Decision delayed in coach case ROGER KNOX Morning Star Staff
An American cross-country ski coach from a Seattle private school, arrested in December after allegedly putting a video camera in the room of female students at Silver Star Mountain Resort, will spend at least one more week Jason Paur in custody.
Judge J. Cartwright announced Thursday at the end of a 45-minute bail hearing into the matter against Jason C. Paur that she will need a week to make a decision. A publication ban prevents media from reporting on what happened at the bail hearing. Crown counsel is seeking detention for Paur, 43, while defence is asking for his release from custody. Paur, 43, is facing 10 counts under the Criminal Code of Canada: three counts

Crime wave sounds alarm Morning Star Staff
Vernon residents are being warned about a crime wave. Since Feb. 1, there have been 28 thefts from vehicles reported to the local RCMP detachment. “All but one of them have been in the City of Vernon. The thefts are not confined to just one area of the city but all over,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson. “Our officers responding to the investigations are finding that vehicle owners are leaving their vehicles unlocked with items that attract thieves left in view.” The police are asking owners to be more diligent in not leaving items in plain view and to lock up their vehicles. Anyone who sees suspicious activity in their area, like early morning visits from someone you do not recognize or on a bike that appears to be checking vehicles, is asked to call the RCMP immediately.
