PARKS & RECREATION ROBERT BURNABY PARK Many trails are on hills, so expect a bit of climbing. The effort is worth it, however, with many quiet corners and creekside spots. Canada Way to 16th Ave., turn northeast and then left on 1st St.
BC PARKWAY Cyclists love this car-free route, also great for families on bikes or walking. Paved in most sections. Runs along the Expo SkyTrain line for 19 kilometres from Westminster Quay to False Creek.
FRASER FORESHORE PARK The eastern edge of the park, which runs along the river from Boundary Road to the Big Bend area, is becoming an important environmental area. At the south end of Byrne Road.
BURNABY MOUNTAIN CONSERVATION AREA Mountaintop views make this 1,423acre park a great place to explore. Mountain bikers also love the demanding climbing and downhill tracks. North on Gaglardi Way to Centennial Way.
CENTRAL VALLEY GREENWAY 24-km urban trail is great for everything from cycling to walking to wheelchairs; parallels the Millennium SkyTrain Line from River Market through Burnaby to Science World.
CENTRAL PARK Urban forest boasts an 8.5-km web of wooded trails. There’s also a pitchand-putt, tennis courts, gardens, playgrounds, an outdoor pool, baseball diamonds, playing fields and Swangard Stadium.
Central Park’s towering forest. MARIO BARTEL | NEWSLEADER
BURNABY LAKE REGIONAL PARK Lakeside trails are restricted to walkers and runners, who love the 10-kilometre lap around the lake. Also an important wildlife sanctuary for birds.
BARNET MARINE PARK This linear park on the spectacular Barnet Inlet is a water lovers’ favourite. Picnic tables and barbecues, along with concession stand, change rooms and outdoor showers in the summer.
DEER LAKE PARK A gorgeous blend of nature and culture. Walking trails with scenic views along the lake plus Burnaby Art Gallery, Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Burnaby Village Museum and Hart House Restaurant.
From lattes at Old Crow Coffee Co. in New Westminster to the stunning views atop Burnaby Mountain, there is so much to discover and enjoy here. Let this be your guide! MARIO BARTEL | NEWSLEADER Copyright 2015 Glacier Media Group, 7438 Fraser Park Drive, Burnaby, BC, V5J 5B9 604-438-6397
