Five local candidates for the upcoming school board election have been listed on Civic Info B.C.'s website. School District 78, Fraser Cascade, uses a ward system to ensure geographic coverage of the entire student population. Three candidates are listed for the Agassiz Harrison electoral area. They are Fiona Delcourt, Cindy Ferguson and Rose Tustian (incumbent).

Trustee Ron Johnstone confirmed with the Observer this week that he will also be running for re-election. Incumbent trustee for the Canyon electoral area, Tom Hendrickson, is listed as running for re-election. And in Hope, Robert Genaille has thrown his hat into the ring. The list is not complete, as the deadline for nominations is not until Friday, Oct. 10 at 10 a.m. Voters will elect school trustees at the same time as the municipal election, on Nov. 15.

At Tuesday's school board meeting, held at Agassiz elementary secondary school, Tustian brought forward a discussion regarding reducing the number of trustees in Fraser Cascade in the future from seven to five, and changing from the current ward system (where each trustee has a specific geographic area to represent) to an at-large system.
