ENGEL Garry

January 12, 1949 – August 2, 2012 Garry passed away Aug 2, 2012 at Cascade Hospice surrounded by his family. He was born on January 12, 1949 in Chilliwack, British Columbia. He joined the Canadian Air Force in 1969 and began his travels. He retired from the Canadian Air Force in 1986 and resided in Chilliwack until his passing. Garry is predeceased by his father and mother. He is survived by his sisters Vicky (Bob) Mathieu and Marilyn (Barrie) Denham and numerous nieces and nephews. No service at Garry’s request.

April 18, 1943 August 1, 2012 Brian passed away peacefully on August 1, 2012 at Vancouver General Hospital, s u r r o u n d e d NOKLEBY by his family. Brian was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He is survived by his loving wife Joanne, sons Stan(Lavonne), Scott (Tessa), daughters Andrea, Katrina(Trevor), step-daughters Meagan, Kim (Jack), Amy (Dale), Sara (Robb). Grandchildren Jamie, Aaron, Hughie, Cecelia, Esteban, Mateo, Chantal, Natasha, Frances, Riley, Janek, Kaman and Roenik. He is also survived by his brother Cliff (Kathy), nephew Cliff and niece Kalea, as well as his step-mom Lee Nokleby, mother-in-law Violet Pinning, Heather Grant (mother of his children) and other cherished family including his Aunts Marcella and Lois. Brian was born in Hardisty Alberta and as a young boy moved to Smithers, B.C. His post secondary education took him to the University of Victoria where he received a degree in Education. Later he received a Masters of Education from the University of Washington. Brian loved being an educator and retired after 35 years from the Abbotsford School District in 2001. His life was of service. He was a former Rotarian, minor hockey coach, he served on Boards at Cultus Lake Memorial Church, Sunshine Valley Executive and was elected Cultus Lake Commissioner from 2008 - 2011 where he served as Chairman. Brian had many hobbies but fishing was his passion. Two of his favorite destinations were Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where he and Joanne vacationed each winter, as well as their cabin “in the woods by the river” at Sunshine Valley, Hope. Brian also enjoyed cooking and entertaining. He loved life and was a very generous person. Even in death his generosity continued. Brian donated his eyes and eight recipients will benefit from them, two of which will receive the gift of sight. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Brian’s honor to either the Salvation Army Church, 46420 Brooks Avenue, Chilliwack, B.C. V2P 1C5 or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, August 8th at 1 pm at Central Community Church, 46100 Chilliwack Central Road, Chilliwack, B.C. (next to ICBC) with a tea to follow at 3 pm at the Evergreen Hall, 9291 Corbould Street, Chilliwack, B.C.

August 23, 1916 August 4, 2012 It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Jessie. She is lovingly remembered by her 3 children, Jim, Louise and Verne; 9 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren. Jessie was born in Chilliwack, the third of four children born to George and Maude Goodell. Survived by her oldest sister, May M. Allen and predeceased by her husband Frank, sister Florence Nilsen and brother Elmer Goodell. The family would like to thank all the caregivers at the Ridgewood Lodge in Princeton for their exemplary care during her three year stay. A celebration of life will be held at the I00F Hall located at 46008 Reece Avenue in Chilliwack on August 17th at 1:00pm

Russell Joseph James Armstrong passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at Cascade ARMSTRONG Hospice with Kathy, Barb, Ed, his brother George and his sister Ruth by his side. He was born June 8, 1939 in Cornwallis, Manitoba. Russell is survived by his two daughters, Kathy (Ed), Barb and his special two boys, his grandsons, Wes (Katie), Chris (Stacey), his family; brother George (Rhinda), Sisters Joyce (Del), Ruth (Dennis) and Dawn (Ray). He was predeceased by his wife Jean, his mother Alice, his father Joseph, and his sonin-law Curt and sister-in-law Lorraine. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 11th at First Ave. Christian Assembly at 1:30 pm. Tea to follow. Donations in Russell’s name can be made to the Chilliwack Hospice Society.
