The communities of the West Boundary are kicking off the Canadian Cancer Society’s April daffodil campaign and joining communities across the country to unite in the fight against cancer. According to local Canadian Cancer Society organizers Anna Anderson and Kim Lindseth, volunteer canvassers are still needed for the communities of Rock Creek and Greenwood. This week more than 3,300 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer. A cancer diagnosis can be daunting, which is why the Canadian Cancer Society is asking everyone to join the fight against

cancer and wear a daffodil pin in April to show their support of those living with cancer. Greenwood Mayor Nipper Kettle joined Anderson and Lindseth on the steps of City Hall to mark the beginning of the annual campaign. Kettle said that his family, like so many others, has been touched by cancer. His brother lost a two-year fight with leukemia when he was only seven years old, his father also was diagnosed with cancer as was his sister – who is currently waging her own fight against breast cancer. “I know how rough a time it can be for those stricken by cancer to go through the treatment,” Kettle said. “Cancer doesn’t care about colour, or age, or gender. But when my brother died, the chance of survival was only 10 per cent, and now that has

been turned around and it is now at 90 per cent.” “We’ve all been touched by cancer. In fact, two in five Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetimes,” Lindseth added. “By wearing a daffodil pin in April and especially on Daffodil Day, which is on April 27, Canadians can show them they are not alone in their fight.” Daffodil pins will be available for a small donation at local stores throughout the West Boundary during the month of April. Fair decides theme
At their March meeting the Rock Creek and Boundary Fair Association made several decisions about the coming year’s activities. They settled on the theme for the fair, “Powered By Volunteers” winning out over several other suggestions. An annual budget of $151,904.18 was adopted. The membership heard that the board has given approval to Jamie Haynes of Heritage Mills to use the Eek Cabin and area for a display on grain growing in the Boundary. Heritage Mills is a Rock Creek company producing and marketing federally inspected, labtested whole grain flour. They are working with local farmers to rebuild the local trade. Haynes is asking the community for help in locating photographs of bygone days of threshing and combining in the Boundary. Contact him at 250-446-2446. Director Ron Palmer reported that a grant application with Western Economic Diversification (WED) initiated by the previous board had been approved, but was turned down by the current board because it is too costly to pursue this year. The $90,000 project would have replaced the grandstand bleachers; however, because the fair
would have had to come up with 50 per cent of the costs, they decided to instead ask WED if they would consider a smaller grant for a $30,000 project to do roof repair work. Palmer also reported that after the February general membership meeting, Area E Director Bill Baird had approached the board to offer his services in facilitating a meeting between the board and Buckin’ Hens to try to get the rodeo back on the schedule for Rock Creek this year. Palmer said the board consented to Baird’s proposal but had heard nothing back from him. “We are assuming that meeting will not be going ahead,” said Palmer. Treasurer Lisa Sims reported that the board’s financial review committee had met and reviewed the additional financial information that they had requested from various sources. “We are preparing a report, which will include our findings and our recommendations. This report will be presented to the board at their next meeting and I believe in April they will be able to bring that recommendation to the membership.” In presenting the 2013 budget on behalf of the budget and planning committee, Terry Keough recommended that a committee should be struck to deal with sponsorships and that the board consider putting 10 per cent of their annual revenue into a reserve account. “Once you’ve got four years of that then you’ve got one full year [of operating] in the bank,” Keough explained. “After that you continue to put aside the 10 per cent but put it back into facilities.” Ilana Fraser proposed a special meeting to discuss bylaw revisions. It is scheduled for Saturday, April 6 at 10 a.m. It was reported that Vicki Gee has taken on the duties of chasing down leads on grants. Ron Palmer’s company, Osoyoos Mountain Estates Inc., has donated a generator set to the fair. It will be used for the venders and is expected to save the fair money. Currently FortisBC sets the electrical rate for the fair based on their highest rate of consumption – which occurs only two days a year during the fair. So cutting costs on that weekend should save money overall. A special meeting will be held on ThursJamie and Maureen Haynes are seeking old photos of day, March 28 on how to conduct a meetgrain threshing and combining for a fall fair display ing. Ministry of Agriculture agrologist they are putting together. Carl Withler will facilitate the meeting.

Dog owners concerned Regional district proposes new animal control bylaw
The regional district’s proposed new animal control bylaw has sparked a lot of concern among local dog owners. The Kootenay Boundary Pet Dog Association held a meeting last Tuesday, March 12 that packed the Seniors’ Centre in Grand Forks City Park, to discuss the bylaw which would cover Greenwood, all of Grand Forks (city and Area D) and Christina Lake. The bylaw passed three readings last month. The group has prepared an alternative to Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) Animal Control Bylaw 1511, also stating that they welcome suggestions to their proposition.
Of most concern to many of those at the meeting was the proposed limit of only three dogs per property. This part of the proposed bylaw would not apply to Christina Lake dog owners as Area C Director Grace McGregor has opted to keep the current five-dog limit there. Some are concerned that the limit on the number of dogs in the new bylaw would not allow for small breeding operations or boarding kennels. There are also concerns that the bylaw is discriminatory against specific breeds because it defines a vicious dog as: • Any dog that has attacked or bitten, attempted to attack or bite, or chase any person or animal or wildlife; or, • A pit bull terrier, American pit bull terrier, pit bull Staffordshire, bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier or any dog of mixed breeding which includes any of the aforementioned breeds. Richard Smith, RDKB Animal Control Officer, also spoke at the meeting. Ken Smith, owner of JK Kennels in Area D near Eholt, has been in business seven years. He admits that his kennel is considered an illegal business because his property is not zoned for a kennel. He said that no property in Area D is designated for boarding kennels unless the owner

goes through a costly zoning amendment process; something that is difficult for him to do because he is living on a reduced pension. “The mistake I made was to put a sign up,” Smith told the Times in a telephone interview. He said that shortly thereafter (in 2010), he was contacted by RDKB and told he was running an illegal business. “So I took the sign down and very quietly carried on running the illegal business.” He said that without his kennel and another in Grand Forks, pet owners would have nowhere local to board their dogs. “If there is no need for boarding kennels, why have I got 21 dogs this week?” asked Smith. He said he’d asked the regional district what he had to do to become legal, but had decided not to pursue that option because the $1,000 fee could be lost if the zoning amendment were turned down. “It only needs one member to say no,” said Smith. “Takes me a long time to make a thousand bucks. So I didn’t go for that.” Kathy Novokshonoff is another Area D resident concerned about the threedog limit. She is a purebred dog fancier who shows dogs and offers dog training. She does not board dogs but she and her husband have six dogs on their 17 hectare property. In June Novokshonoff will be bringing the Canine Good Neighbour Evaluators to the Boundary for the third year. She echoes Smith’s concern that without the availability of kennel facilities, pet owners will be left with less than desirable alternatives. She suggests the animal control bylaw focus on what dogs and cats do to irritate people, and what you can do to stop them. Greenwood resident Walt Harris is also concerned about the grandfathering clause in the proposed bylaw. He insists his neighbour already has too many dogs and feels that grandfathering it will simply make a noisy situation a legal noisy situation. Bylaw 1511 was scheduled for final adoption tonight, March 28, but following the meeting few felt that the bylaw would be adopted without further consideration.

IHA response does not please
Council was less than MIDWAY pleased with a response they received from Interior Health Authority President and CEO Dr. Robert Halpenny to a letter they had sent to IHA on Feb. 5 with concerns about the backlog of appointments at the lab clinic in Midway. “It is understandable that such a backlog is cause for concern particularly in light of the fiscal and human resource challenges that we face today and in the future,” said Halpenny. “I am asking our regional director, IH lab services and his staff to work with you and our partners in Acute and Community Services, as well as local physicians to search for innovative ways and means to offer appropriate and adequate services to your community.” Council decided to contact local physicians to see if they have heard from IHA on the matter. “We need to stay on top of it because I think that we should be pushing some buttons to make these guys perform,” said Councillor Gary Schierbeck. Councillor Marguerite Rotvold said she would be attending a meeting in Kelowna on April 3 where Halpenny would be in
attendance. “I am going to ask Dr. Halpenny about lab services in rural areas, because New Denver gets lab services five days a week and New Denver is smaller than we are,” she noted. *** RCMP Staff Sergeant Jim Harrison and Corporal Kevin Christiansen visited Midway council last week to present them with the Annual Report to Mayors, Councils and Regional District of Kootenay Boundary. This was the same report given to Greenwood council a week earlier. But with a different audience there were a few new points touched upon and questions raised. He told council that the detachment is planning to do more school liaison work in both elementary and high schools. “In the Boundary we don’t have a big youth crime problem,” he said, adding that he sees school liaison work as good preventative work. “We can focus on the up-and-coming generation, to let them know that we are there and that we have an awful lot of respect for them in our community. “Quite frankly most of the youth in

our community that I have met are really great young citizens and I think all of our communities are very lucky with the young people that we do have.” Harrison offered Midway council the assistance of local RCMP in enforcing bylaws of a peace and order nature. “Even though it doesn’t fit our mandate it does fit in my mind our responsibility to the community to keep peace and good order in the community. Municipal bylaws are a part of that package and quite frankly they give my members a tool on their belt to deal with the situation.” Harrison said his 2013 plan calls for more participation in emergency planning as well. “That’s kind of where we are going in 2013. Those are the priorities that we’ve set for the detachment. The other things that we will be doing are crime reduction initiatives. We will be still targeting on prolific offenders.” Rotvold questioned the lack of specific statistics in the report on drug related offences. *** Administrator Penny Feist reported that there were no responses to the advertisements for someone willing to take on the job of animal control officer in the village.

Release report Carbon offsets: B.C.’s looniest green scheme yet? That interesting question was asked in a Globe and Mail headline last week. Midway Councillor Dick Dunsdon, who has raised the same query a few times at the council table, brought a clipping of the article to share with the rest of council. The province’s carbon trading system is supposed to lead us to a greener future by having us accept responsibility for our carbon sins. You add up how many tonnes of carbon you produce and then purchase an equivalent amount of carbon offsets. Critics say that schools, hospitals, local governments and other public entities are forced to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on carbon credits, while private businesses sell their credits for cash. Midway, Greenwood and the regional district have all agreed that this year they will purchase carbon offsets from the Kootenay-based Darkwoods Conservation Project. Midway council was told in February by Community Energy Association consultant Patricia Dehnel that Darkwoods was still awaiting a report by Auditor General John Doyle. Speaker Bill Barisoff received the report last Friday, March 22 but is holding up its release, citing possible procedural errors in how it was distributed. It’s a given that we must take action on climate change – and carbon trading is where we’ve been led. But the carbon credit system is new and it involves huge sums of money. According to Doyle various international bodies have been scrutinizing carbon offsets and forest carbon sinks like the Darkwoods project in B.C. “The auditor general of B.C. isn’t a voice in the wilderness on this issue,” he said. Now would be a good time to release the report so we can make sure this new carbon economy is soundly based – or if it is just a “loonie scheme”? Release the report.

The BC Services Card. Your CareCard, and more.
NOTICE:
NEW Garbage Collection Service To the Residents of Eholt, Boundary Creek, Jewel Lake, Anaconda, Midway (both sides of Hwy 3 to Murray Road)
Kettle Valley Waste has purchased the waste collection business from Rapid Services/Joanne Relkov. We know that people will miss Joanne’s personal touch in the way she has managed waste collection for so many years. We are committed to maintaining her high quality, dependable service. We will honour Rapid Services tags until you have run out. We are also expanding garbage collection service to all of the areas listed above.
For your convenience, trash collection will be EVERY WEDNESDAY (to match your bi-weekly recycling day). Your first garbage collection day is April 3 along with your regular “no-charge, no-tags-necessary” RDKB “blue bag” pickup.
One card. Many services. The new BC Services Card is part of government’s plan to modernize BC’s health care system. It replaces your CareCard, can be combined with your driver’s licence, and also acts as your photo ID. It’s more convenient and more secure, with enhanced features to protect your personal information. And getting yours is easy. Starting February 15, 2013, and for the next five years, you can simply enrol when renewing your driver’s licence. And even if you don’t drive, you can enrol at the nearest location where driver’s licences are issued. To learn more visit: BCServicesCard.ca
• West Boundary Introductory Special: KVW tags are $3 each through April! You can’t do it for less yourself. • Convenient: recycling and trash collected the same day
• Cost Effective: You only pay for the trash that you put out. No need for a trip to the Transfer Station where you would pay $3 for each bag of garbage and have the hassle of the drive. • Committed to Excellent Customer Service: We have built our business one satisfied customer at a time for more than 30 years.

Students prepare for grad
In conversation with members of the Class of 2013
Introducing
Megan Pederson
When Megan Pederson arrived at BCSS as a Grade 8 student, little did she suspect the adventure that was before her. Over the next five years, she seized every opportunity that came her way to fully experience her time in high school. “I didn’t expect to ever leave this school,” she explains. “I thought I’d just go from Grade 8 to Grade 12 in this school. I never would have guessed that just the next year I would go to Pen High and the year after that I would go to Oliver and the year after that I would be in Japan. It was a hectic five years.” She’s taken classes through home schooling as well as classes online. She’s even taken classes in Japanese. She hopes to be accepted at SFU this fall, the only school in B.C. that offers a Bachelor of Science in Behavioural Neuroscience. Her ultimate goal is to attend medical school specializing in anesthesiology. Megan said she’d gotten interested in psychology as a Rotary exchange student in Japan during Grade 11. She admits that she’d slacked off on studying the language before her trip so when she first arrived there she had to fall back on body language and speech inflection. It was comparable to an immersion course in behavioural psychology. “In Japanese you speak very monotone – you never do highs and lows like you do in English. So when I first started learning Japanese I would be talking to them and they would look at me like – are you mad at me?” In the end she hired three tutors to cram Japanese into her head for a week, and her advice for
anyone else who is going on an exchange is to study the language before going. Megan comes from an artistic family. Her granddad has an art gallery in Oliver and her father and cousins are artists. “I kind of got raised around art so I got interested in it. I do everything from realism to painting to digital, online and such. I really enjoy art.” Her artistic talent was recognized when she took first place in the Oliver Annual Art Show in the Emerging Artist Under 19 category. She also lists writing as one of her favourite hobbies. “I love writing, from poetry to essays to prose of any sort. “ She’s been active in various capacities at every school she’s attended. In Grade 10 she was part of the girl’s field hockey team from South Okanagan that went to the provincials. She’s volunteered for the Yearbook Club, served on Student Council president in Grades 8 and 9, and is involved with BCSS Spirit Club this year when she can find time. She’s got a full load of courses this year though, including several online courses to make up for those she missed while in Japan. Megan is planning to work over the summer. She’s already got an impressive resume. In fact, she gave up her job at BuyLow in Osoyoos so she could focus on her classes during her final year of high school. If she is accepted at SFU for the fall term she plans to move there right away so she can secure an on-campus job. If she doesn’t get into SFU this fall she plans to take a year off and move to Penticton with some close friends and try again after a year. Megan has gained a wealth of experience during her high school years, experiences that will benefit herself, her community and her future employers for years to come.

Brandons continue to pastor part-time
“Keeping country churches alive,” says the banner of the Village Missions website (www.village-missions.org) and it was in keeping with that convention that 2009 saw Paul and Evelyn Brandon come to Evangel Chapel in Greenwood on the retirement of Pastor Oroville Pershing after 46 years of service. Paul subsequently retired from Evangel Chapel in Greenwood on the last Sunday of August 2011, but the very next Sunday they were officially semi-retired, and in the Bulkley Valley community of Wisteria as associate pastor – again with Village Missions. Over their 32 years with Village Missions it’s been their experience that the recreation commission and the church play pivotal roles in small rural communities. During those years they’ve worked in churches in the Shuswap village of Grindrod, on Hornby Island, in Willow River near Prince George, and down in Cusick, Washington (about 100 kilometres north of Spokane). “We are retired, we don’t want to spend all year pastoring in one place but we are still young enough to fulfill that role at least part of the year,” explains Paul. They’ve now made four trips up to Wisteria (population 45). Evelyn shows pictures of the community, with its two public buildings: the community hall and the church. Another picture shows a sign beside the railroad tracks. She explains that if you want to go to Prince George from Burns Lake that’s where you stand to flag
It’s a 90-minute drive, just over 70 km, to the closest shopping opportunity in Burns Lake, which is near the geographical centre of the province. The church has weekly services on Sunday and they have Easter Sunrise Services down on the shores of Ootsa Lake. “So we will go down and have a big bonfire and talk about Easter,” says Paul. Ootsa Lake, like other lakes in the region is now only a place name on the Nechako Reservoir for separate lakes that were joined when the Kenney Dam was build to provide power for Alcan in the 1950s. “So the land that was owned by the farmers shrunk quite a bit when the lake got bigger and many a hay field and pasture are now under water. It’s beautiful country up there. Just across the lake sits the northern edge of Tweedsmuir Provincial Park. PAUL AND EVELYN BRANDON “Everybody has crafty lady so she’d got these ladies making got their own lake,” says Paul. “It’s called the Lakes District for a good reason.” fancy boxes, fascinators and fancy cards.” Paul explained that Village Missions She says that whenever she “gets her act together” she will hold a craft workshop, doesn’t represent any specific denominabut it takes a lot of planning because she tion. “We don’t even talk about denominahas to drive for three hours to Smithers to tions because out in these areas you can’t form a church with enough people from get her supplies. down the train. Evelyn is a fundamental part of the husband/wife mission team. “The women up there don’t really get out very much,” Paul explains. “They stick in their house, they do their housework and they don’t get out and visit. So when Evelyn went there the first time she was really lonely because there was nothing to do and no one to do it with. “In subsequent trips up there she got the ladies involved in crafts. She’s a very
any one denomination. So we don’t even talk about denominations and we’ll draw people from many denominations.” “People in small communities don’t always attend the church but they think of it as their church and they’ll come to the pastor for weddings, for funerals or for counseling – marriage counseling. Lots of things. “I think Village Missions is a really good organization because they give you a venue to work at but they are not hovering over you to watch every decision you make. They sort of set you loose and let you go, which I appreciate. You make your own mistakes. But, having said that, there are policies and procedures you have to follow. And if you follow those policies the church should grow, it should flourish. “You have to work with the local church and the local church has the authority, not Village Missions. Village Missions doesn’t own any properties or buildings – that is all owned by the local church.” The congregation of 35 people in Wisteria boasts eight accomplished musicians, something that Paul and Evelyn are very comfortable with as they both enjoy music. Paul sees his work as being God’s messenger of hope and encouragement. “That’s my gift, to come alongside of people and encourage them. “We’ve been in the ministry a long time, going through these little tiny communities and helping people with whatever projects they are doing – just come alongside them and help them and just do the things that they’re doing,” says Paul.

Call on God for true meaning From the Back Pew ”Just saying”, by the sometimes irreverent Ed Brouwer. No claims of absolute originality are made for this material. As one man said, “I milk a lot of cows, but I churn my own butter.”
The true message of Easter can be summed up by John 3:16-17 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.” The words of the song He knew me always gets to me. He knew me, yet He loved me! This is confirmed in Romans 5:8 – “God commended his love toward us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Mankind was and is alienated from God, without hope. Yet, look at Romans 5:6-10 – “when we were yet without strength, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly... Christ died for us... being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from the wrath to come, reconciled to God by the death of his Son...” (to bring back to friendship after estrangement, back in harmony) No other religion or belief contains this kind of sacrifice. Confirming again that religion is man trying to reach up to God, but Christianity is
God reaching down to mankind. Christ took our place on the cross.... He died to deliver us from the powers of darkness, from death, sin and the grave! He died to redeem us by His Blood! And He now lives to empower us! That is right, I said He lives. We speak much of the death and crucifixion, but we dare not belittle or ignore the fact that He has risen! Colossians 2:13-15 – “And you, being dead in your sins has he brought to life with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us which was contrary to us taking it out of the way, nailing it to his cross”;
In the final moments of His life on earth Christ according to Colossians 2 snatched the list of sins and nailed it to the cross. This was done openly and in public view! Our dying Christ cried, “It is finished” and the veil of the temple was ripped in half. Its tearing from top to bottom shows it is God’s own act. The tearing points to the destruction of the barriers which excluded sinners from God’s presence. Jesus Himself became the sacrifice and the veil no other sacrifice or mediator is necessary! I Peter 1:18-19 – “you were redeemed with the precious blood of Christ.” The solders were told to make the tomb secure! How many graves do you know that have a lock on them, let alone guards posted around it? Yet, no matter the precautions, no matter the size of the stone, no matter the armies of guards Good Friday was over, but Sunday was a coming and the power of God would be seen! On resurrection Sunday the Stone was rolled away and the tomb was found to be empty – Christ the Lord had risen! Death could not handle Him, and thank God Almighty the grave could not hold Him! You have a choice this Easter weekend, you can call on Peter Cottontail and go on an Easter egg hunt, or you can call on God and ask Him to show you the true meaning behind “Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday”. I hope you choose wisely.

Chronic disease program opens SHAWNA SCHUH Submitted
Starting this month, a newly created Complex Chronic Disease Program located at BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre will begin accepting patient referrals. The Complex Chronic Disease Program (CCDP) assists people with fibromyalgia, myalgic encephalomyelitis/ chronic fatigue syndrome and tick borne illnesses, such as Lyme disease. In addition to providing treatment and care, the program also includes a strong research component. The CCDP will support clinicians and researchers in their pursuit of causes, diagnosis and
potential treatments for these types of chronic conditions. The CCDP offers an integrative care approach. Each patient in the program will receive a comprehensive medical assessment and will be able to access other health care services including specialty medicine, nursing, social work, physiotherapy, and naturopathy. “Working with family doctors and other primary-care providers, the Complex Chronic Disease Program will increase the capacity of our health-care system to treat chronic conditions in patients across B.C. The $2 million investment by the Ministry of Health to establish this important program and related research activities will make a dif-
ference,” said Dr. Alison Bested, Medical Director, CCDP. Patients will require a physician’s referral to be considered for admission into the program. Referral forms may be accessed by calling the program (telephone: 604-875-2061 fax: 604-8753738). After a patient has been referred, their needs will be further assessed by program staff, through the use of a triage process. The triage criteria have been created with input from patient advocacy groups and a medical ethicist to ensure a fair process that prioritizes patients appropriately. Forest Act amendments deferred
Government Release
Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations Minister Steve Thomson issued the following statement recently with regard to proposed amendments to the Forest Act that would enable the conversion of volume-based forest licences to area-based forest licences: “The mountain pine beetle infestation has had a devastating environmental impact on the province’s Interior forests and significant economic impact
on forestry-dependent communities. It is important that the provincial government have as many tools as possible to enhance mid-term timber supply. “In response to the 2012 Special Committee on Timber Supply’s report and to improve forest stewardship and support community resiliency, we proposed amendments to the Forest Act that would enable the conversion of volume-based forest licences to area-based forest licences. “Area-based tenures can act as an incentive for enhanced silviculture, since
the licence holder who is making the investment will gain the benefit, which is not the case for volume-based licences. “This is an important piece of public policy, however, it has become clear to me that greater public engagement is needed before legislative amendments can proceed. We will therefore be initiating a process of broader public consultation this summer based on the recommendations of the special committee and the proposed legislation. “More public engagement will ensure everyone is better informed about areabased tenures, their intent and their benefits.”
Spring forward with healthy smile MIDWAY LIBRARY LIVING
WELL REPORT
You don’t have to brush and floss your teeth-just the ones you want to keep. – Author Unknown April means spring is here, a time to enjoy the budding of flowers and other new beginnings. For many of us spring brings renewed energy and interest in our overall health. The mouth is often described as being the gateway to the rest of the body. Maintaining good oral health is an important part of being healthy. We are now learning that poor oral health may be linked to chronic diseases such as diabetes heart disease and respiratory illness. Maintaining a health mouth and body is all about prevention. Here are a few tips to help you spring forward with a healthy smile! Brush your teeth every day, twice a day. Brushing daily helps to remove plaque that causes tooth decay and gum disease. If you use a power toothbrush, choose one that has a rotation/oscil-

lation action. Fluoride toothpaste will help keep the outer layer of the teeth hard and resistant to the acids that cause tooth decay. Floss your teeth every day, once a day. Flossing daily helps remove plaque from between the teeth. If flossing is difficult, floss holders can make it easier. If you have braces or bridges, interdental brushes are an alternative. Eat and drink well. Foods that are nutritionally healthy are also good for your oral health. Limiting sweet, sticky snack foods and sugary drinks will reduce the number of acid attacks on your teeth. Drink less sugar and more water. Sugary drinks increase the risk of tooth decay. Plain water is the best thirst quencher, especially between meals, and it is also good for your teeth. Regular check-ups and professional cleanings are the best ways to ensure your mouth is healthy and free of tooth decay and gum disease.
