Eighteen students from nine junior high schools in Hokuto City, along with five chaperones, visited the municipal office on Aug. 11. Students had a chance to ask questions about the area while afterwards, council members enquired about the students’ hometown. Mayor Blair Painter spoke briefly about the municipality’s history, industry and recreational opportunities and then gifts were exchanged before the students continued on their whirlwind visit to Crowsnest Pass. Reconstructed hotel opens By Joni MacFarlane Editor

It was late in the evening and the cold air of an early winter chilled hundreds of residents as they huddled together watching a piece of Crowsnest Pass go up in flames. In November 2011, the Best Canadian Motor Inns (BCMI) Blairmore property was devastated by fire. After almost three years, owners announced reconstruction is now complete and the new Kanata Blairmore will be reopening in the next few weeks. General Manager Gary Farstad said the new

The property has been under reconstruction for over a year-and-a-half. managed by the local branch of Belfor Property Restoration under the direction of Project Manager Kevin Cox. Kanata Blairmore now has a total of 49 rooms, said Farstad, offering a selection of nine different types of rooms or categories, such as king size with a kitchen, two king size with a kitchen, queen size with a kitchen, queen size without a kitchen, and so on. Thirty of the rooms feature a kitchenette and

a Jacuzzi Suite features a gas fireplace, two 46” TVs and a king-size bed. The executive king-size suite has a balcony overlooking the river with a separate living area, said Farstad, and most of the high-end rooms feature two 46” TVs. Every room has its own independent WiFi router, ensuring guests have high speed internet that is not connected to any other rooms, he said, along with a fridge, coffee maker and microwave. Kitchenettes have full-size fridges with a stove, dishes and cooking utensils. Cont. next page...
