PRINCE RUPERT CHILD CARE CENTRE Ages 5 - 11 yrs Prince Rupert Child Care Centre is a licensed before and a er school care program for children aged 5 to 11yrs. Centre is open from 6:00 am to 9:00 am and 2:00 pm to 5:45 pm. Pick up and drop off from school to the centre available. Age appropriate ac vi es provide a safe and fun place for kids to go and includes arts and cra s, homework me (with support), and access to Recrea on Centre’s ac vi es, all led by Early Childhood Educators. Rupert Rock Climbers is dedicated to pursuing all forms of rock climbing indoor and out. If you’re preparing for your next big wall or just want to give it a try, come out for an open wall me or learn to belay in an Intro to Climbing class. Climbing is a partner-based ac vity and signing up in a group is encouraged. Climbers will need clean running shoes; other equipment is provided. Par cipants must either have successfully completed Intro to Climbing or pass a belay test before they are allowed to belay on our walls.

INTRO TO CLIMBING Ages 16+ yrs (13 yrs if signing up with an adult) This introductory course teaches the skills needed to climb and belay safely in an indoor climbing environment. Par cipants will learn about the gear and techniques to safely top-rope climb; including harnesses, ropes, e-in knots and the belaying procedures needed to take the belay test. HOME ALONE AGE: 10+ The Canada Safety Council Home Alone Program is designed to provide children 10 years of age and older with the necessary skills and knowledge to be safe and responsible when home alone for short periods of Ɵme. Workplace Emergency First Aid (also known as Occupa onal First Aid Level 1 or OFA 1) is a hands-on interac ve 1 day course that teaches workers how to deal with the most common workplace first aid emergencies. Both pools will be open, diving board & rope swing will be available. Sauna & hot tub always open. The main pool will have a min. of 1 lane open for lap swimming.

Some faciliƟes will be open, but may be shared with organized instrucƟonal programs. Rope swing & diving board may not operate during these Ɵmes. All children not in lessons regardless of age must have a caregiver present inside the pool area. Children ages of 7-13 not in lessons, are not permitted in the pool unless: • They have a sibling in swimming lessons, or • They are supervised by a caregiver.

Children under 7 years aƩending a public or family swim, must be accompanied by a caregiver (defined as a responsible person 16 years of age or older). For every 3 preschoolers, there must be one caregiver in the water, within arm’s reach, supervising the children’s play and acƟvity. Your child’s best life preserver is you.

REPORT CARDS Report cards are completed once the lessons have finished. A er they are double-checked and reviewed by the Head Lifeguard Instructor, they are placed at the front counter for pick-up. Please remember to return swim card on the first day the next lesson set. If you don’t receive your card within 2 days a er your last session, you will receive a 10% discount on your next swim lesson set.

PERSONALIZED SWIM INSTRUCTION These swim lessons provide one-on-one instruc on for swimmers that wish to strengthen their swimming ability. Some mes a li le help can make a big dierence! Does your child need work on a specific stroke or skill or could they benefit from one-on-one instruc on? If one-on-one instruc on suits your needs, call or drop by. We will schedule your private lessons on the mes, dates and with the instructor you prefer whenever possible. NOTE: All private lessons must be paid in advance. No refunds will be given without a minimum of 24 hr no ce. An admin fee will be charged on all cancella ons.

If we do not have enough par cipants in a class, then unfortunately it will be cancelled. It is important that you register early.

The staff call everyone to confirm date, me, level and the par cipant for a class. However, there are mes we either don’t have the correct contact informa on or we are unable to leave a message.

REFUNDS Once the class has started, there will be no refunds unless you are withdrawing for medical reasons (with a doctors note). Private lessons require a 24 hr no ce of cancella on. A 15% administra on fee will be charged on all cancella ons with less than 72 hours of no ce.

We urge caregivers / par cipants to call us at least 2 days prior to the start of the lesson set to check on the status of your lessons. We do our best to accommodate everyone, however if you are on a wai ng list we can’t guarantee your preferred me slot.

Bronze Camp

Assistant Water Safety Instructor

Prerequisites: Ability to swim 600 metres; 13+ years of age UNLESS you have Bronze Star.

Prerequisites: 15 years old and Red Cross Swim Kids 10 or equivalent

This camp is designed to further lifesaving skills. The camp combines two advanced lifesaving awards: Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross with a CPR ‘C’ award. ParƟcipants will perform challenging water rescues, learn First Aid and CPR, and develop aquaƟc endurance.

The Assistant Water Safety Instructor Course (AWSI) is a prerequisite to the Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course. The Assistant Water Safety Instructor Course covers the foundation of instructional skills including teaching methods, learning styles, physical principles, progressions, communication, safety supervision and feedback.

Bronze Cross can earn you 2 credits for grade 11. Instructor: Kendal

Candidates are evaluated during 8 hours of assistant teaching and through individual study assignments.

ABOUT THE BUILDING

Originally opened as the Prince Rupert Civic Centre on October 16, 1971, the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre has offered a place for the community to live and play actively since its inception. With the Civic Centre’s re-dedication to Jim Ciccone and his family on February 9, 1996, it continues its tradition of steadfast dedication to Prince Rupert and all of its visitors by supplying quality facilities for community activities. Facilities include the Russell Gamble Gymnasium, Dick St. Louis Auditorium, Activity Rooms , Pottery Room, Lapidary Room, Arts & Crafts Room and an Ice Arena. The Earl Mah Aquatic Centre is dedicated to Earl Mah, a life-time member of the community of Prince Rupert. Earl Mah was the first Chinese-Canadian born in Prince Rupert and a respected volunteer, businessman, and city Alderman. The facility opened its doors to the public on March 6, 1982. The Aquatic Centre provides a place for individuals and families of all ages to enjoy themselves. Facilities include an indoor pool complete with diving pool, tot pool, swimming lanes, saunas, hot tub and a fitness area overlooking the pools.
