57th Annual Williams Lake
Minor Hockey 2014
Year-End Challenge
~ President’s Message ~ Williams Lake Minor Hockey has had a successful 2013/2014 season with some of the highlights being: WLMHA hosted 5 House tournaments and 4 Rep Tournaments; all were very successful and had exciting finals with out of town teams submitting excellent feedback to tournament organizers. It has been a successful season for our rep teams; the Peewee Rep team won gold in their home tournament, the Midget Rep team met Prince George in the final of their home tournament and tied it up in the final minute of play forcing a shootout where Prince George took the title. The Bantam Reps have had a very successful year on the ice making it to three tournament finals and winning the Prince George Tournament. Our Bantam Rep female team played in 2 leagues for the 2013/2014 season, competing in the Cariboo Amateur Hockey, where they finished first in the league, and won the playoff series to advance to BC Championships, and also the Okanagan Mainline Hockey Association where they finished 2nd in the league. The 2013/2014 season was a successful one for our Officials as well! In November officials were invited to a development weekend in Quesnel, where they were evaluated and resulted in invitations to provincial championships, as well as U-16 championships. Additionally, each of the home tournaments had on ice evaluations to further develop Minor Hockey Officials.
youth organization, the community generously supports WLMHA throughout the year and as an association we wanted to give back to the community. WLMHA generated enough donations from teams that a 5 ton Cube van was filled and donated to the Salvation Army! The teams and volunteers involved in this made Williams Lake Minor Hockey and the community of Williams Lake proud. In closing, I would like to acknowledge the contributions to the Association from our Office Administrator/Registrar, Pam Povelofskie. Pam is responsible for the day to day operation of the office and assists each and every member of the executive board in their portfolios. I would also like to acknowledge the contributions of all of our volunteers, parents helping out during tournaments, team parents, managers, coaches, and Hockey Canada Safety people, these efforts are greatly appreciated. Finally, I would like to acknowledge the executive board of WLMHA. Without people like you volunteering, our teams would have not had the success that was achieved this season. I also would like to acknowledge the volunteers in the association that have volunteered for multiple duties. Thank you for going the extra step for the association. Good Luck to all teams in the Year end Challenge, and to all teams travelling to BC Hockey Championships or end of year tournaments. Paul Sorley, President In December 2013, WLMHA conducted a Williams Lake Minor Hockey Association food drive for the local Salvation Army. As a

~ Mayor’s Message ~ As another season wraps up, it is a good time to remember that minor hockey is a vital component of our community, and would not be possible without the dedication and hard work of players, coaches, volunteers, and parents. Hockey has the ability to bring us all together as we enjoy the team spirit and competition together at the rink. As a long-time hockey mom and now a hockey grandmother, I have a deep appreciation for the hard work and dedication that is involved in minor hockey. Parents get up early to support their children, and coaches and volunteers donate their time and talents to help them grow as athletes and as people. All of these people spend hundreds of hours at the rink. We cannot thank you enough for all that you do. To our young players: your enthusiasm to do your best and work together as a team is inspirational. The ideals and principles you learn now, playing the game of hockey, will follow you throughout their lives. Good luck to all the players, and remember to have fun, be safe, and enjoy this exciting Canadian sport! On behalf of the City of Williams Lake, I wish everyone good luck in the Year-End Challenge. Mayor Kerry Cook City of Williams Lake
Best of luck to all players in the Year-End Challenge.
