with Don Daniels email: dond@campbellrivermirror.com Some pretty good saltwater fishing can be had in the weeks to come; anglers getting out are having some success. The Hump, Lighthouse and Shelter Point are key destinations this time of year. Small Tomic plugs florescent green are getting some fish, fishing in Steelhead Hen - Oyster River water somewhere in 150 feet of water. Fishermen have been fishing the Hump for Halibut jigging with smaller Point Wilson Darts. Kitty Coleman Hump has been a good spot trolling for Salmon at close to 200 feet of water. The tackle shops have reported that glow lures and plugs are working at the moment. On Saturday April 14th I attended the Ocean Pacific Marine and Boat Show in Campbell River. Rick Janzen informed me that the Oyster River will get a large stocking of sea run cutthroat in the next week or so. Great fish on the fly in the lower river and the estuary. Some Steelhead are available if you can hit it just right. Dan Bauer is President of the Accessible Wilderness Society, and is always searching the area for places a person with a physical cha challenge can go that provide a rela relatively barrier free opportunities. He has explored the area around Ro Roberts Lake and drove further dow down the Elk Main logging road to che check out Stella Lake. The rough roa road into the lake was a challenge r Baue Dan bu but in the end was well worth the ty Socie ss erne Accessible Wild journey. Blair McLean recently fished Spider Lake and the trout were taking black caddis flies. This lake is busy on weekends with anywhere from 10 to 15 boats trolling around hunting down the small trout. Spider Lake is shallow and when the bite is on you can have a ball. Bass fishing has been shut down. Last week I asked what was the unidentified object in a tackle box; I had a number of replies. Don Norwood sent me a note, the unknown item in the Ideal Tackle box are bobber stops that you can slide on your line. I was fishing a local trout lake just north of Campbell River when an Eagle swept down and caught a nice trout and headed back to the tree top with his catch. Another Eagle that lives close to Maple Lake is often seen swooping down and stealing ones fish. The weather is getting warmer and the trout in local lakes are getting active. If your not having any luck using lures or small spoons, try using a number 12 black or olive beadhead Woolly worm.
