PRINCE RUPERT -With International Credit Union Day quickly approaching, the Northern Savings Board of Directors handed out $15,000 in cheques at Prince Rupert’s Northern Savings Credit Union branch to a number of local non-profit projects and events on Oct. 15. CEO Ken Doleman and Northern Savings board members attended the short ceremony, as well as members of groups organizing projects and events. “Northern Savings Credit Union believes it is important to contribute to the growth and well being of our diverse communities. School District 52 received the highest amount of funding, $5,250, to provide instruments for the grade 5 band pilot project. The North Coast Health Improvement Society received $2,500 for a new bone mass density scanner. The Prince Rupert Self Advocacy Group accepted a cheque for $2,000 to be put towards the 14th annual Self Advocacy Conference, which is taking place this week. Members of AFFNO could not attend the short cheque handing out ceremony, however the group will receive $1,500 for their book

Three groups were given $1,000; the Prince Rupert and District Chamber of Commerce for their Raising Stars Mentoring Program, the Dancers on Broadway for their travel to New York, and the Prince Rupert Community Halloween Fest Society for their annual Children’s Halloween Festival. Finally, the Fellowship Baptist Preschool received $750 for Happy Healthy Children Gym Equipment. The Northern Savings Board of Directors set aside $60,000 to support initiatives to improve quality of life for people living in the communities they serve.
