Voter Qualifications CITY OF PARKSVILLE You may vote in the Parksville municipal election as a resident elector if you meet these requirements. It does not matter whether you rent or own your home: • Are a Canadian citizen; AND • Are, or will be, 18 years of age or more on General Voting day (November 15); AND • Have lived in BC for at least 6 months (since May 13) prior to registration and have lived in or have owned property in Parksville for at least 30 days (by October 15) prior to registration; AND • Are not disqualified from voting by the Local Government Act or any other act.
Voting Day Only Registration When arriving to vote, you will be required to provide two pieces of identification containing your name and address (at least one with a signature). If you do not have documentation showing residency, then two pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) are still required and you must then make a solemn declaration as to your residency. Documents which may be accepted are: • BC driver’s licence • BC identification card issued by Motor Vehicles Branch • Owner’s certificate of insurance and vehicle licence issued by ICBC • BC CareCard or BC Gold CareCard • Birth certificate • SIN card issued by Human Resources Development Canada • Canadian passport • Citizenship card issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada • Real property tax notice issued by City of Parksville • Credit or debit card issued by a savings institution • Utility bill for electricity, gas, water, phone or cable services
TOWN OF QUALICUM BEACH RESIDENT ELECTORS: • 18 years of age or older on general voting day for the election or assent voting; and • a Canadian citizen; and • a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and • a resident of the Town of Qualicum Beach for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; and • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election and not otherwise disqualified by law. NON-RESIDENT PROPERTY ELECTORS: Non-Resident Property Electors must produce two pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove identity, and must also bring evidence that you are entitled to register in relation to the property, including: • proof of ownership of the property (ie. Recent copy of the Land Title Search Certificate, available from the Government Agent or agencies with BC Online or the Certificate of Indefeasible Title); and • written consent (form available from Town Hall) signed by a majority of all the owners, if there are multiple owners of the property, stating that you are the one owner who is designated as the Non-Resident Property Elector for that property. You may only register as a Non-Resident Property Elector in relation to one piece of property regardless of how many properties you own in Qualicum Beach. If you own property with a corporation, none of the owners of the property are eligible to vote. In accordance with the Local Government Act, the only persons who are registered owners, either as joint tenants or tenants-incommon, are individuals who are not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust.

The identification must prove both residency and identity. To register, non-resident property electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove identity, proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property, and, if there is more than one owner of the property, written consent from the other property owners.
SCHOOL DISTRICT 69 There is no need to pre-register to vote as the registration of all electors for this election will take place at the time of voting. You will be required to make a declaration that you meet the following requirements: • 18 years of age or older on general voting day • Canadian citizen • resident of BC for at least 6 months immediately preceding the day of registration • resident of OR registered owner of real property in the School District 69 (Qualicum) for at least 30 days immediately preceding the day of registration, and • not disqualified by the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or otherwise disqualified by law. Resident electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature). Picture identification is not necessary. The identification must prove both residency and identity. Non-resident property electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) and provide a copy of land title registration or tax notice which provides proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property. If the property for which you are registering to vote is owned by more than one owner the written consent of the majority of the owners must be presented at time of registration. Non resident property electors can only vote once, regardless of the number of properties they own in the relevant voting area. As well, under Provincial legislation, corporate property owners do not have the right to vote in local government elections.
