Ladysmith Days serves up summer fun
L
ooking for a weekend full of summer fun? Look no further than Ladysmith Days Aug. 2-3! An annual event that has been celebrating all things Ladysmith for more than 40 years, the two-day festival features a huge range of activities in downtown Ladysmith and at beautiful Transfer Beach, including live music, a parade, fireworks, games and more. Ladysmith Celebrations Society president Barry Frech is excited for some new additions and the return of old favourites this year. He says there will be a new, larger slide at Sunday’s Kids’ Zone, and laser tag and the climbing wall will be back. Frech is looking forward to hearing Kenny McCoy perform right before the fireworks. “He does country western and old-style music, and he just mixes it up,” he said. “It should be good entertainment for everybody.” Frech is also excited to see the Ladysmith Has Talent contest return. “That should be entertaining,” he said. “People really enjoy it.”

Watching the Kinsmen Parade is always a highlight during Ladysmith Days. This year’s parade along First Avenue in downtown Ladysmith takes place Saturday, Aug. 2 at 10:15 a.m. Participants will begin to line up at 7 a.m., and judging starts at 8:30 a.m. This year’s parade theme is “Ladysmith Has Summer Fun,” and ribbons will be presented in a variety of categories, including most comic entry, best themed entry and neatest antique vehicle. There is no entry fee for parade participants, and any groups who are interested in being part of this year’s parade can find more information and an entry form online at www.ladysmithkinsmen.ca.
