Doug has another surprise that he created in his home shop: a 1932 Ford tudor sedan that is also powered by a Chrysler hemi engine. The car is so perfect that it was voted the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association hot rod of the year in 2005. Doug and Dan grew up in the Newton area of Surrey, not far from Cloverdale where Doug has his home and shop. Their father was a machinist and they gravitated to the metal shop in school. Doug started building a race car with a small English-built 1949 Anglia car. The car hobby took off from there with twins building hot rod after hot rod. “We see each every day,” says Dan, a retired sheet metal fabricator. Doug jumps in to say it’s like they have the same brain. They build the same type of cars, travel to shows together and build their cars together. They have legions of American hot rodder

Doug and Dan MacLanders are not hard to spot at hot rod shows. They are identical twins who always seem to have the same type of hot rods. The Ferrari Museum in Maranello has opened the “Ferrari Supercar, Technology, Design, Myth” exhibition. Exhibits include the new LaFerrari, unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, as well as all of the other limited edition special series cars that helped establish the Prancing Horse legend. It retraces the story of all of the limited edition special series models built by Ferrari, starting with the 250 GTO, including an example of the 1964 version, and continuing with the 1984 GTO, the F40, the F50 and the Enzo, all the way up to the new model which has been named the LaFerrari as it epitomizes the sweeping excellence for which the Maranello marque is renowned. Parallel to the limited edition
road cars will be the Formula 1 cars that inspired Ferrari’s design in various eras, as well as special track and competitionoriented models, such as the GTO Evoluzione, the F40 Competizione, the 599XX and the FXX. A large section of the exhibition is devoted to the development of the LaFerrari, illustrating both its technical content and styling. The entire process from the car’s initial conception to the approval of the final car is traced, in fact, and visitors also have the opportunity to see two full-scale models in addition to the various stages the car went through in its design. The New Volkswagen e-up! METROLAND MEDIA WHEELSTALK.COM
Volkswagen is writing a new chapter in mobility in presenting its first fully electric production vehicle: the new e-up! The four-seat car, which operates with nearly zero noise, is being shown at today’s annual Press and Investors Conference in Wolfsburg. The new e-up! boasts a driving range of 150 km and excellent everyday practicality. With nearly zero noise, the e-up! is powered by an electric motor with 60 kW/80 hp peak power – without any disturbing gearshift interruptions or powertrain noise. Its continuous power is 40 kW/55 hp. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h within 14 seconds and reaches a top speed of 135 km/h.
The lithium-ion battery integrated in the under floor area has a total energy storage capacity of 18.7 Kilowatt-hours (kWh); this means that the car can cover up to 150 km (per NEDC) on a single charge thanks to its low vehicle weight of 1,185 kg. The port for charging the battery in the e-up! is hidden behind the ‘fuel filling flap.’ As an option, the Combined Charging System is used, which has been standardized by Volkswagen and other carmakers. It supports both DC and AC charging, so that drivers can easily charge their cars at most charging stations – regardless of the power sources or charging rates they offer. In autumn, the e-up! will make its show debut at the International Auto Show in Frankfurt and following this will become available to order.
With a range of 150 km, the Volkswagen e-up! will go on sale this fall in Europe after its debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

As the last of the major auto shows, New York culls together he best of the best and this is certainly true of the concept cars. With an emphasis on new styling, technology and the environment, this year’s stunning new concept cars offer a glimpse into the future, and perhaps a look at what we might be driving in the years ahead. The show opens to the public Friday, March 29 through April 7 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Centre in Manhattan. Here are the concepts that will on display: ACURA MDX Prototype: This concept provides a strong indication of the styling and design direction for the third generation seven-passenger MDX SUV that will focus on dynamic performance, improved fuel economy and luxury comfort. VOLKSWAGEN BLUECROSS The BlueCross concept is a six-seater mid-size SUV concept designed specifically for North America. It is powered by an innovative plugin hybrid powertrain that mates a clean diesel engine with two electric motors, a dual-clutch automatic
transmission, and an electric allwheel-drive system which offers an estimated fuel economy rating of (US) 35 MPG combined and 89 MPGe in electric mode. LINCOLN MKC The Lincoln MKC Concept is a small luxury utility concept that is designed to strike a perfect balance between warm, inviting comfort and the engaging and superb dynamic qualities of performance, ride, handling and braking. NISSAN RESONANCE Resonance signals the future direction of Nissan crossovers with smart, edgy design which aims to elevate the crossover experience with engaging aerodynamic exterior, spacious and sophisticated interior and advanced HEV powertrain. BMW i3 The i3 coupe is powered by a rearmounted electric motor that puts out 170 hp and 184 lb/ft of torque via a single-speed transmission. On a full charge the i3s lithium-ion battery will sustain 100 miles of travel in mixed driving conditions. TOYOTA FURIA CONCEPT The Corolla Furia Concept is a compact sedan that hints at the styling cues consumers can expect to see on the next-generation Corolla.

Kia’s design team has won four prestigious ‘red dot’ design awards, including a ‘Best of the Best’ distinction for the new Kia pro_ cee’d in the product design category.
