Holiday Greetings from Mayor Wendal Milne

Another year has quickly gone by and it is a time for most of us to be with our families and loved ones. This Christmas let us all take time out to think about those less fortunate than ourselves. Christmas is a time for giving and receiving, a time for sharing and for caring about others. It is a time for reaching out the hand of friendship and reconciliation to ensure all members of our community are included. I am always amazed by the amount of good work done by the many volunteers in our community and the warmth and generosity of spirit this represents. Sooke is the Volunteer Capital of Canada. I am honoured to be the Mayor of Sooke and I can assure you I will

continue to work hard so that a positive and lasting contribution can be made to our Town. I look forward to working with all members of our community in promoting inclusiveness, as we continue to make Sooke an even greater place. On a personal note, I would like to extend thanks to everyone for the warm and friendly support I have received over the past year. On behalf of the Councillors and staff at the District of Sooke, I wish you and your families all a safe, peaceful and joyful Christmas and a Happy New Year. Best wishes of the season to all! Wendal Milne, Mayor District of Sooke

The First Noel The first Noel the angel did say Was to certain poor Shepherds In fields as they lay; In fields where they lay Keeping their sheep on a cold winter’s night that was so deep. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel.

They looked up and saw a star Shining in the East beyond them far, And to the earth it gave great light, And so it continued both day and night. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel.

Happy Holidays!

And by the light of that same star Three Wise men came from country far; To seek for a King was their intent, And to follow the Star wherever it went.

Join our free knitting circle

This Star drew nigh to the Northwest, O’er Bethlehem it took its rest, And there it did both stop and stay, Right over the place where Jesus lay. Then entered in those Wise men three, Full reverently upon their knee, And offered there, in His presence, Their gold and myrrh and frankincense.

Silent Night Silver Bells City sidewalks, busy sidewalks, Dressed in holiday style. In the air there’s a feeling of Christmas, Children laughing, people passing, Meeting smile after smile, And on every street corner you hear: CHORUS Silver bells, silver bells, It’s Christmas time in the city. Ring-a-ling, hear them ring, Soon it will be Christmas day. City street lights, even stop lights, Blink a bright red and green, As the shoppers rush home with their treasures. Hear the snow crunch, See the kids bunch, This is Santa’s big scene, And above all this bustle you hear:

Silent night, Holy night, All is calm, all is bright, Round yon virgin mother and child Holy infant so tender and mild; Christ the Saviour is born, Christ the Saviour is born! Silent night, Holy night, Shepherds quake at the sight, Glories stream from heaven afar, Heav’nly hosts sing Alleluya; Christ the Saviour is born, Christ the Saviour is born! Silent night, Holy night, Son of God, love’s pure light Radiant beams from Thy Holy face, With the dawn of redeeming grace, Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth, Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth!

O Come, All Ye Faithful O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant, O Come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem! Come and behold Him, born the King of Angels. Refrain: O come, let us adore Him; O come, let us adore Him; O come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord. 2. Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation, O sing, all ye citizens of heaven above! Glory to God in the highest. Refrain: 3. Yea, Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning, Jesus to Thee be all glory given; Word of the Father now in flesh appearing.

I Believe In Santa Claus I believe in Santa Claus, I believe in him because, Ev’ry Christmas he’ll appear, With all his love and Christmas cheer, Leaving lots of Christmas toys For good little girls and boys. I believe in Santa Claus, I believe in him because With his reindeer and his sled, His snow white beard, and suit of red, He makes ev’ry Christmas Day, So beautiful, bright and gay, Now don’t be a doubting Thomas, and ridicule his name. Or he may take you off his list And that would be a shame. So with Christmas on the way, What a thrill it is to say, I believe in Santa Claus, And the joys of Christmas Day. 250-642-6366 6626 Sooke Road

Angels We Have Heard on High Angels we have heard on high, Sweetly singing o’er the plains, And the mountains in reply, Echoing their joyous strains. Refrain: Gloria in excelsis Deo; Gloria in excelsis Deo. 2. Shepherds, why this jubilee? Why your joyous strains prolong? What the glad some tidings be That inspire your heav’nly song? Refrain: 3. Come to Bethlehem and see Him whose birth the angels sing; Come, adore on bended knee, Christ the Lord, the newborn King. Refrain:

Frosty the Snowman Frosty the Snowman was a jolly happy soul, With a corn cob pipe and a button nose And two eyes made out of coal. Frosty the Snowman is a fairy tale, they say, He was made of snow but the children know How he came to life one day. There must have been some magic In that old silk hat they found, For when they placed it on his head, He began to dance around. Oh, Frosty the Snowman was alive as he could be. And the children say he could laugh and play Just the same as you and me.

Let It Snow Let It Snow Oh! the weather outside is frightful, But the fire is so delightful, And since we’ve no place to go, Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow! It doesn’t show signs of stopping, But I brought some corn for popping, The lights are turn’d way down low, Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow! When we finally kiss goodnight, How I’ll hate going out in the storm! But if you’ll really hold me tight, All the way home, I’ll be warm. The fire is slowly dying, And, my dear, we’re still good-byeing, But as long as you love me so, Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

Jingle Bells Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way; Oh what fun it is to ride, In a one-horse open sleigh. Dashing thru the snow, In a one horse open sleigh; O’er the fields we go, Laughing all the way; Bells on bobtail ring, Making spirits bright; What fun it is to ride and sing A sleighing song tonight! CHORUS Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way; Oh what fun it is to ride, In a one-horse open sleigh. A day or two ago, I thought I’d take a ride; And soon Miss Fannie Bright, Was seated by my side; The horse was lean and lank; Misfortune seem’d his lot, He got into a drifted bank, And then we got upshot! CHORUS Now the ground is white, Go it while you’re young, Take the girls tonight, And sing the sleighing song; Just get a bobtail’d bay, Two forty for his speed, Then hitch him to an open sleigh, And crack! you’ll take the lead. CHORUS

Joyful, all ye nations rise, Join the triumph of the skies; With the angelic host proclaim, “Christ is born in Bethlehem.” Hark! the herald angels sing Glory to the new born King. Christ, by highest heaven adored, Christ, the everlasting Lord, Late in time behold him come, Offspring of a Virgin’s womb, Veiled in flesh the Godhead see! Hail, the incarnate Deity! Pleased as Man with man to dwell, Jesus, our Emmanuel. Hark! the herald angels sing Glory to the new born King. Hail, the heaven-born Prince of Peace! Hail, the Sun of Righteousness,Light and life to all he brings, Risen with healing in his wings, Mild he lays his glory by, Born that man no more may die, Born to raise the sons of earth, Born to give them second birth.

I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day

Holiday Hours Christmas Day CLOSED Boxing Day 11AM-10PM New Years Day 11AM-10PM

I heard the bells on Christmas Day Their old familiar carols play, And wild and sweet the words repeat Of peace on earth, goodwill to men.

And in despair I bowed my head; “There is no peace on earth,” I said, “For hate is strong and mocks the song Of peace on earth, goodwill to men.” Then pealed the bells more loud and deep: “God is not dead, nor doth He sleep; The wrong shall fail, the right prevail, With peace on earth, goodwill to men.”

Good King Wenceslas Good King Wenceslas looked out, On the feast of Stephen, When the snow lay’round about, Deep and crisp and even. Brightly shone the moon that night, Though the frost was cruel, When a poor man came in sight, Gath’ring winter fuel. “Hither, page, and stand by me, If you know’st it telling, Yonder peasant, who is he, Where and what his dwelling?” “Sire, he lives a good league hence, Underneath the mountain, Right against the forest fence By Saint Agnes’ fountain.” “Bring me flesh and bring me wine, Bring me pine logs hither, Thou and I will see him dine When we bear them thither.” Page and Monarch, forth they went, Forth they went together Through the rude winds’ wild lament And the bitter weather.
