Fundamental Movements School 18–36MONTHS, 3–5YRS, 6–9YRS Whether you want your child to get an active start in life, become a better overall athlete, or increase their sport specific performance, the Richmond Olympic Oval Fundamental Movements School will ensure your child becomes physically literate from an early age, creating a cycle of confidence and motivation that will put your child on the path to both physical and mental health and success for the rest of their lives. Each week your child will participate in fun and high energy games and skill builders designed to develop, refine, and master fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, and throwing as well as agility, balance, and coordination. All in a world-class multi-sport facility with instructors that are all Fundamental Movement Skills accredited by the National Coaching Certification Program.

Rally Cap Baseball 5–9YRS, CO-ED Catching, hitting, throwing, and general knowledge, learn the basics of baseball and have fun with the Baseball Canada endorsed Rally Cap program.

Multi-Sport 9–12YRS, CO-ED Learn it all! Basketball, badminton, volleyball, soccer, baseball, table tennis and more. Multi-Sport offers an incredible variety of skill development that will generate a broad base of sport skills.

For climbers looking for a change in perspective, this course covers all aspects of the lead climbing system. Participants must have solid Top-Rope belaying and climbing skills as this course is more technically and physically demanding.

Rhythmic Gymnastics

Sport Climbing 9–12YRS or 11–15YRS, CO-ED

Aura Rhythmic Gymnastics, 5–12YRS, CO-ED

This 10-week program focuses on fundamental climbing skills, movement preparation and developing a love for the activity. Participants will learn to belay in the first few classes. All equipment is included.

Competition Climbing 11–16YRS, CO-ED For passionate young climbers who want to learn about competition climbing. Explore training systems and competition strategies. Please ask for staff/coach recommendation for this program.

Climbing Movement Clinics 18+YRS, CO-ED These one-time clinics focus on technical movement skills and climbing strategy. There are 3 levels. Course Pre-Requisite: participants must know how to belay.

Golf RICHMONDOVAL.CA/WINTERGOLF

Progressive Golf 6–9YRS, CO-ED Developed in partnership with BC Golf, this program is targeted at both beginner golfers and those looking to increase their skills. Participants will learn the fundamentals of putting, chipping, pitching, and driving in a fun environment with a new custom made indoor course each week.

Baseball, 8–13YRS, CO-ED Let our Oval coaches bring your child’s hitting, pitching, throwing, catching, and offensive and defensive strategies to the next level.

Taught by Aura Rhythmic Gymnastics Coaches, participants will be guided via stretching, flexibility, dance, and rhythmic gymnastics body technique using ropes, hoops, balls, and ribbons in harmony to music. Recreational rhythmic gymnastics focuses on having fun while learning new skills.

Learn to Row Adult and Juniors Our qualified coaches will take you through the basics of the rowing stroke, provide valuable information about fitness and prepare you for on-water rowing. This class takes place in the Richmond Olympic Oval’s state of the art indoor rowing tank and is a pre-requisite for all learn to row programs at the John M.S. Lecky UBC Boathouse. No experience required.

Hockey 4–5YRS, CO-ED This program focuses on fundamental skating and introductory hockey skills through fun activities and games. All participants must be able to skate forwards with balance and control. Full hockey gear is required.

This progressive program is taught by experienced and enthusiastic skating instructors and focuses on the development of fundamental skating skills. Participants will be grouped according to skill level on the first day of lessons and will receive a progress report card at the end of the program.

Power Skating 6–9YRS, 9–12YRS, CO-ED Using innovative techniques developed by coaches at the Oval, each player’s individual stride will be assessed and broken down to increase power, efficiency, explosiveness and edge control. All athletes should have a solid skating foundation.

Speed Skating RICHMONDOVAL.CA/WINTERSPEEDSKATING

Learn to Speed Skate 9–12YRS, CO-ED Designed for novice speed skaters, this program develops basic speed-skating technique for racing. Speed skates and helmets are provided, gloves and knee pads highly recommended. Demonstrated basic skating proficiency required or completed LTS level 3

Physical Prep on Ice 12–19YRS, CO-ED Physical Prep complements your club training with additional skating volume under the supervision of Head Coach David Morrison. Build a substantial sport specific training base with monitored training laps.

Racing on Skates 9–13YRS, CO-ED Racing on Skates is about harnessing your breakaway speed to complete fast, fun, speed and fitness challenges on hockey skates. Racing on Skates is your fitness agility challenge to test your application of speed on ice! Full Hockey gear, no stick. Demonstrated skating proficiency required.

Speed Development 9–19YRS, CO-ED Improve your top end speed with an 8 week speed development program. Complement your club training with additional speed development under the supervision of Head Coach David Morrison.

Tactical Development 12–19YRS, CO-ED Improve your race smarts and tactical execution with a 4-week tactical development program. Complement your club training with additional tactical development under the supervision of Head Coach David Morrison. Program includes track patterns, passing, leading, drafting, starts and race position.
