were off this year but that’s okay with Principal Linda Thiel. “Our enrollment is actually higher t h a n p ro j e c t e d we are down a few from last year, but up from where we thought we’d be,” T h i e l ex p l a i n e d , “as of September 6, we had 168 stud e n t s e n ro l l e d . ” Thiel said the
school’s focus this year is on “self regulation”. “Helping our children learn to self regulate will reduce stress and anxiety and build self esteem,” she said. “The program is designed to assist in social development as well as academic achievement.” One component of the program be-
ing introduced this m o n t h w i l l h ave physical education instruction include teaching students to play traditional playground games - things like hopscotch, red rover and others. “These are games that have been lost t o k i d s ove r t h e years,” Thiel said. “As part of the self regulation program,
it will also provide them with games to play at recess and lunch.” The school is also involved in the MindUP program, a research-based training program for educators and children. MindUp also helps children learn to self regulate, resulting in a calmer student who is ready to learn.

Transit future bus rolls through Keremeos By Steve Arstad news@keremeosreview.com
The Village of Keremeos played host to a visit from the province’s Transit Future Bus on September 10. BC Transit turned the 40-foot decommissioned bus into a mobile interactive public consultation tool. Educational displays inside included a draft of the South Okanagan’s 25-year transit plan. “This is the kick off point for public participation in future transit plans,” said Steve Harvard, Senior Regional Transit Manager for BC Transit. “It’s our initial consultation with the local public to find out what is lacking in transit, and find out what we need to do to work out suitable transit programs, both within and between communities. We’re here to find out what the needs of the community are.” Harvard met with local officials upon his arrival in Keremeos, including members of the Lower Similkameen Community Services Society. A handful of residents had also left comments on a bulletin board inside the bus. “What I’ve been hearing is that people are requesting an additional trip into Penticton,” Harvard explained. “Similar to the existing service.” (Currently, a Handi Dart bus is available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, making one trip from Princeton through Keremeos to Penticton and returning the same day).
Regionally, a better connection to Kelowna is also being requested, Harvard said. “We’ve heard from the Interior Health Authority and local residents as well,” he said. “People would like to see connecting runs between the Princeton bus and local schedules in Penticton, timing the runs with the commuter schedule.” Harvard said that he had also heard from mobile home residents in the Olalla area who were looking for service to their communities, in addition to farmworkers who were looking for regional transportation options. Costs of future improvements in local transit service would be split three ways - one third through fare collection, one third from BC Transit and one third from local government, said BC Transit Transportation Planner Adriana McMullen, who was also aboard the bus. The buses’ arrival at the Infocentre in Keremeos signaled the first public engagement process for developing the Okanagan Similkameen 25 year Transit Future Plan. The plan is expected to create a vision for transit in the region, in addition to guiding and prioritizes future investment in the transit system. It will also identify key transit corridors and the supporting local transit network and infrastructure, as well as encourage transit supportive land use. The next step in the process will involve stakeholder workshops.
Regional district board wants exception to Canada Post policy Not all residents are receiving pertinent notices from the regional district By Steve Arstad news@keremeosreview.com The regional district board has a problem with Canada Post. Chief Administrative Office Bill Newell suggested to the board at the regular meeting September 5 that the regional district would be “Stepping up the campaign” to have unaddressed ad mail from
the regionial district delivered to all mail boxes, including those Canada Post customers who do not wish unaddressed ad mail. The regional district often uses the service to send advisories to residents regarding such things as water quality and boil water notices. The issue came to light earlier this year when roughly half of Olalla residents claimed not to have received a boil water notice. “We’ve had discussions with Canada Post over the years,” Newell said, “but they have refused to deliver unaddressed ad mail based on the wishes of their customers.”
Area “D” Director Tom Siddon suggested that the regional district look at alternate services, as it appeared that rural mail services could be in danger of closing. He noted that the regional district was looking for an exemption in the unaddressed ad mail policy from Canada Post. Olalla (Area”G”) Director Angelique Wood noted that the regional district had also sent notices as addressed mail to Olalla residents, where it was reported that half of the residents still reported that they did not receive the notice.

Residents urged to come out to Memorial Park to celebrate Sizzlefest By Steve Arstad news@keremeosreview.com Keremeos’ September celebration known as Sizzlefest takes place this Saturday, September 21. Similkameen Country, sponsors for the event, are hoping for a few more volunteers to help out with set up and take down for the event. “Even if someone has only an hour to spend, it would help us out a lot,” said Similkameen Country spokesperson Collen Christensen. Christensen expressed hope that the community would come forward and support the event this year - by participating in the raffle and 50-50 draws, and by participating in the event itself. Sizzlefest has a complete line up of events this year that will provide something for
everyone, Christensen added. Kids’ entertainment will include the climbing wall again this year, and other events include a chili cookoff, the Sear Factor chili eating contest and a hot sauce competition. Entertainers this year include Mat Dufus, the Blackbirds, Rob Robertson and the Corner Turtles. The Keremeos and District Volunteer Fire Department will host a pancake breakfast and the beverage garden will feature Cannery Brewing Company products and local wines. “We have vendors coming from Summerland to the Lower Mainland,” Christensen added, “we really hope Keremeos and Lower Similkameen residents will come out and enjoy this final outdoor festival of the season with us.”

On July 26, 2012, pursuant to the Utilities Commission Act, FortisBC (electric) Inc. (FortisBC) filed an application for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) for the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Project. On July 23,2013, the Commission granted CPCN Order C-7-13 (the Decision) for the AMI Project subject to the condition that FortisBC confirm in writing that it will file an application for an opt-out provision by November 1, 2013 based on principles set out in the Decision.
The Regulatory Timetable including the deadline for Intervener and Interested Party registrations will be established in a future Commission order and will be accessible on the Commission website.
On August 30, 2013, FortisBC filed an application for a Radio-Off AMI Meter Option (the Application) based on principles set out by the Commission Panel in the Decision. The Application sets out the fees and process for customers who choose the Radio-Off AMI Meter Option.
INTERVENTIONS Persons wishing to actively participate in the FortisBC proceeding must register as Interveners through the Commission’s website at www.bcuc.com as soon as possible. In their registration, Interveners must identify the issues that they intend to pursue and indicate the extent of their anticipated involvement in the review process. Interveners will each receive a copy of all non-confidential correspondence and filed documentation, and must provide an email address if available. Non-residents of the FortisBC service area must state why their interests are affected; the Commission Panel may otherwise restrict registration to residents of the FortisBC service area. Persons not expecting to actively participate, but who have an interest in the proceeding, should register as Interested Parties through the Commission’s website or in writing, as soon as possible, identifying their interest in the proceeding. By participating and/or providing comment on the Application, you agree that all submissions and/or correspondence received will be placed on the public record and posted on the Commission’s website.

Vandalism damages more than material objects By Steve Arstad news@keremeosreview.com Sometime betweent the hours of 6:30 p.m. Wednesday , September 11, and Thursday around 10:30 a.m., Ed Burmaster’s RV was vandalized. The 35 foot long, 1997 Triple E motorhome had been parked on the old fruit packinghouse grounds across from the Red Bridge Pub, off and on, for the previous 10 days. Sometime during the above mentioned time period, the motorhome was spray painted in black paint - inside and out. Burmaster has been devastated by the act. “I have no idea at this point how much damage was done, or even if it can be repaired,” he said in frustration. He is also aware of the fact that time is quickly running out for this year’s potential sale window for vehicles such as his. “I’m guessing by the time repairs are done, the RV season will be over,” he conceded. “I’ll lose the opportunity to sell it this year.”
There was a certain urgency to the sale of the motorhome. “I was selling it in order to help pay for the cost of keeping my wife at Orchard Haven,” he said Burmaster has spent the last several days pondering what possible motive a person or persons - could have to do such a thing. He’s also aware of other senseless acts of vandalism that have taken place locally in the past few weeks. “Kids always get into a little trouble,” he said, admitting to mischief like tipping over outhouses on Halloween night, when he was a kid. “It’s a different world today,” he realized, adding that his stomach has been upset for the past few days as he attempts to deal with the damage. “I was insured, but I’m not sure what can be done for damage like this,” he said, adding that because of the unit’s size, there are only a limited number of places that would likely be able to do the work. The motorhome was priced at $25,000. “It’s beyond me why anyone would do this,” he said helplessly. “There wasn’t anything of value left in the vehicle worth stealing - I just don’t understand it.”

The Ambry Storage facility on Veteran’s way was victim to a break in last week. A trailer was broken into and internal damage done, reported Corporal Martin Trudeau of the Keremeos RCMP. Another RV parked on Veterans way was also damaged by vandals who spray painted it in and out, causing
extensive damage. “It is very unfortunate that some people would have such a lack of respect for other people’s property. Many community members are expressing their disgust for this kind of behavior, which some associate to the increase of transient people traveling through town during the summer months,” Trudeau said. “Whether transient people are responsible for this
or not, it is the behavior of only a few people which gives a bad name and a bad reputation to everyone else and we (the police) know from dealing with transients and seasonal farm workers that most are good and respectful.” Trudeau also had a message for those responsible for recent acts of vandalism in the community. “This type of behaviour is nothing more than a show of disrespect
towards the community that these people either live in or have come to work in - maybe it’s time for their friends to report this type of behavior to the police so that not everyone gets painted with the same brush.” Anyone with information regarding these or any other acts of vandalism in the community should contact the Keremeos RCMP at 250-499-5511, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-337-8477.

Editorial Citizens getting the job done Tulameen’s Raise the Roof project could provide the regional district with an example of how future projects of this kind should be carried out in the region. The community of Tulameen really seems to have gotten their act together over this project and so far, it appears that mimimal government involvement in the construction of a roof over the community’s ice surface has been the most helpful way regional government could involve itself in the project. Residents were responsible for tracking down, applying for and receiving the grant funding as well as for putting together a workable plan of in-kind and volunteer labour that would make the project affordable. The Regional District Okanagan - Similkameen provided the necessary government oversight to allow the grant money to flow from one government level to another, then essentially got out of the way to let the volunteers get on with it. The regional district board even unanimously approved the Raise the Roof committee’s Request For Proposal at a recent board meeting, in spite of some directors apprehension over its unusual nature in being a mixture of contracted help, volunteer, in-kind and donated labour. More recently, the board also agreed to allow the project to keep interest earned on the grant money that was sitting in regional district accounts since last year - a savvy request on the part of the Raise the Roof Committee that also has prompted the board to look at its policy regarding interest earnings on grant money. We hope that Tulameen residents will be skating under a new roof this winter. If so, it will provide a shining example of what a small community can achieve when it collectively puts its mind to it. It will also provide a shining example of an effective role the regional district can play in making these projects happen - by knowing when to involve itself, and when to let the citizens of the regional district help themselves.

B.C. cities a $10 billion operation - but still cry poor By Jordan Bateman Canadian Taxpayers Federation Don’t hold your breath hoping mayors and councillors will come home from this month’s Union of B.C. Municipalities conference with a stack of cost-saving ideas and strategies. In 2011, cities in B.C. combined to bring in $7.87 billion in revenue. Regional districts added another $1.6 billion. Throw in TransLink and its $1.3 billion and you have a combined annual budget of $10.77 billion to run everything from Abbotsford to Zeballos. To put that into perspective, if local government were a provincial government ministry, it would be bigger than anything except health, and more than double the size of education. It’s more than the premier’s office, and departments of aboriginal relations, advanced education, agriculture, children and family development,
citizens services, energy, environment, finance, forests, jobs, justice, social development and transportation – combined. That’s a lot of government spending. But the UBCM, yet again, is focused fully on manufacturing ways to extract more money out of federal and provincial taxpayers. In a book of 155 policy resolutions to be considered by mayors and councillors, only five would save taxpayers any money – and three of those will save pennies at best. Squamish is looking for something a bit more substantial, by getting the provincial government to overturn a decision that ties firefighter wages across B.C. to the Vancouver salary structure. And Cranbrook wants to add a second, cheaper level of policing called peace officers – an idea deemed unworthy of a recommendation by the UBCM policy committee. And that’s it. Slim pickings, to say the least.
The centerpiece of the conference will be a debate over a policy paper on local government finance reform or, in layman’s terms, “how to get more money from Ottawa and Victoria.” On page 102 comes the only concrete cost-saving suggestion – sharing services across municipalities. Great idea, but given just a page-and-a-half, and buried on page 102 of a 115-page document. And that’s it. A pageand-a-half in after 101 pages of discussion on whether cities should get a cut of income taxes, the PST, targeted consumption taxes, property transfer taxes, hotel room tax, fuel tax, carbon tax and resource revenues. The provincial government should reject any suggestion of sharing more tax dollars until municipalities and regional districts agree to embrace public sector wage mandates, aggressively cut costs and find efficiencies. It can be done: Penticton has frozen property taxes

for three straight years thanks to its focus on core services and negotiating lower starting wages with their union. So how cash-strapped are our local governments? Well, not enough to cut their own wages. Or eliminate programs that are not purely infrastructure or health and safety. Or to aggressively cut regulation so they do not need to continually add staff and consultants. They’re also not cashstrapped enough to follow the provincial government’s lead and bring in two years of net zero wage freezes. Or to follow that up with two years of cooperative gains, where unions have to help find cost savings to fund their own raises. And they’re certainly not cash-strapped enough to actually schedule a UBCM session on money-saving best practices or offer up any significant work on cutting costs. Why bother, when shaking down taxpayers is so much easier?

Visitor praises resident’s efforts to help To the Editor: Hello, I just wanted to take a moment to recognize one of your outstanding employees, Colleen Christensen. On Monday, August 26th when I arrived home in Kamloops after a long day of traveling, I realized that I had left my wallet at a fruit stand while passing through Keremeos. Not knowing the name of the fruit stand, and realizing that most retail locations had likely closed for the day, I happened across the Keremeos Visitor Centre website and called the number listed. Although closed, there was a cell phone number offered on the voicemail. I crossed my fingers and called the cell phone, knowing that I was bothering someone at home.
When Colleen answered, not only was she not bothered, she offered to drive to the potential fruit stand to see if anyone was still around. Unfortunately, everyone had gone home by that point; however she ensured that I had all of the contact information required to follow up with them in the morning. The good news is that a kind employee at Sanderson Farms fruit stand found my wallet in the parking lot and I was able to successfully recover it. This is in no small part due to the assistance offered by Colleen who went above and beyond. The kindness of strangers in Keremeos is commendable and I hope that you will help me to recognize Colleen. Thank you! Kim Christiansen, Kamloops

Keremeos of the 1960s still had active train service To the Editor: I have been asked several times to put another letter in your paper as I have in the past, so here goes. I came to Keremeos in 1967 when I purchased a service station just east across the street from the present Bank of Commerce. There was a U.S. railroad here, and a long wooden packinghouse all down the track which burned early in my days here. There was a sawmill and millpond on Seventh Street where the present Seventh Street is now. There was no packinghouse where the present one is today, only a saw mill. Some one asked - “When does the train come?” My reply - “What are you looking for?” The reply - “a cat.” “Well, you will likely see an engine and flat car and caboose, and your cat will be on it.” I had hardly said that when a train whistle could be heard, and shortly after an engine, flat car with his cat on it appeared. I purchased 703-10th Avenue, a large house and an acre there. From that property to the hotel (the Red Bridge Pub) there was nothing except a ditch. All the houses in between have been built since then.
I came out of my business at 6 a.m. and someone had driven a car from my building right down to the end via the sidewalk at a screeching high speed. I was glad no one came out of their buildings when that was going on. One midnight I heard boards creeking at the Tasty Freeze. I phoned the RCMP and they caught the culprits. While interviewing them at the police station (at midnight) they got a phone call from police in the U.S. They said they had a robbery down there. Looking out the window, they saw the robbery car go by, just minutes later, and they got them also. In the morning they came and thanked me for spoiling their sleep, but they got two culprits. Stuff like that was not unusual in those days. My dad in the early days was at Spences Bridge. A slide dammed up the river, and caused a flood. At that time, Dad had thrown his bedroll on the platfrm. A ma came up and asked what was in the bedroll. Dad told him that it was none of his business. “I’ll make it my business,” the man said, flipping open his coat and revealing a star. He was looking for Bill Miner. - Wilf Miller, Keremeos
Hedley should be thankful for Telus’ support
To the Editor: I was deeply disappointed to see and hear Director Wood’s and Director Tom Siddon’s apparent criticism of Telus as they reluctantly accepted, that cell phone service will be coming to the people of Hedley. Instead of criticising Telus she should be thanking them on behalf of our entire town. Let’s not forget that the majority of residents in our town have wanted this service for a very very long time.
Due to the small population of our town, Telus is making an investment here that they may never recover. It’s a gift and we should be grateful to them (Telus) and to the person/persons who made this possible. Karl was present to discuss concerns about impacts to both rangeland by the Community Forest harvest, and about his corrals being blocked by other previous activity. (Though the corrals were not blocked by the Lower Similkameen Community Forest activities, the foresters present were interested In listening to Mr. Wa-
banegger’s experiences and working with him to make sure the problems were not repeated during the next phase of logging). Grant in Aid Allocation meeting, August 29 Donna Bartlett, representing “Friends of the Keremeos Skating Rink” had this to say about the meeting: “I thought the allocation meeting was a very interesting and enjoyable process. I learned a lot about other groups and it was great to meet other people who are so dedicated to the community. The work we all do fits together like a big puzzle. Tiffany and family toughing it out By Steve Arstad news@keremeosreview.com
Tiffany Looney has come a long way since 2008. The six year old daughter of Keremeos resident Asia Looney had a rough start to her life. In February of 2008, her parents, Asia and Sam, discovered that Tiffany suffered from Biliary Atresia, a liver disease. Her story appeared in the February 28, 2008 edition of the Review. At that time she was scheduled for a liver transplant at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, after spending two months in Vancouver at the B.C. Children’s Hospital. “We were so fortunate,” said Asia of the family’s experience in Edmonton. “Tiffany was only two weeks on the top of the list for transplants before a suitable donor was found. There was another girl on the list who waited six years.” Tiffany spent five months recovering from the transplant, with the family remaining in Edmonton for two months while Tiffany visited the hospital every two days. The family was back in the Similkameen only eight months before Tiffany ended up back in the hospital. “She became ill once again. A post operative infection resulted in her body rejecting her new liver,” Asia explained. It was back to the B.C. Children’s Hospital once again. this time to be in (for three weeks at a time) and out of the hospital over a one year period. “She got better, and did well for about two years,” Asia continued. “She has been having annual check ups, including three month follow ups.” It was during one of these visits that doctors discovered that Tiffany was now having issues with her kidneys. The medication she was taking to keep her body from rejecting her liver was now causing damage to her kidneys. Her teeth were also affected, resulting in extensive dental work as well. “She’s very strong willed - she’s been able to thrive in spite of all the troubles she has had. She knows she’s been through a lot,

Presently, Tiffany is taking kidney medication that slows her kidneys down, as they are working too hard. The six year old must take precautions to keep from getting sick; because of the immuno-suppresion medication, her immune system is almost non-existent. In spite of all her daughter’s troubles, Asia remains surprisingly optimistic. She feels that the kidney issues Tiffany is experiencing are more easily treated than her initial liver condition was - and other than that, she feels her daughter has done very well. Asia has suffered some health setbacks of her own recently. “I was diagnosed with cervical cancer,” she explained, “but two days before my hysterectomy, I found out I was pregnant.” However, Asia is excited about the prospect of a sister for Tiffany. It’s a girl - due December 5. My other miracle daughter,” she said happily.
Former student returns to hometown school to teach By Steve Arstad news@keremeosreview.com One could call it a Similkameen version of “Welcome Back, Kotter,” if one is old enough to remember the ‘70s TV series. Celia Brouwer is excited to return to the school she graduated from - this time as a teacher. Brouwer, who began instructing grade six students last week, has life long roots in Cawston, part of the Bush and Vesper families. She recently graduated from the West Kootenay Teacher Education Program in Castlegar, a program focussing on rural education. “I love it,” she said enthusiastically of her first week at Similkameen Elementary
Secondary School. “I’m really happy to be back in my home town, teaching.” Brouwer feels she received an interview for a position at the school because she was local. “I really care about my community. I’m passionate about it,” she said. Brouwer hopes to connect her students to the community more, by introducing them to other aspects of village life. This is the first teaching appointment for Brouwer, who credits the school for having a great mentorship program. “I’ve been partnered with Nikki Johnson. Her coaching has been amazing,” Brouwer said. Celia resides in Cawston with husband Ben.

Sean Donovan is quite happy with the change he is seeing in business at Keremeos Toonie. His business at the corner of Seventh Avenue and Seventh Street is fast becoming an example of what happens when a savvy business owner, consults with the local population - a thriving business that is seeing monthly increases in sales. Donovan began looking at changes last year, after becoming new owners of the Keremeos Hardware Store. “I found there was a lot of competition in selling Sean Donovan’s hardware - locally and region- greeting cards. ally,” he said. Donovan began a slow transition of stock, adding a few dollar store - type items to the shelves. “They sold really well,” he explained, “I decided to do a complete changeover. My thoughts were to concentrate on building a large variety of items not sold anywhere else in Keremeos.” The store metamorphosed from a hardware store to a dollar type store by May of this year. The change in business - and customer habit has been a postive one. “People are coming in, not for one specific item, but to come in and shop,” Donovan said. “There are over two thousand items on the shelves in the store now.” Indeed, a vast variety of items now line the

Keremeos Toonie now has a large selection of walls and shelves that used to harbour skill saws and kitchen appliances. Food items, small kitchen items, hobby and craft items, minor hardware and housewares, and greeting cards fill the store today. “A big seller - probably the best seller - is greeting cards,” said Donovan. “I’m going to continue to add items as the demand arises,” Donovan added. A back room in the store will soon be made into a craft corner, selling hobby craft materials. It would appear that Donovan has found a market niche relatively unexploited in Keremeos. He notes that sales have been increasing, steadily upward since May - welcome news for the village’s business section, as well as its residents.

Whether you are Hispanic or just someone who wants to celebrate the many contributions Hispanics have made to the world, chances are you will look forward to mealtime, when Latin contributions to cuisine can be put on full display for you and your loved ones. But as delicious as foods from places like Mexico can be, they also can pack quite a calorie-laden punch. Yet, there are ways to enjoy Hispanic cuisine without worrying about all those empty calories. The following recipe for “Snazzy Smothered Veggie Burritos” from Lisa Lillien’s “To the Max: The Ultimate Guilt-Free Cookbook” (St.Martin’s Press), is a low-calorie alternative to bulkier burritos. But while it may be low in calories, it’s still high on taste.
Snazzy Smothered Veggie Burritos Makes 2 servings 1 1 1 2/3 1/4 1/4 1/4 2 1/3 1/3
cup chopped zucchini cup chopped red bell pepper cup chopped onion cup fat-free refried beans teaspoon cumin teaspoon chili powder teaspoon garlic powder medium-large high-fiber flour tortillas with 110 calories or less cup red enchilada sauce cup shredded reduced-fat Mexican-blend cheese
Preheat oven to 400° F. Spray a baking sheet with nonstick spray. Bring a large skillet sprayed with nonstick spray to medium-high heat. Add zucchini, pepper and onion. Cook and stir until softened, 10 to 12 minutes. In a microwave-safe bowl, thoroughly mix refried beans, cumin, chili powder, and garlic powder. Microwave for 1 minute, or until hot, and stir. Microwave tortillas on a microwave-safe plate for 15 seconds, or until warm. Lay tortillas flat and divide the bean mixture between the bottom halves. Top with cooked veggies. Fold in the sides of each tortilla and tightly roll it up around the filling. Place seam-side down on the baking sheet, side by side. Top with sauce and cheese. Bake until cheese has melted and burritos are hot, 2 to 3 minutes.

After the severe rains on Friday, September 6, a debris jam broke somewhere ‘way up in the hills above the town, resulting in a funnel effect which took a load of rocks and water down a really steep slope running past our reservoir. A diversionary channel which was built in about 2003 is nearly full in places from the flow of material that came down. A quick update on the debris flow above Hedley reservoir on September 6 and follow up to concerns expressed along the way: Argo came and cleaned the streets Tuesday, September 10. Though there was a complaint that Argo had dumped
debris into Twenty Mile Creek, all I could discern was that the street cleaner did all that a street cleaner does and the road is now clear but the build-up on the sides is still sitting there. Richard Tarnoff, Hedley water systems operator was notified by me Sept 11 that there may be contaminants in the water supply and advised Gary Ross to consider this when he samples the water next on Tuesday, September 17. Tim Giles, Regional Geomorphologist for the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations did a site visit September 13, and will be compiling a report on what he saw on the ground. His report will carry the greatest weight in terms of us accessing any funds for emergency management of either clearing/cleaning the existing water diversionary ditch or looking at redirecting and building a new one.

I have contacted our MLA, Linda Larson with a brief outline of what happened and a few photos. I urge you to consider writing her if you are concerned about addressing the issue and obtaining provincial emergency dollars to do it. I have talked to past HID Trustees having a lot of knowledge about the water reservoir, the flows off the hillside above it (Red Eagle Gulch) and the past decisions and actions to divert the water. Both men are excellent resources and could come to an HID meeting if invitedand he would give background info. I will be down at the UBCM conference during the next HID meeting but will certainly endeavour to speak to our MLA Linda Larson at that time about this situation. I hope to gain her support and get some help on a long term fix for this situation.
