Pianist Hagen joins Timbre! in concert SUSAN QUINN ALBERNI VALLEY NEWS

When Timbre! Choir takes to the stage at the new Alberni District Secondary School Theatre on Sunday, Dec. 15, nationally-acclaimed pianist Sarah Hagen will join them at the concert grand piano. Timbre will perform from the Messiah, sing traditional Christmas carols and music from John Rutter as well as more popular music from the Polar Express, choir spokesperson Barry Miller said. Cory Miller will play the trumpet and Michelle Weckesser joins them from Chemainus as soloist. This will be Timbre’s first appearance in the new theatre. Also joining the choir will be the Russel Cripps Vocal Group and Alberni Valley United Church Handbell Choir. The concert begins at 2:30 p.m. Advance tickets for A Christmas Celebration are $15 for adults ($5 for children and students) and may still be available at Rollin Art Centre, Echo Centre or Salmonberry’s Emporium.

Players bring Wizard of Oz to Capitol stage Portal Players Dramatic Society presents a beloved family-friendly musical, The Wizard of Oz, as part of their 2013-14 season next February and March. Dorothy and the entire cast of Oz characters will appear on stage at The Capitol Theatre next year, starting Feb. 21. A stunning set and costumes are just two of the elements that will engage audience members of all ages. some new faces to Port Alberni’s musical scene along with some well-known performers.

Directed by Elliot Drew and Denis Levasseur, performers include children and adults performing favourite numbers from The Wizard of Oz. Tickets are available at the Capitol Theatre box office during regular hours, Monday through Thursday from 3–7 p.m., at the Rollin Art Centre or online at www. atthecapitol.org. Advance tickets are $17 for ages 12 and under and $22 for adults. Tickets at the door will be $20 for ages 12 and under and $25 for adults.
