welcome to kamloops North Shore The Kamloops North Shore has a deep and rich history. Composed of two former municipalities (Brocklehurst and North Kamloops); that fully amalgamated with the City of Kamloops in 1972. Located in the traditional territories of the Secwepemc People; the City’s first nonaboriginal explorers came with the expanding fur trade. Future residents migrated from America, Mexico, and from across Europe and Asia to take advantage of the rich soil and the strong sense of community found in the beautiful Thompson Valleys. Our prime location sees the first signs of spring with gorgeous blooms and orchards coming to life full of vibrant colours and tantalizing aromas. The bubbling streams and rivers provide relaxing atmosphere in this semiarid desert setting. We have some of the best sport and recreation facilities the province has to offer. McArthur Island is a state of the art facility, the new BMX track at Ord Road is national standard and don’t forget the numerous recreational trails along the North Thompson and Thompson rivers as well as the many hikes through our Lac Du Bois Grasslands Provincial Park and into the ‘hoodoos’. If you’re looking to have fun and dine out, we’ve got that too. Let your mouth water with all the ethnic tastes the North Shore has to offer. Enjoy live performances at The Stage House, as they host intimate, community theatre productions. The night life is vibrant and cheerful, the shopping is unique and our activities are endless. The North Shore has evolved and grown over the years, while keeping its small town charm and hospitality! That’s one of the many reasons it is so popular with visitors and locals alike. This is an interactive and supportive community that is ever growing to make itself the best it can be. This year the much needed Overlanders Bridge repairs will begin. We are home to the city’s only play‑house dedicated to community theatre, and a diverse mix of visual and musical arts community. If you are looking for culture, you are also in the right place. City of Kamloops Kamloops Overlanders Bridge Rehabilitation Project APRIL - OCTOBER 2015
With close to 42,000 vehicles crossing its deck each day, the Overlanders Bridge is one of the most important transportation assets connecting the north and south shores of Kamloops. And... it's in need of repair.
Here's the good news... - At least two lanes of traffic on the bridge deck (one each direction) will be
kept open at all times during the project. - The east side multi-use pathway will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists. - Transit and emergency vehicles will be given priority access onto the bridge.
Here's the not-so-good news... Expect delays. While every attempt will be made to minimize the impact on residents, business owners, motorists, transit users and pedestrians, delays and congestion throughout the project are inevitable and should be expected. The best way to decrease traffic congestion is to decrease traffic:

Love The Outdoors! Visit A Park The animals especially love the treats that are available in small vending machines on‑site.
McArthur Island Park This island park is home to a multitude of sporting facilities, soccer and baseball fields, ice rinks, a skateboard park, golf course, and more. A 3km paved path boards its perimeter, providing a refreshing walk, bike ride or rollerblade while you check out the park! Your walk will take you through a butterfly garden, xeriscape garden and other riparian areas as well as past the city’s extensive collection of unique outdoor exercise equipment which is available and free of charge for everyone. Brock Park (Dog Friendly) – Playground, tennis courts, year‑round ice rink and public outdoor pool. McDonald Park (Dog Friendly) – Playground, basketball courts, water park, pickleball courts, public outdoor pool, gazebo, and community garden. Overlanders Beach Park (Off Leash Dog Friendly) – Take the path down below Henry Grube Centre and enjoy a nice, quiet and tranquil natural beach on the banks of the Thompson River. Ord Road Dog Exercise Park – Even Fido likes to hang out with his friends. Enjoy letting him romp around the dog park. Westsyde Centennial Park (Dog Friendly ‑ On leash in park, off leash on the river side of the dyke) – Features picnic tables, playground, shade, grass and the Little Farmer’s Petting Zoo. Little Farmers Petting Zoo – Located in Westsyde Centennial Park. A great spot to bring the kids or grandkids. Many of the animals come to the fence to let you pet them.

Geocaching Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunting game. Players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using a smartphone or GPS and can then share their experiences online. More than 1700 caches are scattered within a 30km radius from the centre of town. The McArthur Island Treasure Hunt is a series of 15 geocaches that create a geocaching training playground for new geocachers. This is a place where new and experienced geocachers meet in a relatively small area. Caches in this series are family‑friendly and some are wheelchair accessible. Visit geocaching.com Hike & Bike River’s Trail – Begins downtown at Pioneer Park across the Overlanders Bridge and then splits with the Schubert Drive Trail. The pathways are paved and flat. Schubert Drive Trail – This popular walking and jogging trail is part of the Rivers trail. It starts at the North side of the Overlanders Bridge and runs parallel to the North Thompson River. Flat and paved, perfect for a leisurely stroll, a walk with the baby stroller or a nice jog. River’s Trail to Cinnamon Ridge – Starts at the parking lot at the end of Aviation Way and heads west past the airport. At the fork in the path turn left to the beach and right through farmers fields to Cinnnamon Ridge. The walk is mostly flat and level and a great place to take a leisurely bike ride or a walk with ‘Rover’! SHOP, STAY, & PLAY
The Beacon – A short but vigorous hike with large rewards. Located at the top of the Ord Road Cliffs on Batchelor Hill directly above Brocklehurst. Offers one of the best panoramic views in the city. Best accessed by parking at the Water Tower located just off of Ord Road between McLean St and Singh St. The hike doesn’t take long: 15 minutes to one hour depending on speed and fitness but it is straight up! The Hoodoos – Head west 3.5km past Airport Road on Tranquille Road which veers left on Red Lake Road. Park on the small gravel pullout on the right side of the road. Cross the railway tracks and head up the hill. Mildly steep terrain, requires good mobility. Tranquille Marsh Bird Sanctuary – Just past Cinnamon Ridge Compost Centre, left into a small parking area. You can also spend time exploring Tranquille Farm Fresh nearby. Lac du Bois Grasslands – 15,000 hectare protected provincial park featuring sweeping grassland vistas, spectacular cliffs and canyons, cool, dry forests, secret ponds and small lakes including Isobel and McQueen Lakes. Enter the area in the east via Lac du Bois Road located on at the top of Batchelor Heights or via Red Lake Road in the west. Mara Mountain – On Red Lake Rd just past the Hoodoos. There are two routes; one a shorter steeper route and the other a gravel road up, single track down popular with mountain bikes. Vegetation ranges from cactus, sage, forest and grasslands.
Love The Outdoors! Watch for Planes and Skydivers
Head to the Kamloops Airport to watch the planes come in. One of the best viewing areas is at the end of Aviation Way off Tranquille Road. Here you will find the end of the River’s Trail and plenty of places to watch for planes. If you’re lucky you will get to see one of the many Kamloops Skydiving club members doing a jump! Or head to the airport and check out the Canadair CF‑5 Freedom Fighter which was erected in honour of the Moose Squadron formerly stationed here.
