Guardian angel, heroic cops and a life saved Robert Freeman The Progress
A 9-1-1 call from an 18-year-old Chilliwack woman trapped in a vehicle that’s flipped on its roof in a ditch and filling fast with water. And then the line goes dead. Chilliwack firefighters are dealing with emergencies on the other side of town at 11:30 a.m. on a snowy Wednesday morning, but several Chilliwack RCMP officers are finally able to locate the
2005 Hyundai 4-door in a ditch on Gibsons Road. Only its tires are showing above the water line. Knowing time is running out for whoever is inside, several police officers immediately jump into the water and try to lift the car up high enough to expose the back window, while another officer tries to break it with a window punch. No dice, the window isn’t cooperating. So the officer starts punching
it with his bare fist, and keeps on punching until it breaks. He then crawls inside the waterfilled car and pulls the young girl to safety, handing her off to another officer outside who swims her to the edge of the ditch. A waiting ambulance then takes her to Chilliwack General Hospital where she is treated for Stage 1 hypothermia. “By the time police reached me, the water was up to my neck,” the young girl recalled later.
“A bunch of the officers went in the water to lift the car, and the next thing I knew I was being pulled out,” she said. “(Then) we had to swim.” “I am just so grateful to everyone who was there yesterday to help me.” RCMP Const. Tracy Wolbeck said the young girl had come “within an inch of her life” as the water rose around her. “This is such a heroic act,” Wolbeck said. “A lot of bravery and

When most of Chilliwack is sitting down to a sumptuous meal on Christmas day, dozens of volunteers will be springing into action to serve a festive meal at Ruth & Naomi’s Mission. For the first time in the mission’s history, they are having two separate Christmas dinner sittings, one at 2 p.m. and again at 6 p.m. They expect to serve 240 people a beautiful turkey dinner with all the trimmings on Christmas day, says Bill Raddatz, executive director at Ruth & Naomi’s. That is almost double the number they served last year. “The numbers have increased because the need has increased,” he said. They are also hoping to provide children and adults with a small gift each. An impressive body of 70 dedicated volunteers — about 35 for each sitting — will be leaving friends and family on Christmas day to serve the needy at Ruth & Naomi’s.
Seniors don’t have to be alone School helps serve breakfast on Christmas morning Christmas is often a time to be spent with family. But that’s not always reality for some seniors. That was the thinking behind last year’s Christmas morning breakfast, hosted by ACE students, the Legion and other volunteers. They all gave up their Christmas morning — and gladly — to spend the most wonderful time of the year with local seniors who would otherwise be spending it alone. And this year, they’re doing it again. Sandy Balascak, administrator for ACE, said she’s hoping to get the word out about the event so that even more seniors will come out and enjoy the festivities. The breakfast begins at 8 a.m. and runs until 10 a.m., at the Agassiz Legion. Even Santa Claus is scheduled to make an appearance, she added. “This is just something for those seniors who would otherwise be alone on Christmas morning,” she added, as a way of boosting people’s spirits and also giving back to the community.

“It’s unbelievable,” Raddatz said, about the number of community-minded people who are volunteering over Christmas. “We thought it would be hard to find people. But it’s been phenomenal.” It’s particularly reassuring, he notes, since not-for-profits across the Lower Mainland have reported having a tough time this year raising enough operating funds. “We’re up on both donations and the number of donors. There seems to be more awareness about what we do.” Over on Yale Road, at the Salvation Army’s Care and Share Centre hundreds of hamper giveaways were rolled out on Thursday and Friday, along with the everything associated with the Adopt-A-Family program. Changes to curbside pick up on stat holidays

Here’s a little of what is happening around Chilliwack over the holidays. There are changes to curbside garbage collection pickups for residents whose pickup day lands on a statutory holiday, such as Tuesday, Dec. 25, when pickup is a day earlier on Dec. 24, and Jan. 1, will be collected on Dec. 31. The Bailey Landfill is closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, while the Parr Road Green Depot is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Residents who have curbside garbage pickup can put out their Christmas trees at the curb on their regular collection day. Keep in mind, trees in plastic bags, with flocking on them or ornaments cannot be accepted for composting. Non curbside residents can drop off trees, limit of four per residence, at no charge at the Parr Road Green Depot, Dec. 31 to Jan. 12. The depot is closed New Year’s Day.

He said the next priority for upgrading is the Town Dike, which runs from Young Road toward Wolfe Road, then along Schweyey Road to Chilliwack Mountain, protecting sections of the city and areas of Greendale. It’s a Christmas gift that will keep on giving. A $2.3-million upgrade to Chilliwack’s east dike funded by federal, provincial and municipal governments that will increase flood protection for more than 40,000 was announced Tuesday. But it wouldn’t have happened without the hard work of Chilliwack MLA John Les and Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon MP Mark Strahl and the $780,000 that the city had in reserve, said Chilliwack Mayor Sharon Gaetz. Each level of government contributed $780,000 to the project, but it wouldn’t have happened if the city did not first have those matching funds in reserve, she said. The upgrade will see the east dike that runs under Young Road raised by a maximum of one metre from Cartmell Road (the wing dike that extends into the Fraser River) to the Hope River. Bike lanes will also be added to that section of Young Road. David Blain, city engineer, said the east dike was a priority for upgrading since the design flood profile changed about five

unacceptable.” Polak and Mike Proudfoot, CEO of the Transpor tation Investment Corp. (TI Corp.) said it’s up to the contractor, KiewitFlatiron, to come up with a solution — at no cost to taxpayers. “This design for the bridge contemplates measures for the accumulation of snow and ice,” Proudfoot said. “Those haven’t been effective so the ball’s back in the contractor’s court to come up with a proper solution.” Said Polak: “We will be looking to the contractor to provide us not only with a long-term, permanent solution that ensures this never, ever occurs again but, also, an immediate fix to the problem so that the bridge is open and indeed safe for the travelling public.” Still, they made no guarantees that weather conditions will not force another closure of the bridge. Proudfoot said centre pylons are designed to eliminate structural points where snow can accumulate and the cables – which are not heated – are covered in plastic, and snow should have slid down the cables and dissipated. He also said the Port Mann “was designed by one of the most prominent experts in cablestayed bridges. It goes through an independent check by a separate firm, which is also an inter-
nationally recognized expert in cable-stayed bridges. And the TI Corp. has engineers who review it prior to the commencement of work.” Polak was also asked about reports that workers raised concerns previously about potential problems with snow and ice, and whether an option for heated cables was presented to the province or TI Corp. “Nothing of that nature was ever brought to the attention of the ministry and I don’t believe it was brought to the attention of TI Corp.,” she said. Kiewit-Flatiron spokesman Tom Jansenn said in an emailed statement the firm is “very concerned” and working to find a solution as fast as possible. He would not say if the contractor accepts cost responsibility. Earlier in the day, the main union representing workers on the Port Mann Bridge wouldn’t confirm whether its members had raised falling ice as a safety concern last winter. Asked if the issue was recorded as a concern at health and safety meetings, Ironworkers Local 97 president Cecil Damery would only say: “Snow was an issue last year also.” Damery said he had to be “careful what I say” because the union works closely with KiewitFlatiron. Association of Canada (CLAC), another union whose members worked mainly on the highway side of the $3.3-billion Port Mann Highway 1 Project and less frequently on the bridge, said its reps did not hear of falling ice concerns. NDP transportation critic Harry Bains said even without worker complaints, the government should have known that snow and ice falls onto traffic at other bridges of similar design, where cables from the outer bridge rails cross over top of traffic to central support towers. Bridges with falling ice problems exist in Sweden, the U.K. and Boston. “If they knew, why did they not consider eliminating that risk?” Bains asked. Bains said either a retrofit to ensure de-icing — or whatever other technology is suitable — must be performed even if it costs much more now than it would have during construction. It’s not acceptable to shut down the bridge for lengthy periods when similar snow and ice conditions develop, he said, nor is it acceptable if motorists are left scared to drive over the Port Mann in winter. “There’s no other choice but to fix the problem,” Bains said. “Why didn’t they do this before? They ought to have known.” If the ministry did know about the issue but chose not to build in a better solution, Bains wants to know if it was to cut costs. ICBC has received more than 100 claims of vehicles damaged on the Port Mann Bridge Wednesday. Two vehicle occupants were injured and one was hospitalized. Motorists described the falling ice chunks as large — a few feet long — and cracking and in some cases punching through windows. TI Corp. has said drivers who travelled across the bridge between 10 and 6 p.m. Wednesday won’t be charged tolls and the company will cover insurance deductibles for vehicles damaged by falling snow and ice on the bridge, as well as work to compensate motorists on a case-by-case basis who had no comprehensive insurance.

Last week’s snow and ice storms may have brought a white Christmas prematurely, but they haven’t dampened the spirit of the season. This is the time of year for families and friends to gather and enjoy each other’s company. It’s a time for children’s eyes to alight with wonder and magic. It’s a time for parties, with much laughter and fellowship. It’s a celebration, both religious and secular. It’s also a time of year when many of us connect with our roots, whether it’s traveling to visit far-flung family or blowing the dust off trinkets and traditions from generations past. That’s especially true in Canada, a nation of immigrants. For many, Christmas is an amalgam of Western traditions like turkey and colourfully wrapped presents under a decorated tree and their own cultural celebrations, a piñata hung from the ceiling, a feast of spicy sauces and flatbread, polished boots placed in the window awaiting gifts left in the night. Some don’t even celebrate Christmas. They gather a couple of weeks later according to the Julian calendar, or for the new year, or for Eid, the festive conclusion to Ramadan. In our ever-changing world, filled with so much uncertainty, it’s traditions that ground us, keep us connected to where we came from, who we are. They also weave the tapestry of our multi-cultural country. Celebrating the season and creating new traditions is part of the magic of Christmas. Here’s to a joyous one, however you celebrate. Tragedy may prompt action in U.S. gun debate The horrific shooting of 20 children and 6 adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, ten days ago may be the catalyst that finally wakes up Americans to their appalling love affair with guns. But whether that translates into effective gun control laws is another thing. As the tiny coffins were being lowered into the ground, a national debate launched. Those rights granted by that bedrock Second Amendment of their Constitution – the right to bear arms – are getting a second look by individuals and families (even card-carrying NRA members) as well as some politicians. The track record of gun violence in the U.S. speaks for itself. According to GunPolicy.org, by the numbers there were 9,126 gun homicides in 2009 in the U.S. compared to 173 gun related deaths

in Canada, 30 in Australia, and 18 in the U.K. in the same year. Gun ownership in the U.S. ranks at 88.8 firearms for every 100 people and privately owned firearms number 270 million in a population of just over 300 million. But what are the chances of a scrum on the horizon before any of those gun carrying Margaret Americans unravel EVANS those hallowed Constitutional words and claw back on the right to bear arms. Getting the collective American mindset around this issue is going to be a long and difficult road. Yet President Obama has promised change and asked his administrative team for concrete proposals to curb gun violence by mid-
January. In that mix there must surely be the need to address the wider and equally troubling issue of mental health. It’s a travesty of their social system that it’s easier to buy a gun than get treatment for mental conditions that lead to violence. The massive elephant in the room of course is the National Rifle Association (NRA) that is always out in front with its 4.3 million member lobby defending their firearms rights. How long will it be before their dogma resurfaces that the way Americans should protect themselves is to be armed? Then there are pro-gun activists who are pushing for guns in schools. Twenty-five colleges and universities in Colorado, Virginia, Utah and Michigan allow the carrying of firearms on their campuses and Texas allows teachers to carry concealed weapons in
schools. They even allow guns as a PTA raffle prize. Go figure! But some Americans are taking a step back. A survey by ABC News/Washington Post released last week showed that 44 per cent of people contacted strongly support stricter gun laws compared to 32 per cent opposed, the first time in five years when more people favour gun control measures. And for the first time since 2000 less than 50 per cent support the notion that the way to reduce gun violence is to keep the existing laws. Compared to the U.S., Canada has a good balance between firearm ownership and controlled measures. Some 1.85 million Canadians are licensed gun owners for a variety of reasons including protecting livestock, hunting, or competitive target shooting. They have all acquired their firearms in a three-step process that

While things can go wrong (think Ecole Polytechnique (1989) and Concordia University (1992) both in Montreal), our firearms incidences pale compared to U.S. statistics. According to the FBI, in 2011 there were 8,583 firearm murders representing 68 per cent of all murders. As Americans watch those little children take their final ride, hand-wringing and consolatory words aren’t enough. Their collective conscience must burn. As President Obama said, “The fact that this problem is complex can no longer be an excuse for doing nothing.” Well said.

Under the old system, people suffering from chronic and terminal illness could grow their own. Under the new system many won’t have legal access because they won’t be able to afford it. Will the grow-op problem be solved? No. People who will break the law will not be deterred by the existence of
commercial medical marijuana operations. The medical marijuana question is largely irrelevant to them. I applaud efforts to get grow-ops out of our neighbourhoods. What we have with this move is simply a profitable business opportunity for a few, to the detriment of many of society’s most vulnerable, under the guise of fighting crime.

I think Chilliwack is a great town, don’t get me wrong. But there is a pretty serious problem I’d like to address. Under-aged drinking and the use of drugs in Chilliwack has become almost as much as a hobby for some Chilliwack teens. It’s very dangerous and extremely unhealthy at any age, especially a young adult. I think some things would be better and more safe for the teens of Chilliwack

Passion for steam brings tractor restoration Jessica Peters The Observer
When Al Crook was in elementary school, he spun his teacher an amazing seafaring tale. He spoke to her about traveling from North America down to Venezuela for the summer. But the story got even richer than that. “I went there on an oil tanker!” he told her, with all the enthusiasm a six-yearold could muster. Naturally, that unbelievable story led the teacher to call Crook’s mother, to discuss how young boys like to tell fibs. So imagine that teacher’s shock to hear the mother say: “Well, he’s telling the truth.” What the teacher may not have known is that Crook’s father was a sailor, as was his father’s father, and an uncle, too. So it comes as no surprise that Crook’s own life led him to the sea. Crook is now a marine engineer by trade — has been for 34 years. “My father took me to sea when I was five years old,” he says, “and that was it.” He has spent most of his life aboard tankers and ocean liners, working on their steam engines. It’s a career that takes him all over the world, and back again. But when he gets home, he doesn’t hang up his tools and rest. He loves steam engines too much to leave them alone. “I just love it to death,” he says. “It’s good old fashioned engineering.” But his favourite steam

engine is his 1928 Wallis and Steevens, which he’s been operating since 2001. He acquired it through a partnership with the Atchelitz Threshermen’s Association in Chilliwack. “It was languishing in the back,” he says. “Nobody was restoring it … so I took the bull by the horns and they said by all means.” There were some bumps along the road to outright owning the engine, and it’s quite a process to keep it legally insured, he said. But keeping it operating and sharing it with the world is all worth it to Crook. Just as it’s no surprise the boy who went to sea
at five years old became a marine engineer, it’s equally assumable a man who collects antique steam engines is interested in history. Crook lives for it. He scours the internet for all bits of history related to steam engines, from his home in Hope. And when he’s done that, he heads overseas to where the story of his engine began — Basingstoke, England. It’s listed as number 7985 in the Wallis and Steevens registry. Crook knows this because he has his own copy. He also has copies of the original mechanical drawings for the engine, which he obtained from the
Museum of English Rural Life, in Reading, England. It was purchased for the City of Vancouver, through Engineering Supplies Limited, located at 1114 Hamilton St. in Vancouver, in 1928 at a price of $5,146. The engine went into service on March 7, 1929. It would have been busy paving roads at a time when Vancouver was growing quickly in size, and many of the city’s landmark buildings began construction at this time. The steam engine was used up until 1959, when the City of Vancouver disposed of it. Crook has a folder almost a foot thick of papers relat-
ing to his engine, but not all of them are historical. To keep it running for exhibition use, he has to keep it insured. And that means everything from physical inspection by a boiler inspector, keeping a meticulous paper trail and even taking detailed ultrasounds, charting the large machine square inch by square inch. “When I first got it certified, I had to do a complete ultrasound of the boiler and shell to determine the thickness of the materials so it would be safe,” he says. “It passed with flying colours.” Keeping it operating also means replacing parts as they’re needed, and
you can’t just run to the local autobody shop for an 85-year-old machine. “I couldn’t buy these things even if I wanted to,” Crook says. “They all have to be handmade.” He’s not aware of any other steam engine that is licensed and insured to run on the roads, although there are a few other steam engines across the province. But they are few and far between he said, as rare as the people who know how to fix them and operate them. “Here in the province of B.C., there are about 20 of us,” he says. “We’re quite rare.” He wishes that Canada would cherish the history of steam engines in the same manner that they do in the United Kingdom, where museums and historicallyminded events abound. If Canada would promote its history more, he feels it would be a benefit to tourism. “I go (to the U.K.) pretty much every year, for the last 10 years,” he says, staying anywhere from three to five weeks each time. “ And I drop money at every one of them (events), every time I go.” The Great Dorset Steam Fair is one of the biggest outdoor events in the world, stretching across an astounding 600 acres, for five days. He would like to be able to show his engine locally more, but there aren’t many chances to do so. Chilliwack secondary says hello and goodbye Jennifer Feinberg The Progress
The call is out to all former Chilliwack secondary grads from 1950 to 2012. They’re invited to Hello, Goodbye, a mass CSS reunion being organized for March 1-2, 2013 in venues around Chilliwack. “Our goal with this event is simple: To have thousands of former students, staff and faculty come back home for a twoday party,” event coorganizer Trevor McDonald. The old CSS building will be closing its doors next year and will be torn down to make way for the new school building “This is our last kick

history with everyone he met. “Everybody loves to talk about it with you, and that’s probably the biggest joy you get out of something like this,” he says. “It’s that interaction with people, and the people in Agassiz were so thrilled that I wanted to bring it to the parade.” He didn’t do it alone. He’s had a lot of support from Ray Zer vini at Canyon Cable in Hope, along with Richard Zervini. The steam engine was transported to Agassiz by Emil Anderson Maintenance, and kept at the Schwichtenberg farm before the parade. He also gave thanks to the fair board, for including him in the festivities, and he hopes to return to future events. “That’s what makes it all worthwhile, people like the councillor’s (Holger Schwichtenberg) family who let me store it there,” he says. “It just makes you feel good inside.”

Breast milk donors needed in Fraser Health region
Donating breast milk can save a baby’s life, and the Fraser Health Authority is appealing to breast-feeding women with surplus milk to donate it to the breast milk depot at the Chilliwack Public Health
Unit. “It’s the ultimate Christmas gift,” Sidney Harper, lead nurse of the FHA’s Baby Friendly Initiative program, said Wednesday. There are some 17,000 babies born in the Fraser
Health region every year, she said, and sometimes mothers can’t produce enough breast milk, or for medical reasons some infants may need donated breast milk. “Rather than offer an artificial formula, we’d
rather give them pasteurized donor milk,” Harper said. The challenge is keeping BC Women’s bank well-supplied. “The more donors we can get in our community,” Harper said, “the
greater our chances of getting pasteurized milk back to our hospital.” Breast milk contains antibodies that fight infection, and growth hormones which help babies grow and develop. The World Health
Organization’s Baby Friendly Initiative aims to encourage the practice of breast feeding. Harper said many women want to breast feed, but may not get the societal support they need or find they

are unable to produce enough of their own breast milk. Fraser Health officials wanted to help those women and their babies, so decided to set up join the Baby Friendly Initiative and set up breast milk donor “depots” across the region. “Artificial formula is never as good as breast milk,” Harper said, because it is naturally designed to nourish human babies without upsetting their delicate digestive and immune systems. Donors are prescreened and the donated breast milk is pasteurized and given to babies on a doctor’s prescription, with priority going to the neediest. To donate, or for more info call 604-875-2282. Tourney time for peewees
Hundreds of peewee hockey players hit the ice at local rinks this week as Chilliwack Minor Hockey’s Peewee Jamboree returns for its 54th year. JENNA HAUCK/ FILE PHOTO
Months of planning are out of the way, and now its time to play some hockey. Chilliwack Minor Hockey’s 54th Peewee Jamboree tournament gets started Boxing Day, with a full slate of games at local rinks (see schedule below). Eight Chilliwack teams are in the mix. Visitors include squads from as far away as Seattle and Portland. Organizers have worked hard to give this once proud tournament a new lease on life. The Jamboree has fallen on lean times in recent years. Once the crown jewel of Christmas-time tournaments, Chilliwack’s event has become one of many, with little to distinguish it.

This year’s tournament has new wrinkles that may help. A skills competition will be held in three divisions - bronze, silver and gold/platinum. Three skaters from each team will compete to see who has the hardest shot and who is the fastest skater. One skater from each of the three divisions will receive a new pair of skates. One shooter from each of the three divisions will receive a new composite stick. Those are courtesy of Cheam Sports. The Chilliwack Chiefs will be helping out at the skills competition. Organizers have also hauled some old trophies out of storage. Several division championship trophies have been refurbished and renamed. In addition, four privately donated trophies are back in the mix. The Ron Vermeer Memorial trophy was last awarded in 2008, given out in memory of longtime official Ron Vermeer. Purchased in 1987 by Chilliwack’s Old Timer Hockey League, it will now be awarded to the most sportsmanlike team in the bronze division. The Robb Tallas award was last presented in 2008 to the most valuable goaltender. Tallas, a Chilliwack kid who tended goal in the NHL with Chicago and Boston, donated the trophy because of his fond memories of the Jamboree. It will awarded to the top netminder in the platinum division. The Stanley Dickson Memorial trophy will go to the most inspirational player. The Harry Whitlam Memorial trophy will go to the bronze division player who best combines sportsmanship, gentlemanly conduct and a high standard of playing. The Canadian Junior Hockey League ran the numbers this week and found 1,950 junior A graduates continuing their careers at Canadian and U-S colleges and universities. Five hundred and 78 players have gone on to NCAA division one hockey, forming 37 per cent of the total talent pool. Five hundred and 94 players are suiting up for NCAA division three hockey teams, forming 27 per cent of the talent pool. Canadian programs have absorbed 780 CJHL grads, forming 61 per cent of their total talent pool. “There is no denying how successful the CJHL and its 10 Junior A leagues have been at paving the way to college hockey careers in Canada and the United States,” said CJHL president Kirk Lamb. “Junior A’s role is to
provide premier development and maximum exposure so that our student-athletes can further their hockey and academic careers. Clearly we are doing that.” Each season, hundreds of CJHL players and alumni commit to universities and colleges on both sides of the Canada-US border. So far this season, the BCHL’s CHilliwack Chiefs have seen several players secure spots at the next level. Trevor Hills was the latest, committing to St. Lawrence University. A week prior, Luke Esposito officially committed to Harvard. Goaltender Mitch Gillam will be off to Cornell next year, and defenceman David Thompson is going to Penn State. For ward Austin Plevy has committed to Merrimack. “The CJHL has
perennially been loaded with blue-chip NCAA prospects,” said Mark Dennehy, head coach at Merrimack. “The coaches understand how to develop these players and are knowledgeable about the recruiting process.” Devin Shore, who played for the Whitby Fur y (OJHL), was the highest drafted CJHL player in the 2012 National Hockey League entry draft. Shore committed to the NCAA’s University of Maine Black Bears of Hockey East. “Deciding to play college hockey is the best decision I’ve ever made,” he said. “Practices are like games, and games are like playoff games. The opportunity to represent your school and play in front of passionate fans is awesome. It’s a great place to get better and have a ton of fun doing it.”
Penticton Vees (BCHL) alumnus Joey Laleggia is thriving in the NCAA at the University of Denver. “College hockey was a smart choice for me because it gives me a couple more years to develop,” he said. “It’s an awesome lifestyle. It really makes you take charge of your life. You have to balance being the best hockey player you can be along with studies.” Newmarket (OJHL) alumnus, Dan Ellis of the Anaheim Ducks, is grateful for his CJHL experience. “Playing in Newmarket gave me the opportunity to compete at one of the highest junior hockey levels,” he said. “The CJHL not only provided me exposure to NCAA, CHL and NHL, but prepared me to play at those levels.” Get CJHL info online at cjhlhockey.com

FISHER Margaret It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Margaret Fisher, our beloved mother, grandFISHER mother, greatgrandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Margaret passed away surrounded by her family, December 17, 2012 in Abbotsford, BC. Margaret was born on July 14, 1936 in Glasgow, Scotland. She immigrated with her family to Canada in the early 1970’s when her family moved to Canmore, Alberta. Cherished wife of Robert Fisher, Margaret will always be lovingly remembered by her 6 children, Derek (Tara), Fiona, Mark (Sandra), Colin (Nicole), Jean (Brian), Russell; 2 brothers, John and Ian; 2 sisters, Mary and Hannah; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters; and many other family and friends. Margaret was predeceased by her grandson, Grayson; her sister, Nancy; and her brother, Bill. Mom will be forever remembered for her love and dedication towards her family, for her love of life and whirlwind spirit. No formal funeral service will be held at this time. A
