A man who operated an illegal dental practice out of his former Burnaby home has pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion, says the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Tung Sheng “David” Wu was sentenced Wednesday in Vancouver Provincial Court to $33,000 in fines. Wu spent months on the lam last year after the College of Dental Surgeons of B.C. (CDSBC) received a tip from the public he had been operating a makeshift illegal dental office out of his rented house on Southwood Street. This was despite a lack of qualifications and a 2003 court order banning him from practising dentistry. The investigation sparked a warning to all his clients to be tested for bloodborne diseases after it was found Wu had been working in dirty conditions without adequate infection control systems. In November, Wu turned himself in to Toronto police and was returned to the Lower Mainland to serve his three-month sentence for contempt of court. see FaILed to rePort, a5
