Wrangle some real fun at the best in the west! This year’s Rodeo features world champions and Canadian champions competing against some fierce young up-andcomers in four main events: Bareback, Bull Riding, Ladies Barrel Racing and Saddle Bronc. The invitational format, which has earned the Cloverdale Rodeo international acclaim, continues to draw top names and provides consistently challenging bucking stock. Top pro rodeo contestants in each of the four events will compete for $300,000 in cash prizes - and more importantly – the championship title.

These grillmasters will use their secret sauces and family recipes to barbeque everything from pork and brisket to chicken and ribs. There is also the first-ever World Freestyle Round-Up powered by ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK, a skateboarding competition with the world’s top freestyle skateboarders from five different continents.

Another daring group, the Pacific Northwest Ponies will thrill crowds on Friday Night with their Mini Chuck Wagon & Chariot Races. If you miss them Friday night, you can still catch these Crazy Ponies as part of

Norm Rutherford of National Bank shares his story. I have a mild but chronic form of heart failure. I’ve had it for twenty years. At first, it was manageable. But now I find myself further up the treatment scale. I have migrated to the world of cardio conversion—getting some of “BC Hydro” as they say- a jolt of 50 or 100 joules usually does it. With each episode, I head into care, to the Emergency Department at Peace Arch Hospital. It’s been five times now for me. Each time, there is this sense of dread. What if this doesn’t work? What’s next? Will I wake up? Each time, I think, Not again. Here I am, hooked up and it is going to happen fast. I have to get to the kids. The cell is pre dialed and one by one, I quickly reach out. I just want to hear their voice and talk to them just one more time…to tell them where I am and what I am up to… how much I love them, how extraordinary they are and how grateful I am to be their dad. Sometimes I reach them… and sometimes it is just a voice mail. The anesthesiologist offers a suitable dose of what they call “milk of amnesia”—you don’t want to be awake for this. As I

am waiting for this to kick in, I offer my gratitude to my Lord and relax into His care, regardless of the outcome. This is a team effort. I know that. The best that the hospital can offer is gathered around – the nurses, the emergency physicians and someone else nearby with a ventilator, just in case something goes wrong.
