The 15th annual Pacific Agriculture Show at Tradex at the Abbotsford Airport will again feature its name events – the Horticulture Short Course, BC Dairy Expo, the always popular Trade Show and the Agri-Energy Forum. The upcoming Agri-Energy Form will include discussions related to renewable energy technologies including pyrolysis, small scale wind and micro hydro projects, regulations and planning, and co-production development. An expanded Farm Business Management program is being arranged to run all day on Friday, Jan. 25, building on recent successful sessions. Blueberry Day on Saturday, Jan. 26 will focus on this year’s harvest and the market outlook, new pest issues, irrigation and nutrition management. For raspberry and strawberry growers the issues center around new varieties, pest challenges including the spotted wing drosophila and the raspberry crown borer virus, and the crop returns from the 2012 growing season. Each of these events are only part of the many important industry meetings and conferences of interest to producers. Nanoose Bay, B.C., the commercial insectory produces insects and mites that are safe, affective and beneficial alternatives to using harmful chemicals. While chemicals become less effective the more you use them, beneficial insects do not lose their effectiveness and are the only long term solution to pest insect control. The Bug Factory raises a large variety of beneficial insects. They have identified the most common pests in both home and commercial gardens and hydroponic operations and have packaged insects to specifically target these. The PacAg Show also features the annual Horticulture Short Course, BC Dairy Expo, the Agri-Energy Forum, a milking demonstration, a small farm animal display, greenhouse growers’ seminars, as well as presentations for potato growers, other vegetable growers and organic growers. On Wednesday, Jan. 23, the BC Agriculture Council hosts its annual Gala at the Ramada Inn with guest speakers Troy and Stacey Hadrick from South Dakota. The Hadricks have been delivering a strong message about agriculture world-wide. They will also conduct a special workshop for farmers on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 9 a.m. Admittance is by Farmer Identity Card only. Come out to Tradex and experience this annual extravaganza.

Interest keeps growing Objective is to introduce new technology

The Pacific Agriculture Show’s objective of bringing the newest and best in agriculture to the farming community is evident more than ever in its 15th annual show. The list of participants with booths and displays has grown each year and 2013 is no exception. One of those companies who will be on hand to showcase their products and answer any questions is Octaform. Octaform

BMO

Systems Inc. in Vancouver, manufactures stay-inplace PVC forms and is the world’s most versatile concrete forming system. What makes the Octaform system so unique is that it is a concrete wall and finished wall surface, constructed in one step, one system. No sealing or finishing is required. Watertight and corrosion resistant, it makes an ideal solution for a variety of ag-

ricultural applications. Highly reflective PVC panels enhance natural or artificial light and optional insulation reduces temperature fluctuations for such places such as barns. Easy to clean Octaform panels are ideal for dairy parlors where mechanical and electrical components can be incorporated with the wall structure before concrete placement. For more information, visit their booth at the show.

The Clean Seed Capital Group Ltd. is one of several companies that will be showcasing their product at the 15th annual Pacific Agriculture Show. The company owns an innovative precision no-till planting system. It strives to balance productivity with sustainability. Conventional tillage practices deplete soil carbon, which degrades soil quality, reduces productivity and results in the need for more fertilization, irrigation and pesticides. No-till farming helps to reverse these effects. Clean Seed has an academic collaboration agreement with the University of B.C.’s Faculty of Land and Food Systems. For more on this, or other agri-companies, check out the Pacific Agriculture Show at Tradex, in the Abbotsford Airport, from Jan. 2426.
