of motorcycle riders who are members of the Penticton Aerie 4281 of the ‘Fraternal Order of Eagles’. Our group was formed in 2005 with 6 members. At present we have 19 members with a variety of bikes, both American and Metric. Besides riding motorcycles we raise money for local charities through fundraising events at the Eagles Aerie, and we conduct meetings periodically throughout the year as needed. All members of the ‘Silver Eagle Riders’ are first required to be members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. The photo is of a group ride over the cascades last year. The view was breathtaking. For information about the ‘Silver Eagle Riders’ please contact Bob at 250-492-4371 or email at bobimac@shaw.ca
Vintage Car Club of Canada The Vintage Carl club had its beginnings in 1958, the year of the Centennial of British Columbia. To help celebrate the 100th birthday, some owners of vintage cars organized a tour from Fernie to Victoria. There was so much interest in the event that the participants later formed what is now the Vintage Car Club of Canada. The purpose of the club is to encourage the purchase, preservation, restoration and display of vintage vehicles. We are a family oriented club with an emphasis on outdoor activities. Members bring friends, pets and children to events. Having a vintage car is NOT a pre-requisite; just a genuine interest in events associated with the club. For more information contact Gordon Sherwin in Penticton at 250-493-1498.
