Mitsubishi will unveil three world premiere concept cars later this month at the 43rd Tokyo Motor Show. The AR concept (left) is a next-generation compact MPV, which combines SUV maneuverability with MPV roominess. It uses a lightweight mild hybrid system, which comprises a downsized 1.1-litre direct-injection turbocharged MIVEC engine. The GC-PHEV (centre) is a full-size SUV with full-time 4WD. It is based on a front engine; rear-wheel drive layout plug-in hybrid EV (PHEV) system comprising a 3.0-litre V6 supercharged MIVEC engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, with a high-output motor and a high-capacity battery to deliver all-terrain performance. The compact XR-PHEV (right) uses a front engine, front-wheel drive layout PHEV system configured with a downsized 1.1-litre direct-injection turbocharged MIVEC engine, a lightweight, compact and high-efficiency motor with a high-capacity battery. All three concepts feature "e-Assist" active safety technologies and the advanced "connected car" technology. These functions include a danger detection system, which activates the corresponding safety functions.

Green car journal to reveal winner at Green Car Journal has identified its five finalists for the magazine’s high-profile 2014 Green Car of the Year program. The five 2014 models include the Audi A6 TDI, BMW 328d, Honda Accord, Mazda3, and Toyota Corolla. These five finalists are also honoured as Green Car Journal’s “Top 5 Green Cars for 2014” and earn the magazine’s “Green Car Product of Excellence” honors. An increasing number of vehicle models are considered for the program each year, a reflection of the auto industry’s expanding efforts in offering new vehicles with higher efficiency and improved environmental impact. Green Car Journal has been honouring the most important “green” vehicles every year at the LA Auto Show, since its inaugural award announced at the show in 2005.

She has given of herself, her talents and her humanity to countless thousands of students. She has travelled all over the province to assist with musical productions at high schools, as well as community theatre groups. Her work at Burnaby South High School inspired many other schools to get involved in school musicals. She choreographed musicals at Terry Fox Senior Secondary for 25 years and for 21 Dolores Kirkwood years, she has been artistic director of the Royal City Youth Ballet Company. Ms. Kirkwood has been honoured as New Westminster’s Citizen of the Year, won the Sam Payne Award for nourishing young talent, and in 1996 was admitted to BC’s Entertainment Hall of Fame.

Say hy to five new hybrids There’s a new breed of hybrids hitting the streets that are closer in performance and price to their gasoline counterparts. Hybrids not only save on gasoline, they also save on maintenance, especially brake system repairs, and they typically come with longer drivetrain warranties. These new hybrid examples are all entries for 2014 Canadian Car of the Year. The braking and acceleration stats are from the recent Testfest evaluation event. Jetta Hybrid is not just the first Volkswagen hybrid; it’s the first hybrid with a turbocharged gas engine and a rapid-shift 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox (DSG), instead of the usual CVT automatic. A compact lithium-ion battery pack also takes up less trunk space and even allows a pass-through feature (with fold-down rear seats) for longer items.
