The City of Chilliwack has a facility to meet all your needs:
Evergreen Hall
Located at 9291 Corbould Street, the Evergreen Hall is a prime location to host gatherings of various types and sizes. The Cheam Room is a full size gymnasium, which can host 450 people in a banquet setting and as many as 650 people in a theatre style setting. The Minto Room has a capacity to host 20 –25 people and is ideal for small gatherings. The Slesse Room has a capacity to host up to 70 people if a mid size setting is what you are seeking.
The Landing Sports Centre
There is more to this facility than meets the eye. Located at 45530 Spadina Avenue, the Landing Sports Centre’s main floor has the capacity to host gatherings for as many as 1870 people. The Loft area provides space large enough for 250 people in a banquet setting and up to 300 people in a theatre setting. If a small meeting room is what you
need, the Clover Room has a meeting capacity of 30. If you enjoy playing tennis year round, the Landing Sports Centre can accommodate you with its four indoor tennis courts.
Exhibition Turf Field
Exhibition Field is designed to accommodate games for both CFL and NFL rule football, a full size soccer pitch, or three mini soccer pitches. For teams wanting to warm-up prior to their play the facility also has a warm up area available for use. The facility also houses four team and one official change room. As the City of Chilliwack’s premier sport facility Exhibition Field also includes a covered grandstand facility capable of seating 2,000 spectators and includes concessions services available through the Chilliwack Football Club. Other amenities available upon request are a digital scoreboard and a public address system.
Chilliwack Secondary School Turf Field
The Chilliwack Secondary School Field is a synthetic turf facility designed to accommodate school program during the week until 6:00pm with community programming beginning weekdays after 6:00pm, on weekends and holidays. The field can host field hockey, full-size and mini soccer play. This facility also has field lights and washrooms available allowing for year round and longer hours of use.
Twin Rinks
Located at 5725 Tyson Road, Twin Rinks is the premier location for public skating, dropin hockey and organized ice sports such as Minor Hockey, Seniors Recreational Hockey, Figure Skating and Speed Skating. If you are planning a event such as a birthday party, or corporate event, Twin Rinks can accommodate you with skate rentals and meeting rooms.
Townsend Park Turf
Located at 45130 Wolfe Road, Townsend Park is a multi-use complex that contains 5 multipurpose pitches, three of which are lit, and one of which is comprised of synthetic turf and lined to accommodate minor football (using CFL rules), soccer and field hockey; six lit softball diamonds, change rooms and concession services. As a host facility to a number of high caliber play Townsend Park also has team and an official’s change room, a scoreboard and a public address system, all available upon request. This outdoor facility also boasts a walking trail around its perimeter which is approximately 2.0 km in circumference. The park is easily identified by the sport pavilion and Kinsmen Ability Playground located in the middle. Creating a Vibrant Downtown Chilliwack Chilliwack City Council is actively pursuing a dynamic plan to transform downtown Chilliwack into an attractive, vibrant and safe neighbourhood. As we all know, there are no fast or simple solutions to the challenges of renewing a city centre. Careful strategy, time, patience and a strong vision are required. Fortunately, the City of Chilliwack is making bold steps forward in the multifaceted downtown revitalization plan to encourage significant transformation.
Downtown Community Garden
Located on Yale Road, the Downtown Community Garden is entering its first full growing season. Managed by Ruth and Naomi’s Mission the garden serves as an opportunity for clients of the Mission and seniors who live in the area and who are somewhat marginalized to meet over working their plots, plant, grow and harvest their crops with any extra bounty being given to Ruth and Naomi’s Mission kitchen. Originally the garden contained twenty plot boxes and this year another thirty were built by the students at Mt. Cheam School. This past summer the City of Chilliwack provided some funding for a fence that would replace the old construction fence that had been in place.
5 Corners Park
The City of Chilliwack established a temporary greenspace / park and parking lot at 5 corners in April 2014. The park was established in an open space left after the demolition of old downtown buildings. The park is a beautiful urban greenspace with a tranquil feeling situated in the heart of downtown Chilliwack. The park and parking lot have become a popular venue for outdoor leisure and community activities There are already signs of taking place on most weekends. Chilliwack Centre Of Excellence Paddling Club The CCE is a non-profit volunteer club that strives to promote personal achievement through safe and enjoyable paddling for all ages in both recreational and competitive kayaking. We paddle on flat water, whitewater, in the lake, river, pool, or ocean surf. Our history dates back to the 70’s when a small group of national team kayak hopefuls formed a club as a way of supporting their own training up at Tamihi and Cultus Lake. They never had much money and most of what they did was free or inexpensive, but they loved to paddle! Eventually the club became the Chilliwack Centre of Excellence and we still offer many free paddles today. Membership provides you with a boat, gear, and pleasant company for Saturday morning leisure at Cultus Lake, special evening excursions under the moon or meteors, as well as daytrips to Barrowtown, Harrison River, and the Hope Slough.
For those seeking more adventure or competitive slalom action, the CCE’s Coach Jon Allen teaches beginner lessons, introductory slalom sessions, rolling practice, and park n’ play wave surfing on the Chilliwack River. Jon is already an accomplished athlete, and as a certified coach runs competitive training programs in High Performance and Athlete Development. Olympic kayaking great David Ford and Canadian Champ Jazmyne Denhollander have roots with the CCE. Our kayakers also shine in the BC Championships, Tamihi 50, Northwest Cup Series, Icebreaker, and World Cups, as well as the BC Games and the Canadian National Whitewater Championships.

Gwynne Vaughan Park Park open dawn to dusk, 365 days a year. Everyone Welcome! Explore Chilliwack’s most beautiful and unique park, at the corner of Williams Road and Hope River Road. Home to heritage and specimen trees, a wide variety of shrubs and roses, and a large formal perennial border, the Gwynne Vaughan Park with its Rotary Pavilion is a popular site for weddings, club picnics and family gatherings. Almost seven acres of gardens, lawns, fields and a heritage orchard surround an 1896 house.

If you live in an apartment or condo and want to grow your own vegetables and flowers, sign up for a Community Garden plot at the Gwynne Vaughan Park. A community garden plot allows you to grow your own food, meet new friends, share ideas and expertise with fellow gardeners, and enjoy the Park together. For more information phone 604 858 6310.
Volunteers are needed to maintain and enhance the beautiful gardens at the Gwynne Vaughan Park. If you are a gardener, or would like to become one, and spend time with other friendly gardeners, join the Friends of the Park. Come out and discover this peaceful place, enjoy a walk and watch for the wide variety of wildlife including one of the largest breeding colonies of Great Blue Herons in B.C. Hundreds of herons nest on site every year from March to July. There are no admission fees to walk the site or to visit the Rotary Interpretive Centre. The Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve is a beautiful wetland located along the Vedder River at the south end of Sumas Prairie Road in Greendale. The programs and services at this City of Chilliwack site are managed by the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve Society.

First Aid Courses Red Cross First Aid Goal: “Improve quality of life by preparing to make safe choices, prevent injuries, and help in emergency situations.” Red Cross Slogan: Red Cross First Aid. The Experience to Make a Difference. First Aid Programs and Courses: Canadian Red Cross Injury Prevention has both individual course and programs. All CPR/AED and First Aid components of Canadian Red Cross courses are taught in accordance with ILCOR and the National Training Agencies. Course Length: 8 hours Canadian Red Cross core First Aid & CPR courses offer lifesaving first aid skills. Lifesaving Instructor Description: A Lifesaving Instructor (LSI) is trained to teach and evaluate the Canadian Swim Patrol program, Bronze programs, Fitness, and Excellence programs. Instructor candidates are taught learning styles and teaching methods as they apply to water rescue, first aid and related aquatic skills in the Canadian Lifesaving Program. Candidates also learn about long-range and short-term planning, class management, safety supervision and the principles of evaluation. The Lifesaving Instructor certification is the prerequisite for all other Lifesaving Society instructor certifications. Prerequisite(s): Bronze Cross and 16 years old (by last day of course)
Aqua Club 4 Bronze Cross Description: Bronze Cross is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge or more advanced training including an introduction to safety supervision in aquatic facilities. Candidates develop proficiency at performing patient assessments, managing aquatic spinal injuries, and preventing the loss of life in a variety of aquatic emergencies, while developing stroke endurance and fitness training skills. Bronze Cross includes the CPR-C certification and is one of the prerequisite awards for all advanced Lifeguarding and Leadership training programs. Bronze Cross is worth 2 Grade 11 High School credits. Prerequisite(s): Bronze Medallion Aqua Club 3 Bronze Medallion Description: Bronze Medallion teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education – judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn self-rescue techniques, defense and release methods, and tows and carries in preparation for challenging rescues involving conscious and unconscious victims of various types, including spinal injuries and circulatory emergencies. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a timed swim. Bronze Medallion includes the CPR-A certification. Prerequisite(s): 13 years old (by last day of course) or Bronze Star National Lifeguard (NL) Description: The NL Pool certification is designed to develop the fundamental values, judgment, knowledge, skills and fitness required by lifeguards. The NL course emphasizes the lifeguarding skills, principles and practices, and the decision-making processes which will assist the lifeguard to provide effective safety supervision in swimming pool environments. Water Safety Instructor Description: Instructor candidates focus on how to apply information from the Assistant Water Safety Instructor course and develop additional instructional skills, stroke development, drills and corrective strategies to plan, teach and evaluate the Red Cross Swim continuum. Prerequisite(s): Assistant Water Safety Instructor and 15 years old (by last day of course) Advanced Aquatic Leadership Training (ALT) Lifeguard Description: This lifeguarding course package includes the following awards: ALT Basic Lifeguard Level 1, Standard First Aid including CPR-C and AED, and National Lifeguard (NL). This course is the final one in becoming a certified pool lifeguard. The training is designed to teach the principles and develop the lifeguarding skills to effectively manage pool emergencies. Basketball Weekday sessions will focus on basketball skills that will help the players develop coordination and body movement skills to help them play games. Saturdays are game days! Mini-Soccer Children aged 5-8 can learn and practice basic soccer skills, make new friends, and get a love for the game. Each day is full of fun and excitement as they progresses into a future star. Each day focuses on a different aspect of the game which makes it exciting for your child. The days end with a non-competitive mini-game, kids vs. parents! Kids always win.
Karate Martial Arts that caters to all walks of life from young to young at heart taught by a Sensei that has over 27 years of Karate experience. Join in the traditional Okinawan Martial Art of IsshinRyu that has roots in the most respected styles in the Karate world, Goju Ryu and Shorin Ryu. Also learn Kobudo (weapons), Jui Jitsu, Brazilian Jui Jitsu, Hindiandi and Escrima (Phillipino cane fighting) among many more factions of Martial Arts. Power Circuit Power through cardio and strength exercises in this exciting class. Move from different exercises to develop strength, aerobic and anaerobic endurance, flexibility and coordination. Sit & Be Fit This is a seated class for seniors or beginners to fitness incorporating cardio, strength, balance, and flexibility training. Step Enjoy a high-energy choreographed step class to elevate your heart rate and burn calories.
Step, Strength & Stability This is a class that features 45 min (approx.) of high energy, choreographed step, followed by 35 min (approx.) strength and conditioning, and ending with a 10 min. full-body stretch. Burn calories, gain strength and stamina in the 1.5 hour class Total Body Blast This strength and conditioning class is designed tone and tighten muscles from head to toe followed by stretches to target those tight muscles and improve flexibility. Yoga A dynamic sequence of postures that synchronizes breath with movement and integrates awareness and alignment, as well as strength and flexibility. Sequencing may include sun salutations, standing, arm balancing, inverted, and seated postures. Adult Getting Started in Curling Program
A comprehensive curling program that helps entry level and novice curlers get progressively better through continued weekly instruction and skill development. • Sundays at 2:30 pm starting October 12. • 6 weeks of instruction followed by 10 weeks of games. • Low student-to-instructor ratio. • $250 (tax included). Formed in 1952, the Chilliwack Curling Club is a full-service curling facility with six regulation curling sheets and a fully stocked pro shop. Our club has hosted many regional, provincial and national championships throughout the years.

We offer a unique continuous swim lesson system. At the Y, you no longer need to scramble every season to ensure your child gets a convenient swim lesson time. We offer swim lessons on a continuous basis and once you’ve signed up and selected your spot, it’s yours to keep. This means you do not need to register every season and you don’t have to worry about having your slot taken by someone else. You can register your child at any time and they can progress at their own pace within a group. • We help kids jump in, have fun, learn to swim and grow their confidence. • Our programs—from Bobbers to Stars—give your kids the skills needed for a lifetime of safe fun in the water. • Membership makes it easy for families to be active together with recreational swimming and family swimming at convenient times. • Membership includes all-day access to Aquafit and lane swimming. • For those 16 and older who have their Bronze Cross, NLS or Star 6 accreditation already, we offer a course in how to become a YMCA Swim Instructor.

Helping kids grow up strong and healthy is why the YMCA exists. That’s why we offer MEND, a provincially funded program that empowers children and families to become fitter and healthier. This free and fun 10-week program supports children ages 7-13 who are above a healthy body weight to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Community Choir! This choir class will be an introduction to singing that is fun whilst learning some vocal basics and elements of harmony that are foundational to choral singing. Gina Balzer has had years of experience leading children in music. She values musical excellence, but approaches this goal with fun and creativity. Heritage Park Chilliwack Heritage Park is a 65 acre park that boasts a 150,000 square foot building which can accommodate a number of events. Trade Shows, Conventions, Concerts, Dog Shows, Horse Shows, Arena Cross Events, ABA BMX Bike Grand Nationals, Kart Racing and local club events just to name a few. There is a seven acre field for outdoor concerts and festivals as well as plenty of space for camping with your event. There is also a rodeo arena as well as two outdoor sand arenas for your many different equestrian and agricultural events. All arenas are equipped with outdoor lighting for those evening rentals. Heritage Park, which has been operational since July 2001, is ideally and conveniently located just off the Trans Canada Highway at Exit 116. This allows for easy access by those within Chilliwack as well as people living in the Lower mainland. The striking presence of this 150,000 square foot red building and 65 acre grounds also
attracts travellers from all over the Canada, as well as many visitors from the United States. Heritage Park is a versatile facility. Features include a flexible public address system, box office and show office. The building is comprised of four floors; two are concrete floors that measure approximately 35,000 square feet each. There is also a 48,000 square foot dirt floor and a 30,000 square foot dirt floor. We have 150 portable box stalls for your equestrian event that can be put up on either the concrete or dirt floors, depending on your requirements. The building houses a portable stage, as well as tables and chairs. Our washroom facilities include showers and are handicapped accessible. Heritage Park is not only a fine multiuse facility, but it also offers you a management and staff who are committed to your satisfaction. We would be pleased to work with you to help make your event a success.

Leisure Access Pass
Residents living within the City of Chilliwack who have limited financial resources, are encouraged to apply for a Leisure Access Pass. This pass will allow the holder a pricereduced entry into the Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre, Cheam Leisure Centre or any City run public program offered at Prospera Centre or Twin Rinks. Applications are available at the Parks, Recreation & Culture Department at Chilliwack City Hall, the Cheam Leisure Centre, the Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre or online at www.chilliwack.com
Grade 5 Get Active Facility Pass
With the primary purpose of increasing participation and fitness levels of Grade five students, the Chilliwack Active Communities Committee is pleased to provide the Grade 5 Get Active Facility Pass program. In partnership with the City of Chilliwack Parks, Recreation & Culture, Leisure Recreation Group, the Chilliwack Family YMCA and the Chilliwack School District this pass is made available to all grade five public, home or private schooled students in Chilliwack. The facility pass provides free admission to public swims, skates and selected drop-in sports from September 1st of the current year and expires August 31st of the following year.
