People’s Take Everyone has a story to tell, but we don’t always get to hear it. Luckily, there is a place online where Prince George locals and visitors can share some of their best memories with the rest of the world. It can be found on our website, takeonPG.com, under the heading “People’sTake”. We went looking for people with a passion for Prince George, and – not surprisingly – we found some! These storytellers are the ones who know our city the best: some have grown up here, some arrived by default, and some were just passing through and decided to stay awhile. We asked them why they love Prince George, and the one thing they all agreed on was the people. “There’s something different about the people in PG compared to other cities. They’re caring, they’re passionate, they’re engaged in the community, and it almost feels like everyone has each other’s back. I like that,” explains Scott McWalter. Outdoors - Take in a piece of our natural paradise The Great White North is home to hundreds of outdoor experiences, each nothing short of incredible. In Prince George, we’re lucky enough to be planted right in the middle of some pretty amazing settings: glassy lakes, rolling hills, thick forests, and roaring rivers are only minutes from town. #24 Drop a line in all four seasons at Cobb Lake You’ll find an abundance of rainbow and brook trout west of Prince George at Cobb Lake. Look for the bald eagle circling the sky near the far end of the lake. #47 Find the falls in the Ancient Forest In the depths of the Ancient Forest, a hiking path leads to the base of a sparkling waterfall. Take a walk through the interpretive trails and make your way along the edge of the stream that flows at the bottom. #95 Roast hot dogs over a campfire at Opatcho Lake Nothing smells more like summer than a hot dog cooked over a fire! Stack up the logs at Opatcho Lake Recreation Site and whittle your own roasting stick to get that nice crisp char that gives it all the flavour.
#103 Traipse on volcanic rocks at Fort George Canyon Traverse Fort George Canyon and discover natural topographies. In the past, this area proved to have both advantages and disadvantages to those who used it. While the canyon provided ample fishing for First Nations, it was quite an obstacle for those travelling through the region. #135 Play hooky for the day and fish Ferguson Lake Not far from the city, Ferguson Lake is rich in history and stocked with trout. Dangle your line off the dock and settle in for a quiet afternoon next to the water. #155 Par up with a view at Aberdeen Glen Known as much for its beautiful scenery as for its immaculately groomed greens, Aberdeen Glen Golf Course has breathtaking views. Look out over the lush green valley at the 18th hole!
