Welcome back to Saanich Summer Sunfest! Come celebrate all Sunfest has to offer. The excitement begins Sunday, July 1st with the 14th Annual Gorge Canada Day Picnic. The picnic runs 8:30 am to 4:00 pm along the Gorge Waterway. Returning to the picnic will be the pancake breakfast, family parade, entertainment, kid’s activities, canoe rides, buskers, Strawberry Tea, market and more.

Gorge on Art is back June 23rd 11:00 am to 4:00 pm along the Gorge Waterway. Admission to the show is free and artwork will be available for purchase and viewing. Included at the event will be live musical entertainment, as well as food and refreshments for purchase. For 46 years, Strawberry Festival has been a summer highlight for many. This year it runs 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at Beaver Lake Park on Sunday, July 8th. Don’t miss the pony rides, arts & crafts, interactive sports and games, as well as; information displays, live entertainment, pie eating contest, model boat display and much, much more. Don’t forget to indulge in a little summer sweetness with the traditional serving of strawberries and ice cream for the unbeatable price of $0.50.

Quickly becoming a “MUST” for Sunfest participants is one of the newest additions to Sunfest - the Cadboro Bay Festival. Running Sunday, August 12th 11:00 am to 3:00 pm this festival features: giant sand sculptures; hands on activities; arts and crafts; bouncy castles; pirate school and treasure hunt; information displays; together with food and fun for the entire family.

Another summer favourite is the Music in the Park series featuring a variety of evening concerts played at local parks. The concerts run Tuesdays in July and August from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. With a range of musical styles sure to suit all ages, settle in, bring your picnic dinner, or purchase available food and enjoy the shows. All parks have a children’s playground and some events include other children’s activities as well as local information, displays and produce. Other Sunfest events include: Gordon Head Recreation Centre/ Lambrick Park Skate Jam, July 21st: Quadra Cedar Hill Association’s Fun in the Park; Fun Day in the Park fundraiser for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation; The Arts and Music in the Gardens; Walk with Volkssport and many more great events! Use these amazing opportunities to collect your family, friends and neighbours and celebrate your community. The sun makes up around 99.86% of the total Solar System’s mass

Gorge on Art, a free community event, features over 45 invited professional and emerging artists displaying their work along the scenic Gorge Waterway. Visitors have an opportunity to see paintings, prints, photographs, ceramics, watercolours, pastels, carvings and textiles, and to meet and discuss the artists’ work. Sunday, July 8 Strawberry Festival

The annual Saanich Strawberry Festival celebrates 46 successful years of community involvement and support. The event originated as a celebration of the agricultural roots of Saanich and has blossomed into a grand festival for all ages. Activities will include a wide variety of information displays, face painting, pony rides, arts & craft stations, a pie eating contest, bouncy castles and much more. Bring a blanket and enjoy a day at the beach while a variety of performers entertain on the main stage. The afternoon would not be complete without the traditional serving of strawberries and ice cream at 2:00 pm for only 50 cents. Event information: 250 475-5558. Saturday, July 28 Fun Day in the Park for the CCFC

Join us for our fourth annual Fun Day in the Park fundraiser with all proceeds going towards the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada 16 research and education of these diseases. Come to Gyro Park at Cadboro Bay Beach and enjoy some amazing free live entertainment. Joining us for our 3rd year is the Paul Wainwright Band. New to us this year is The Street, Fir Cone, and guitarist Sig Reuter. The kids will love this year’s Jump Up inflatables. There is even one for adult kids! Enjoy our huge silent auction, bake sale, ice cream, hamburger and hot dog sales, raffles, face paint, dunk tank, and the forever remembered Noodle Box tent game. Sunday, August 19 Motorcar Gathering

The Queen Alexandria Centre hosts the tenth annual Motorcar Gathering (formerly the European & Classic Car Picnic) to raise funds for children and youth in need. Over 200 cars and 2000 spectators are expected to take part in this car show and family festival! There is a $20 entry fee for owners wishing to display their car and spectators entered by donation. There will be lots to do and see, including: Face painting & tattoos, Magic Shows, Inflatable Bouncy Castle, Imagination Craft Station, Tom Thumb Safety Village Pedal Cars, and Radio Controlled Car Racing.
