College football is returning to Swangard Stadium. The SFU Clan will play its six home games against NCAA opponents at the Central Park venue beginning in September. The Clan called Swangard home for a number of seasons when it was part of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport. But three years ago the school became the first Canadian institution to be accepted as a full member of the U.S. based NCAA and the team played its home games at Terry Fox Field on the Burnaby Mountain campus. “Swangard Stadium certainly has a rich history of hosting SFU athletic events,” said the team’s new head coach Jacques Chapdelaine, who’s also a Clan alumnus. “I have fond memories of my playing days at Swangard and I know the atmosphere that can be created at an event there.” Swangard has a seating capacity of 4,200 in its covered grandstand. The Clan’s first home game at Swangard is Sept. 6.
