When you see the love Lime Green Realty receives on their social media accounts, you know this is a little company with a large fan base in Central Alberta. Susan Rochefort, owner and co-founder of Lime Green Realty, attributes all this love to good old fashion business practices. “We are simply hard working real estate agents who are very honest with our clients. We are passionate about what we do and we hold ourselves to a higher standard. This is the foundation that Lime Green Realty was built on and as we grow that will not change. Every agent that works with our company and sticks with us shares these values and that is why they are here. I think this is really something special for real estate consumers whether they are buying or selling.” It is a perfect blend of good old fashion business and maximizing the use of technology that allows Lime *UHHQ 5HDOW\ WR EH PRUH HI¿FLHQW WKDQ WKHLU FRPSHWLWLRQ 7KLV XOWLPDWHO\ EHQH¿WV consumers by lowering commissions on WKHLU VDOH ZLWKRXW VDFUL¿FLQJ WKH TXDOLW\ RI services they will receive, as well as offering

cash back to buyers when they purchase. “We have developed Susan’s Listing Systems© and Susan’s Buying Systems© ZKLFK DUH D V\VWHPL]HG ZD\ WR HQVXUH TXDOLW\ and consistency with every agent at Lime Green Realty. Consumers can trust that all Lime Green Realty agents maintain a high standard through these systems regardless if they have 1 year or 15 years of experience in real estate.” Susan feels one of the weaknesses in the real estate industry is the lack of mandatory articling programs for agents who enter the industry. “When I started real estate in 2006 I came from an accounting/analytical background where I received years of training and articling. I was shocked at the lack of training I received when I started in real estate because, as a new agent, you don’t know what you don’t know. Unfortunately, this can carry on for many years and I have worked with agents who have been in the business for 15 years and are simply doing things wrong because they don’t know any different. This is the missing piece in our industry which I believe is why consumers are moving towards for sale
by owner companies and have dismissed the value that a good agent can add to the process. My goal with Lime Green Realty is to prove to consumers that our agents have value because of the systems we follow. Over the last 9 years Lime Green Realty has worked with a top real estate lawyer in Red Deer who has provided the foundation of legal knowledge in our real estate practice. We take a proactive approach to addressing legal issues that commonly arise in real estate transactions. This legal knowledge reduces risks to our clients. Additionally, Susan’s Systems© provide an additional protective factor to ensure a smooth completion of your real estate transaction. We strive for perfection in all we do and these systems are what sets us apart. We truly want what’s best for our clients whether they are buying or selling and I believe we have incorporated that into how we do business at Lime Green Realty.” Susan’s vision and the loyalty of her clients have resulted in her being ranked as Central Alberta’s and Red Deer’s #1 home seller in 2012, 2013 and 2014*. In fact, in 2013, Susan’s sales numbers broke a 23 year
MLS® record for having the largest number of MLS® listings sold for Red Deer and Central Alberta totaling 150 listings. She then went on to break that record again in 2014 with 171 sales*. In both years, Susan had a client satisfaction rating of more than 94%, which is an exceptional outcome given her high volume. “I am committed to ensuring that we are never too busy for our clients. I want our clients to know we are 100% committed to them so we will never take on more than we can handle. It is incorrect when my competition claims that high volume results in poor customer service. In fact, it is the complete opposite. Totally Refreshed Steam and Spa opens second location BY ERIN FAWCETT Red Deer Express Totally Refreshed Steam and Spa has expanded in Red Deer and their new south location opened just a couple of weeks ago. Kathy and Evan Taylor, owners of Totally Refreshed Steam and Spa, are excited to have expanded their business and look forward to continuing to offer the same top quality service to their clients at both locations. The newly-opened location of Totally Refreshed Steam and Spa on the City’s south side is at 2119 50th Ave. next to Visions Electronics and Earls. The north location is at 6200 67A St. The south location offers a luxurious atmosphere. The facility is close to 7,000 sq. ft. and offers large treatment rooms to accommodate doubles’ appointments whether it be mom and daughter, friends, husband and wife, or boyfriend and girlfriend. The south location also offers six steam rooms, a five-station pedicure room, a manicure lounge as well as rooms with built-in showers to allow clients to shower after a salt scrub or wrap without having to leave the treatment room. As well, a large lounge area is available to clients before and between appointments to ensure they experience the ultimate relaxation. “The goal with this location was to accommodate the bigger group bookings – bridal parties, get togethers, girls’ weekends and those kinds of things,” said Kathy. “We are always looking to satisfy our clients’ needs and give them a world class spa experience but at great affordable prices that everyone can enjoy.” Totally Refreshed Steam and Spa offers a number of services including massage, esthetics including waxing, facials, mud wraps, salt scrubs and make-up services. The business also offers steam baths with private suites as well and some retail items including professional skin care and essential oils, among others. Those services are offered at both the north and south locations.
The spa has also introduced a new product – a medi-spa skin care line called Image. “We are the only spa in Red Deer that carries this,” said Kathy. “Image Skin Care is based out of California and offers fantastic results. For me personally,I have always had acne and acne scars. After receiving one treatment, I literally saw results the next day. “It’s something I believe in and stand behind and am very excited to share with our clients. It has fantastic results.”Something new is that both of the locations will also offer hair services as well. Four hairstylists will be at the new south location. Each of them has between 15-25 years of experience. In addition, Kathy and Evan pride themselves on the highest standard of customer service and customer experience. “We have a fantastic team who are always looking to help people beyond their everyday spa services. Our number one focus is that the last client of the day is as good as the first client,” said Kathy. “People come and treat themselves – it might be their only visit of the year – and to positively affect them when they come in – we know we have power to influence their day. They come in, relax, recharge and reset and in doing so, they are able to give more to their work, family and friends. That opportunity is really special to me.” Meanwhile, Kathy added Totally Refreshed Steam and Spa is hiring new staff – both registered massage therapists and licenced estheticians. Potential candidates receive a $750 signing bonus! Kathy said they also pride themselves on offering continuing education to their staff to help ensure they continue to improve their skills and offer the best to their clients. “Every three months, all of our massage therapists, aestheticians and hair stylists get continuing education. They get advanced therapeutic classes, advanced training in facials and nails, et cetera,” she said. “The better services that we can provide for our clients, the better enjoyment they will have, the better treatments they will get and the better health benefits they will experience. It’s important for our clients to feel confidence in the services they are getting.” For more information, visit www.totallyrefreshedsteamandspa.com.

Central Alberta Brain Injury offers range of supports BY MARK WEBER Red Deer Express There is an array of ways that the Central Alberta Brain Injury Society (CABIS) serves people affected by brain injury. The Society, a registered charity based at #202 – 4805 – 48th St., has been helping individuals and families deal with the effects of traumatic or acquired brain injury since 1991 – free of charge. It essentially started with Club CABIS – a social drop-in support group spearheaded by family members which started meeting in the early 1990s. There was concern at the time on the part of families of people with brain injuries that there wasn’t more in the way of community support, recalls Jean Stinson, president of CABIS. And so the Society was formed, and has been going strong ever since – serving not just Red Deer but an enormous region surrounding the City as well. “We believe that people with brain injuries have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else,” she explained. “Our mandate is to support them in any way we can.” Lorraine Irwin, program administrator, agreed. Affordable Housing at its finest! Quality homes and affordable prices at Commonwealth Homes BY ERIN FAWCETT Red Deer Express Owning a quality home at an affordable price is what Commonwealth Homes allows its customers to do. Jim Fradette, general manager with Commonwealth Homes said there are many advantages to purchasing a modular home with their company. “There are several things that I really enjoy about our industry. One of them is the fact that not everyone can afford to purchase a $400,000 or a $500,000 home, but they still deserve to have a new home experience,” he said. “With our housing, it allows people to be independent and on their own and in their own home for a lot less money and without sacrificing the quality of the home that they move into. “In many ways they are getting more than they are bargaining for than if they bought a traditional form of housing. We have homes for under $150,000 with have jetted tubs, six appliances, top of the line kitchens, bathrooms and exteriors. Not only do you have a top quality home, but you can qualify for a home for much less of a down payment. It’s affordable to more people.” Commonwealth Homes started in 1977 and has been in Red Deer since 1991. The company offers a full service department, a friendly and knowledgeable sales staff and the trucking department is also operated out of the Red Deer location. Fradette has been with Commonwealth Homes for 20 years and first began his career with the company as a service person which included general repairs. Fradette then stepped into a sales position in 1996 in Red Deer. “I now have over 600 customers in Central Alberta who have p purchased homes from me.”

He has been involved in the completion of Waskasoo Estates as well as Davenport Estates and now has the opportunity to help people find their dream home in McKay Place in Blackfalds. There are 90 lots in the newly-opened gated community which offers both adult and family living. It is a land-lease community and so far a handful of families have moved in. Riser Homes is also the developer of McKay Place. “It is a full service community so if you move into the park and you don’t want to have to cut your grass, they will do that for you. If you want to be independent, you can fence your yard and you can look after it yourself,” said Fradette. “Being a land-lease community gives the advantage of not having to put as much money down – you don’t have to purchase your lot – all you are purchasing is your home so you can move in for a lot less money down. You also pay less taxes with a land-lease community and you have the benefits of the landowner privately looking after street care and ground keeping.” As for what sets Commonwealth Homes apart from their competition, Fradette said it’s the knowledge and friendliness of their staff. “I would highlight our experience. We are a full service centre and we have a large selection of Canadian-built homes. We are debuting our new Platinum Series home which is our most energy-efficient home to date,” he said. Fradette added Commonwealth Homes can also work with a variety of budgets – from an entry level home to a high end spec home. “For as low as $1,100 a month you could be a homeowner and that includes your lease payment.” For more information,, visit www.commonwealthhomes.com.

Care and Community for the Elderly Walking up from the sidewalk, it looks like a regular family home nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood. Upon opening the front door, warmth and busy kitchen smells waft out- baking muffins and freshly peeled cucumbers. Tanner, a tiny fluff ball and pet therapy dog, lifts his head but then decides to quietly return to his nap. Stepping into the Community Care Cottages on Dempsey Street in Red Deer feels like you are visiting grandma’s house, not a nursing home. Community Care Cottages are private nursing homes providing continuing care accommodations for the elderly. As a private facility, they offer an alternative to institutionalized care with an emphasis on
family living, community, and, both, choice and voice for seniors in Alberta. There are two elegant and professionally decorated homes in Red Deer and one in Edmonton. Each home has an on-site doctor and round the clock nursing services. The staff to resident ratio is 1:4 so seniors have a very high level of individualized care and the loving attention they need. Along with expert medical care, Community Care Cottages provides homecooked meals, assistance with daily personal care and medication delivery, coordination with the community rehabilitation professionals and home care, housekeeping and laundry services. for the elderly.” Cazemier opened the homes after searching for an appropriate elderly care facility for her own 92 year old grandmother who needed a high level of nursing care but thrived in home-like environment. Though Cazemier’s background is in technology and she was an executive at Amazon.com, she finds her current work in elder care personally fulfilling and more meaningful. Personal fulfillment is also a priority for the residents of the Community Care Cottages and residents can participate in an in-house program that helps seniors knit blankets for orphaned babies in Africa. The Care Cottages also offers pastoral care visits along concierge
services such as hairstyling, massage, chiropractic services, foot care, and dental care. Family and friends of the residents are always welcomed to visit the homes at any time. The Community Care Cottages hosts large family potlucks at Christmas and encourages families to celebrate other joyous events, like birthdays, with residents. Community Care Cottages is currently expanding and will be opening a new home in Lethbridge. Placements will be available in the upcoming weeks. If you are interested in more information on Community Care Cottages, their services or placement, you can visit their website at www.carecottages.ca or contact Karen Cazemier at 780 996 9463.
Community Care Cottages is proud to be one of the few private providers of elegant, residential supportive living accommodations and long term care for the elderly in Alberta. As a private facility we offer an alternative to institutionalized care and offer the highest quality of care available. By keeping our homes small and the staff to client ratios at about 1:4 we are second to none in the industry! After over 30 years of working for Ford Mark Nydokus, service manager of Cam Clark Ford on Gasoline Alley, has learned a thing or two about how customer Gasoli service can fo foster relationships with customers. In fact, in his time with Ford, Nydokus said the thing he has witnessed witnesse evolve the most within the international company is the level of service and expertise expected by customers. “The biggest evolution especially over the last five years has been quality of the vehicles due to technology and craftsmanship,” in the q he explained. “And secondly as consumers we demand more exp because becaus of the increase of quality in the product. “This means service and quality need to constantly be on par that and that’s something we do extremely well here and with tha always go above and beyond with.” a He explained the expertise customers experience when visiting Cam Clark Ford is best viewed in the service centre. “We understand people are coming to see us because they have a problem and we need to engage them so we can understand exactly what’s happening with their vehicle and what’s going on with it,” explained Nydokus. “The peace of mind you’ll get when it comes to maintenance being done through Ford experts who know the product inside and out like the back of their hands is enough to keep a smile on our customers’ faces. “We are the professionals who know what your vehicle needs and what to look for.” Exceptional customer service starts with the sales team and ends with the service team, explained Nydokus. This means team work is essential when it comes to ensuring quality customer service and when it comes to team work no one does it better than Cam Clark Ford.
Sales manager at Cam Clark Ford Dan Peterson added the fundamental building blocks of their successful customer service come from the people they hire and ensuring all of their staff work together between sales, finance and service. “People come here looking for a great deal, but they leave here thinking it was the best experience possible,” said Peterson. “The people go above and beyond and what’s number one for our customers is having them know they will be taken care of when they come here and that we make the experience as easy as possible.” Nydokus added it’s about ensuring everyone is on the same page. “We’ve really lucked out when it comes to staff,” he stated. “The stars have truly aligned in that all of the people who work here share the same values when it comes to exceptional customer service.” This team atmosphere and culture isn’t just a Ford standard, said Peterson – it’s a Cam Clark Ford standard. Nydokus added in the four years he has spent as service manager with Cam Clark he has noticed most prominently the smiles on the faces of the customers knowing they have been taken care of hassle-free whether it is their first car purchase or their 30th. Cam Clark Ford is in their third year of operations in Red Deer County on Gasoline Alley, located at 417 Lantern St. – the perfect location between Central and northern Alberta. Central Alberta Tile One – much more than a flooring store BY KALISHA MENDONSA Red Deer Express Central Alberta Tile One is more than a flooring specialist service – it also operates in conjunction with Rave Designs Ltd. and Central Alberta Lighting. The owners of the facilities – Shannon Moench, Barry Whitlaw, Troy Larsen and Dean Gillespie – have come together to manage and operate the three businesses and to offer a sort of single-stop shopping option for people looking for commercial, industrial or residential design. Moench, Larsen and Gillespie operate and own Central Alberta Tile One and Rave Designs Ltd. All four gentlemen own Central Alberta Lighting. As well, the companies are affiliated with StoneWorks Stucco and Masonry and Classic Granite. “I think what we’re trying to do is become a one-stop shopping destination, because the biggest issue we see with people right now is time. Rather than
them coming here to pick flooring and running across town for lights, or blinds – they can access Rave Designs, the blinds and custom furniture store, and Central Alberta Lighting as part of their stop here,” said Moench. The diversity in product has helped these stores come together and offer a wide variety of options to their customers. As well, all of the businesses have journeyman installers and educated interior design professionals to assist with their services. Central Alberta Tile One does not only deal in all types of residential and commercial flooring, but as well deals in epoxy flooring, synthetic grass, outdoor tiles, custom garages and more. Rave Designs Ltd. combines unique, custom blinds and drapery with furniture that is customized or handmade in Canadian communities. As well, they offer home finishings for décor. Central Alberta Lighting specializes in residential home interior lights. They also

offer LED-retro fitting for industrial and commercial buildings. Together, these three main facilities share and service clients in a way that is quick, accessible and professional. “All of our stores help each other as well. When someone is done with Central Alberta Tile One, we can introduce him or her to Rave Designs, or right to Central Alberta Lighting. We share a lot of customers because we know we can refer them right next door to get what they need,” said Whitlaw. “Right from Central Alberta Tile One to Central Alberta Lighting to Rave Designs – we have many professionals under one roof that are qualified and have received education in home interior design, in decorating, in trades – all of it,” he added. Although based in Red Deer, the group has performed jobs outside of Central Alberta, from Calgary to Fort McMurray. However, working in Central Alberta is still the main goal of the organizations.

“I think that the builders and trades in Central Alberta set the bar very high for quality workmanship, and we at Central Alberta Tile One, are always willing to maintain this high level of expertise.” said Larsen. Whitlaw agreed, saying, “It’s nice to be involved in a community as strong as Red Deer. We’re close to 100,000 people, with 250,000 surrounding in the area. It’s great to be part of such a strong community. The support the people give back to Red Deer is just an honour to be a part of. It’s an elite place to be part of and a perfect place to have a business.” Between Central Alberta Tile One, Rave Designs Ltd. and Central Alberta Lighting, the sales and design team can help a person complete an experience from start to finish. With expertise from flooring to furnishings and a specialty in customer service, this group can handle any project and appreciate your business!

Customer service and quality product at Millerdale Pharmacy
Top quality product and service at Sun N Fun Pool & Spa
BY ERIN FAWCETT Red Deer Express
BY MARK WEBER Red Deer Express From the very top lines of hot tubs and decorative accessories to finely-crafted premium patio furniture, Sun N Fun Pool & Spa is the onestop-shop for the best in both industry product and customer service. With a decades-long, solidly built reputation for taking care of every aspect from purchase through to maintenance needs, staff at the Red Deer-based Sun N Fun Pool & Spa, located at #3, 6782 – 50 Ave. are proud of their competitive pricing and exceptional products from superior manufacturers. The company has been in operation since 1962, said Sheila Edmondson, who owns the business along with her husband Gerry Bell. The couple took ownership in 2007 and moved to their current location last June. “It’s a family business with family attitudes, and we’re proud of that,” explains Edmondson, adding she and Bell still connect with previous owners. “We care for our customers – we get to know them. Those are good relationships that we have, and they’re a vital part of our business.” Meanwhile, it all starts with the tremendous selection of hot tubs, including Sundance Spas – a Consumer Digest award-winning spa manufacturer three times running. Edmondson said these hot tubs are engineered for every climate, and they are one of the most energy efficient and most therapeutic spas ever made. Of course, customers require tips and guidance on regular tub maintenance, and she explained the advanced technology of the BioGuard spa and pool water treatment products are user-friendly as well. Also, free water testing by the professionallytrained staff ensures clients enjoy sparkling clean
water. Permanent above ground pools are also showcased – Vogue Pools, as Edmondson explains, have pools for every yard size and budget. As with any product, ensuring staff have the latest industry knowledge is key as well. “The products we carry are from top-of-the-line suppliers in their fields. They also offer training, as they want their product offered in the right light. So there is always ongoing training.” Another feature of Sun N Fun Pool & Spa is the lines of patio furniture – Lloyd Flanders, for example, developed the wicker process more than one century ago. There are stylish collections to check out in the showroom, plus plenty available to order as well. Gensun Casual also offers an extensive selection of wrought aluminum furniture. There are all kinds of accessories to round out a customer’s comfortable backyard oasis as well from sophisticated decorative pieces and eye-catching wall art to Saber Grills, patio heaters, fire pits and custom umbrellas. “We can outfit your whole patio - we’ve got it covered.” Sun N Fun provides free delivery and set-up of hot tubs, and they also provide plenty of parts for customers’ ongoing service needs. “I’m pretty sure Gerry would say that we have the largest parts department in Red Deer.” Meanwhile, Edmondson said the business provides a fun and exciting atmosphere to work in. Folks come in looking for a brand new product to enrich their lives, and they’re all set to start enthusiastically exploring the product lines. “It’s a nice feeling as that’s what we provide. It’s about the extras in life.” Check out www.sunnfun.ca or call 403-346-4465. editor@reddeerexpress.com

Priding themselves on superior customer service and quality products, Millerdale Pharmacy continues to see success in Red Deer. Millerdale Pharmacy opened in Red Deer in 1979. Melanie Warren, owner and operating partner with Millerdale Pharmacy, is the third generation female family owner of the business. “We are not a standard pharmacy,” said Warren. “We are a compounding pharmacy that specializes in hormones, women’s health and extreme medical supplies – by that I mean we offer products such as breast prosthesis for post-mastectomy, ostomy and compression garments as well as everything to outfit an ambulance from top to bottom including wound care and dressings. “Our customers get a higher quality of service compared to bigger box stores.” Millerdale Pharmacy is also a full service pharmacy and offers medicine reviews with clients to ensure there are no food or drug interactions. “I think what sets our pharmacy apart is that we seem to consult on everything. We are very much sharers of information,” said Warren. “A person gets a real individualized customer service from all of the staff whether it be for a knee brace, or a custom medication that we’ve made for that person specifically.” She added if Millerdale Pharmacy does not regularly carry a product that a client needs, they will do their best to order it in for them as well. Millerdale Pharmacy also has a pharmacist practitioner on site who specializes in women’s
health and who offers health consultations for stress management, hormone imbalances, food intolerance, among others. “She will put together a program for our clients that includes natural vitamins, nutraceuticals and healthy lifestyle initiatives to help manage and positively redirect what is going on with the body,” said Warren. “That is something we do on an individualized basis.” Workshops are also offered to the general public. Within the next month, Millerdale Pharmacy will be hosting a breast health clinic where women. There will be a number of modules women can participate in and each session will be two and a half hours long. There are a limited amount of spaces available. Those interested can call Millerdale Pharmacy at 403-342-1434 for more information. Meanwhile, Warren said she enjoys the satisfaction of helping others. “It’s very exciting to be in an industry that is ever-changing and to see what new things emerge to improve people’s health. Millerdale Pharmacy is the Madonna of the pharmacy world – always evolving to meet changes in industry, community health needs and customer service. Our team is driven towards educating and finding the best information to help our customers,” said Warren. The pharmacy manager, Kimberly Flunder was a recipient of a Women of Excellence Award in the health and wellness category two years ago. With the arrival of November comes the time to consider growing a moustache for an excellent cause. Men around the world are signing onto the ‘Movember’ cause – growing a moustache through the month of November while raising funds for prostate cancer research. Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mogrowing efforts. Those interested in taking part can register at Movember.com with a clean-shaven face. According to the web site, for the rest of the month, the ‘Mo Bros’ groom and trim their moustaches while signing up support of friends and family. The Movember Gala Red Deer will be held Nov. 29th at Fionn MacCool’s. For reservations and more information, call 403352-0023. According to the Movember web site, prostate cancer is the leading cause of death from cancer in Canadian men. An estimated 4,000 men will die from prostate cancer in 2014, accounting for 10% of all cancer deaths in men. One in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and the risk of being diagnosed increases with age. Prostate cancer occurs when some of the cells in the prostate reproduce far more rapidly than normal, resulting in a tumor. If left untreated, prostate cancer cells may eventually spread from the prostate and in-
vade distant parts of the body. One of the most worrying aspects of the disease is that most prostate cancers develop without men experiencing any symptoms in the early stages Meanwhile, for those struggling with the disease, there is a group of men here in Red Deer who are ready to offer support. The Red Deer Prostate Cancer Support Group (Prostate Cancer Canada Network – local chapter) has been lending a supportďŹ rst ive hand for about 16 years now. It was ďŹ rst launched by Bill Martynes and Mike Eckenswiller, with help from Marg Scheyen of the Canadian Cancer Society. The awareness and support group, which continues to meet every third Thursday of the month since 1997, is an informal gettogether, where men share stories about their experiences with prostate cancer. The meetings are open to anyone who is interested, and there is no expectation of commitment. The members of the group have a lot of information and even more stories to help men and their families gain insight into the types of treatments. Anyone interested in the group can contact Bert at 403-3433808 or Bill at 403-342-0694. Regarding Movember, the movement was launched back in 2003 by some men in Australia who wanted to bring back the moustache into fashion while raising money for prostate cancer research. There are now formal campaigns in Australia, New Zealand, the U.S., Canada, the UK, Finland, the Netherlands, Spain, South Africa and Ireland. editor@reddeerexpress.com

Honesty and integrity the key to Southside’s enduring success BY MARK WEBER Red Deer Express It’s a winning formula of honesty and integrity that not only attracts customers but keeps them coming back at Southside Dodge Chrysler Jeep & RV Centre in Red Deer. The dealership, which has been flourishing in the City since its start back in 1972, carries a top-of-the-line selection of pre-owned and brand new cars, trucks and RVs plus full finance, parts and service centers to fully round out the purchasing experience. “One thing that is different about Southside compared to other places, whether it’s automotive or non-automotive, is that we are here to help people with their purchases,” said Rod Oszust, general sales manager. “Besides a house, the next biggest purchase is going to be an automobile or an RV. “So if you give people all of the right information, to make an educated decision, with no pressure or hassle, and with genuine care for them –
if you look after them properly, they come back for the second vehicle and the third vehicle. And they refer their friends and neighbors to us. Sixty-five per cent of our business is repeat and referral business.” Oszust said the business also works hard to keep things clear and simple as customers navigate their way through the process of a purchase. “People can look around, find one or two vehicles that best suit their needs, and then grab a sales person.” At other dealerships, customers can look around but there is often little detail provided to them as to vehicle particulars, price or payment options. “We are very much about being transparent,” he said. “We want the customers to feel in control. How many dealerships have you been to where you aren’t in control? We are the opposite.” Oszust brings more than 25 years altogether to his role as general sales manager at Southside, where he has been heading the department for 18 years. He explained the key ingredients to his own success in sales, as
well as the ongoing success at Southside, are an emphasis on honesty and integrity within the staff, which numbers about 25 in the sales department alone. Even in a less brisk economic climate such as the province is experiencing now, Southside continues to attract customers via that mandate of treating all who walk through the doors with honesty and respect, he said. Oszust said staff will take customers through a kind of interview process to best help gauge their needs and price range for vehicle, finding the most suitable fit for them. “We do all the questions up front, instead of a bunch of surprises at the end,” he said. “We try to eliminate all of the surprises by asking all the proper questions up front, and we are finding people are receptive to it. “We’re very easy-going. It’s ironic because often when people are buying a car, they walk in the door and you can tell they’ve been somewhere else because they are agitated and very tense. We just knock the walls down
and say, ‘Listen folks – whatever happened at the past store or in your past experience somewhere else – we are going to have fun today’.” They are usually visibly relieved to hear this, and then an honest chat about their needs can begin. Again, he said it’s really about giving them a great shopping experience. Another plus at Southside is that upon purchase of a vehicle, customers are also entered to win $10,000 in cash. “We’re the only dealership I believe in all of Alberta to offer the customer an opportunity to win $10,000 in buying any new or pre-owned auto or RV. There are no games to it, whether you buy an $8,000 pre-owned or an $80,000 truck. It’s equal opportunity for everybody. We’ve had that for the better part of three years.” It’s just another plus for customers in rounding out an enjoyable visit to Southside, he said. “We really want the repeat/referral business and we want people’s experiences here to be the best they can possibly be.” editor@reddeerexpress.com
